Place your crosshair on the enemy or objective and press Q.

Q is the magic button in Battlefield. It is your friend, and your team's friend. Just note that there is such a thing as spotting fatigue, whereby your player will not spot if you've been mashing the button constantly for a while.

Hardcore is a filter type in the server browser.

lol I would't even know where to begin with PC gaming. Last game I played on my computer was Command and Conquer and Roller Coaster Tycoon lol. How does it work, do you use a seperate controller or is it just the keyboard and mouse?

You can use a keyboard and mouse (preferred) or an Xbox controller plugged in via USB.

For native PC games you'll want to use the keyboard and mouse. For console ports or console-like games, the controller is better. Controller is better for console emulators as well.

Coming from a COD guy who has bought everyone and had never played Battlefield this game is like a more sophisticated Call of Duty. So much more in depth of a military game. I have only had it a week and I think it is so much better than COD. I just need to convince my boys so I can take full advantage of this whole squad play. Once I figure out the little things I'm sure it will get even better. So does this game not come out every year like COD but just get updates?

About every 2 years. It's nice that more and more people are realizing what a sham COD is and how bad it is. Played quite a bit of Ghosts that I borrowed from a friend, COD has just gotten to a point where it's completely unplayable for me. I too wish I could convince more of the COD fanboy friends of mine to make the switch.

I think a lot of people are coming to that realization. Spotting is important as it highlights enemies for your entire team. Not sure what the button is on console, but I do know they changed it from "select" (BF3) to an easier button on the console controller. Just check your options to see. Also if you are squad leader, put your crosshairs on an objective if playing conquest, and you can give attack and defend orders to your squad by pressing the same button.

Enjoy flying the chopper, plane, tanks, boats, etc. In COD, all you did was press a button to call in your airstrike. In BF, you are the asset, not just a kill counter perk that takes one button to use. :)

Just had a 100,000+ point round. 100% XP boost plus 2 awards (IFV and attack boat) put me over the top. Maxed out the IFV unlocks, ranked up and then went 70% of the way to the next rank, and almost maxed out the attack boat unlocks.

    Whee.

    LOL. Damn. Nice round.

I almost have the attack boat fully unlocked too. Killed it in one round on Paracel Storm. I want the TV missiles, almost there.

New gadgets and weapons from China Rising DLC.

Cant say I like the gadgets. I hate mortars to begin with, and now they are guidable (UCAV?)? And that SUAV is going to be the next MAV killing machine. Also, one rocket and or tank shell can't take down a chopper, but these little gadgets can? I can see someone camping next to an ammo box hidden away on the map with these SUAVs and UCAVs just exploiting this shhhh like panzies. Not a fan.

Just picked this up on the ps4, brings back some good memories with the BF series. I hope they get the kinks worked out with the 64 man servers on the ps4 though. The 32 is fine enough for now but the real draw to me was some frantic 32 vs 32 mayhem.

Operation Métro and Caspian Border, along with Operation Firestorm and Gulf of Oman, are coming back in the DLC Second Assault. It's due out after China Rising (Dec 2 for China Rising).

I don't understand why Métro is coming back. Operation Locker is already the same freaking thing, a choke point grenade fest.

I needed some Javelin kills for an assignment and played some 24/7 Firestorm servers. I learnt it pretty well and began to like it more and more. I only concerned myself with the inside flags, A to C, and kept cruising back and forth from one to the next. I even learned all spawn points, which, cheap as it is, helped me kick a$$ on the map.

I just cruised A to C like a shark. I'd be lying if I told you I didn't stop in "certain" areas for some time, but it is not like i consciously made an effort to spawn camp unless it was C by the Russian spawn and that is all they held. Nothing you can really do at that point.

With great power (memorizing spawns) comes great responsibility. Not all of us are superheros. And, I can say that is the only map I memorized because they made it so easy. And again, I will defend my honor by saying I didn't do it all the time, or at length. It is nice to know where people enemies are coming from though.

They need to fix the browse server on ps4 I hate normal, I'm a die hard hard core player.. I hate putting half a clip in someone they turn around and get a lucky head shot.. That my only gripe.. Other than this I love this game.. I have cod as a side kick to battlefield, jes to go kill like 50 ppl when I'm getting frustrated with battlefield.. But cod is suck a cartoony arcadish game and btw black ops 2 was way better than ghost IMO.. I really jes hate that game since battlefield 3.. This is war, cod is more like a drug cartel shoot out on some kingpins yacht..

I just picked this up Friday night for 25 bucks. It's my first foray into Battlefield aside from a very brief stint with Battlefield 3 Beta. Can someone give me some tips on this game to ease the transition? I'm super annoyed there isn't an easy way to mute people. I don't understand how or if I can customize layouts. I'm struggling hard adjusting to the more realistic shooting. I can't figure out how the hell all these people are getting into helicopters and jets. Is the campaign any good in these games, or are they as worthless as CoD campaigns?

    Few things man;

When you customize your solider (Assault, Engineer, Support, or Recon) it automatically saves the loadout. Log in the next day, and you have the same gun, same gun attachments (important in BF4), gadgets, etc. There is no customizable load outs like in COD. However, BF saves the gun attachments across all classes and even the next time you use it. EG. If you select the AK-12 engineer carbine and put a Red Dot and Angled Grip on it, if you use the AK-12 as a Recon player, you will still have the Red Dot and Angled Grip on it. If you then unlock the ACW-R carbine and begin using it but realize you don't like it and switch back to the AK-12, it will again have the same attachments, Red Dot and Angled Grip, as last time.

Attachments are very important. Some reduce vertical recoil, others reduce horizontal recoil, but at the cost of automatic fire accuracy. There is a stub grip to compensate for that though. Best attachment combos can be found online. Check out LevelCapGaming on youtube. Great channel for excellent loadouts.

To get into vehicles you have to select the vehicle icon on the deploy screen and you will spawn into it. Otherwise, go next to the vehicle and press the button (not sure on consoles, default E for CPU) to enter. Vehicles also have unlocks that you can apply, different radars, main weapons, secondary weapons, defense mechanisms, etc. Really a lot of customization overall to BF.

Shooting: Some guns are controllable in auto fire. Others aren't but may become more so with specific grips. At range, it is always best to tap the trigger to burst fire. With practice you can get this down and be almost as quick as auto fire, but with an aim realignment with each burst. Med to close range you can typically just hold the fire down.

Press Q to spot enemy infantry and vehicles. It helps. They will show on screen and on the mini map for your entire team. All players are shown on the mini map when they shoot, unless they have a suppressed weapon. Know that too. If you are flanking and shoot, your show up on their maps for a short time.

Also, the green progress bar above the squad names is a progress bar for perks. You gain points for squad objectives. Attacking defending squad leads objective, squad healing, squad repairing, etc. There are several perk trees that you will unlock. One is Shadow, for example and one perk reduces the time you are shown on the mini map. Others give you more ammo, etc.

Bottom line, K/D ratio isn't as important in BF. Objectives are. Focus on team play in BF is emphasized in the way the game is designed, and you will be more effective if you work with your squad. With that said, I am always mindful of my K/D ratio. It can be very frustrating at times, but stick with it and BF will reward you. You will have some experiences that really are like no other.

Here is a beginner vid with other info. Search youtube, there is a lot of help out there including flying tutorials, etc.

The campaign is worse than COD campaigns, but you have to play them to unlock certain weapons for multiplayer. Fortunately, it only takes around 3-4 hours to complete.

You can spawn directly into all vehicles. When you enter "Spawn Mode", you can choose to spawn either on a control point, the faction spawn point, or you can click on any vehicle in bright white (if it's greyed out, you can't); you can also spawn inside of vehicles that are not full, but have a driver already. Just double click on where you want to spawn and it will queue you to a spot.

To get used to the shooting, just go to the test range and practice with multiple weapons. Get used to the bullet drop and how distance effects the bullets. You can also try out all the vehicles as well.

To customize loadouts, click on your profile in Battlelog and click Loadouts. You can switch everything there. Of course, you need to unlock stuff first by earning XP.

The most important thing to do is to press Q to spot enemies and enemy vehicles. This is extremely helpful to both you and your teammates. You can rack up a fair amount of experience just by spotting. And always try to stay with your teammates as well, you are not Rambo. You need to be able to work together with others to take objectives.

It is very important to spot, helps the team immensely. But, it can also help you. If you spot a moving target that is running for cover in trees or bushes, the red triangle above his head will help you aim. Keep that in mind as well. Also, you can shoot and spot simultaneously I believe.

You have to capture the center point on the map. Then enter a military bunker/freight container to enter the bomber. You have one run, and then it needs to recharge. When someone enters the bomber, it activates an audible air raid alarm for the whole map to hear.

I haven't played new maps. Haven't DLed them yet either. Been busy. Maybe Saturday. I already don't like the UCAV. People using it as the killer MAV on roids.

(This guy is 33-0 with it. I can only imagine when a map is full of these things)

Admittedly, BF4 has its problems. Bugs, net code-hit detection, crashes, etc. Here is the official word from EA. Never seen them do this before...

    EA DICE says:

First, we want to thank the fans out there that are playing and supporting us with Battlefield 4. We know we still have a ways to go with fixing the game – it is absolutely our #1 priority. The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game. Since Battlefield 4 China Rising expansion pack was already in the final stages of development by the time issues began withBattlefield 4, we decided to fulfill our promise to deliver it this week, but we're not moving onto future projects or expansions until we sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4. We know many of our players are frustrated, and we feel your pain. We will not stop until this is right.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson apologized for the game's problems.

Someone emailed that to me. No link. Shouldn't be hard to find though.
