Could be good.. He put. Together on of the best run blocking systems this game has. Ever seen.. Shannahan owes a lot of his success because of how well Gary ran that offense... Thoughts?
I have many posts over the past few years declaring that it's only a matter of time before Matt Shaub gets exposed..dude was exposed.l Kubiac runs a heavy bootleg scheme...
I don't think he has a bad rep for developing the Qb position..I think he's considered pretty good..and really, that's all a Qb can ask for...I think it was a combination, Kubiak isn't the best motivator, and shaub is very overrated.
I think he got shaub to play at a higher level.. Let's not forget he was the qb whisper to steve young when Steve got his ring...
I think we all seen how well mobile qb's hold up, unless their name is cam or Ben, big guys... I guess it depends on the system, bridgwater seems more like a pocket passer and will stay healthy while Johnny plays a little too reckless and could be injury prone
...and will take Teddy Bridgewater, not Johnny Manziel. I don't know what to think of folks that think Manziel is a first round pick, much less a top of the draft guy.
If his style doesn't match the offensive style of Philbin, not sure it's a good idea. seems almost opposite: run-heavy vs pass-heavy.
If he brings in Andre Johnson for a Miami reunion via trade with him... hell yes... Andre, Mike, Hartline, Gibson... There's no way Tannehill can fail, not even John Beck can fail with all those weapons.
I'm a big fan of that offensive system, and I'd be thrilled to see Kubiak as the Dolphins OC. He's pretty well the singular blue chip offensive coordinator in the NFL, I don't think anyone really matches his combination of longevity and results. I don't know why anyone thinks Mike Sherman is going anywhere unless Philbin is fired, though.
I think you would have to find out what Gary's ideas are on spreading the field and using the passing game to set up the running game, because I think Joe Philbin clearly wants an offense that is pass first and believes you have to be a great passing team to win.
Don't bank on it. Early in the year, there was some talk that Joe Philbin didn't see eye to eye with Mike on his play calling. Apparently, Mike wanted to be more balanced, and Joe's response was that balance is nice, but you need to score points. Now, I'm hearing some buzz that Joe doesn't have a problem with the way the team is starting, but he may start stepping in on some of the play calls in the second half. I have speculated that Mike may end up beign reassigned as offensive line coach/assistant head coach. Mike Sherman and Gary Kubiak are also very tight. Sherman was Kubiak's offensive coordinator for a short while in Houston, and they were together at Texas A&M back in the late '80s/early '90s. Another possibility I wouldn't rule out is an organizational structure where Joe Philbin becomes the central power in the football operations, and Mike Sherman, with his experience as a GM in the past, could very well be the guy that Joe tabs as Jeff's replacement.
I've noticed lately that when Sherman has more balance regardless of the production in the run game, Philbin compliments him in a way that suggests that it was his idea..no idea if that's true, just the vibe I get..
I think a big obstacle is Philbin's opinion on the bootleg game. He seemed very much down on it when he was asked about rolling Tannehill out more, and didn't see much to care for the play action half-field read game.
Joe wants the offense to be similar to the one run in Green Bay....i.e...west coast principles as far as timing goes, but more vertical in the passing game with spread the field elements. I linked an article not too long ago that talked about how the Green Bay offense was somewhat of a hybrid of the traditional west coast offense and the old Buffalo Bills K Gun offense. Coming from the success that they had in Green Bay with this offense, I think you can see why Joe believes in it. I guess the problem with it is that it is so quarterback centric that if the quarterback is lousy, as we are seeing with Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien in Green Bay, the offense doesn't go. Now, as far as our play calling goes, I don't think we are anywhere close to what they do in Green Bay. Green Bay doesn't do as much out breaking stuff, and the slot guy is typically the main receiving threat on the team. Right now, we do not have the ability to move our receivers around much either. None of them are extremely versatile. We do not have the ideal slot guy for this system either.
I don't think this is an obstacle because I do not think you should have a passing game that is predicated on play-action rollouts with half field reads. I think especially for a young, developing QB, this type of system can completely stunt his development as a pocket passer. I don't know how a QB goes from looking at the field from one advantageous point of view for years and then suddenly be comfortable staring down the barrel from the pocket and making whole field reads.
Kubiak is a massive yes, but we are tied to Tanny and I do feel that a change at OC may knock him back in his progression.. Dislike the calls Sherman coordinates but Tanny is very comfortable and it shows.. Learning a new system may not be the best idea for this kid and therefore I know many will hate but we're also tied with Sherman! Big fan of Tanny's and that's the only reason I'd like to keep what we have.
Pretty much my feelings exactly. I would love this move. Unfortunately, I can't see Philbin letting Sherman go.
Sadly, that is probably true, unless Sherman himself decides to retire on his own terms. It is an unusual situation. Sherman taught Philbin in high school and gave him his first NFL job, but now Philbin is Sherman's boss. Not aware of that ever happening in the NFL before.
You and I were high on Wilson in the 2011 draft, but I don't see Manziel as being in the same class as Wilson at the next level. I could see the Texans taking Manziel if he is still on the board in the second round and they don't select a QB with the first overall pick. Yet I think it is more likely they will draft a QB with this pick and I think that QB will be,Teddy Bridgewater and not Manziel.
Does anyone else think that Kubiak might just take a year off? Dude just had a stroke and he's getting paid either way. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
It would make sense for him because he'd be working for free. Besides he may not want to go back and be a coordinator and will only be interested in HC jobs.
I have no desire seeing Joe Philbin being given any more power in the organization. He is a head coach who is still learning on the job. He has a sub 500 record through his first 28 games as an NFL head coach and he needs to prove he is a quality HC before he should be given the type of power and authority only the best coaches in the NFL have been given. He certainly shouldn't be involved in the hiring of the next GM. Especially when one of the responsibilities of this GM will be to determine if Philbin should remain the HC of this team. If the Dolphins win 9 or 10 games this year, Philbin certainly would deserve to stay. On the other hand, if the Dolphins finish the season 7-9 or 8-8, Philbin would probably be lucky if he keeps his job once the new GM is hired. If the Dolphins win 9 or 10 games, Philbin should just concentrate on becoming the best HC he can be. Perhaps down the road after the Dolphins have won a Super Bowl or two with Philbin as the HC, we can revisit him becoming the, "central power in the football operations". Right now though, I would just like to see him lead this team to one winning season.
I gotta go with most here, I'll take Kubiak as OC (definetly not HC) any day of the week. He's not a great motivator and truthfully neither is Philbin, but his system works for offense. He gets things out of mediocre backs that you'd never expect and he cultivates QBs in his system. He got a lot from a good, but not great QB in Schaub... So, count me in if he's interested in coming here. But I doubt that Philbin will let his boy Sherman go anytime soon.....
Regarding Philbin, it would be so Dolphins to hand him the keys to the kingdom, right? A guy in his first head coaching job at any level with a sub-.500 record (as of now). But he's a straight-arrow guy and his GM was bad so of course this would be the way to go. And they'd better not install Sherman as the GM. I don't know about you guys, but I've had my fill of the mediocre buddy system. This is the franchise that gave Dave Wannstedt 'Bill Belichick' powers. And that was under better owner. I put nothing past Stephen Ross. He terrifies me.
