Im not a Gm but first of all,i would lure in big ol free agents..the defense is really good but cant do all on his one...i would try to sign a experienced tight end and wr so he developes some knowledge between tanny and the other guys..i would then fire sherman and coyle and try to replace them with Gruden the bengals oc and an agressive defense caller like Ryan, with exotic blitz schemes the qb coach and rb coach gotta go..
Give me Danny Marino as qb coach and the coach who we had from ronnie and ri ky i think his name was sexton or so
So lets see: 1. You would sign a big OL? Who and with what money? 2. Defense isn't really good, good defense stops that last drive. We are average 3. TE isn't a problem, Clay is having a good year and Simms will be better next year. 4. WR- ??????? Don't see it 5. Gruden will not leave the Bengals for the same job on the Dolphins Other than that, I'm with ya!
we have 30m cap room left, the oline needs to be changed,i would draft taylor lewan, and sign two good ol Asamoah and another one...line could look like this then Lewan, asamoah,Pouncey,fa,Mckinnie if he has a full offseason to adjust to rt he will be fine..just saw that saxon was signed by Vikes in 2011 sad he was really good..
We do have a good defense, the problem is depth... Our guys are always running on empty in the 4th qtr.. Can't get off the field, offense can't get any rhythm bam defense back out there = last in the league in 2 half scoring...
5 years 45 million is more realistic, with 25 mil guaranteed. Asamoah is a player with absolutely everything to offer, including the facts that he is a high character guy and extremely intelligent. He is a perfect RG for a zone blocking system. Asamoah will have offers from several teams. He will get absolute top dollar money for a free agent guard. Both Asamoah and LT Jared Veldheer are going to get huge contracts. To think otherwise is very naive. Wooing won't get much done with these two guys. They are young, elite, and have no issues. The Dolphins would have to overpay to get them, just like they did with Wallace. The difference is, Asamoah and Veldheer are actually elite players that would probably earn every penny, whereas Wallace was a fundamentally, BAD!, football player and the stats were there to prove it to even the most inexperienced football fan!! So if Ireland is still GM next year the Dolphins won't acquire any good free agents for two very good reasons: First, he is an idiot! Second, he widely hated and disrespected around the league. If there is a new GM, there is an outside chance of some improvement through free agency, otherwise, purgatory for fins fans continues.
Don't expect another free agency splurge. One big ticket free agent on the oline and the rest will be mid to low level types. They need to acquire 2 offensIve linemen in the draft and hope they can form a solid foundation for the future.
Eh, a part of our problem is the roster gets churned so heavily every offseason often times for odd reasons. I'd like to see Starks and Grimes retained, draft a LT and LG.
I don't agree with the people who feel the defense is "good", it is average at best. We have a couple of good players on D, but as a unit, they come up small in big spots. Not getting off the field on 3rd and long (sometimes 4th and long!) Its a problem.
I think once Tannehill and Wallace get on the same page we will have the best unit out there. Hartline, Matthews, and Gibson are all very good. Obviously we need to upgrade at least three of our current O-Line starters. Defense is pretty damn good but we will lose either Soilai or Starks which is bad news.
One thing about the defense that we must take into account is that Jordan will be a feature player next year and a nearly unblockable one at that. With Wake and a progressing Vernon, we could have a serious pass rush as well as the ability to withstand some injuries at DE. I don't think we can afford Starks all the while bringing in a big ticket o-lineman. I see him leaving but I'm hoping the market is quiet for Soliai. With that in mind, I think we might have to let Patterson go due to his inability to get on the field. I think Carroll is in line for a modest contract. I'm sure we'll get something out of our rookie CBs next year. Grimes will be franchised. Beyond a complete o-line retooling, this team needs a legitimate threat in the backfield. Someone that can obviously run but block and catch effectively as well. We are thin at WR so I'd like to integrate a mid round pick or two at that position. A seam threat TE with height would be nice but maybe Keller will be able to come back. I wouldn't discount him. Now the lovely o-line and the mess that it is. I would bring back McKinnie. I know he doesn't fit the scheme and isn't a great run blocker but he is keeping Tannehill upright for the most part. If we want Asamoah, be prepared to back up the Brinks truck (and I think we will). After that it's heavy in the draft along the o-line. Don't be surprised if we go o-line with our 1st and 3rd picks.
Strongly disagree. We have one of the best groups in the NFL. We have a speedster, a great slot guy, a swiss army knife and a great third down/sideline guy.
We like to go four wide so much and we cannot withstand injuries. Besides developing more scheme specific receivers is essential.
