Boy! Del Rio's conservative nature is clearly coming out with this play calling.

Amazing how an elite Qb can elevate a running backs status.

What I think elite QBs can do is take good players and allow them to perform like great players. The operative word is "good."

I don't know of any QB that can take players who have no business starting in the NFL (Brenner, Garner, Jerry, Clabo, Thomas and possibly Miller) and transition them up to being even competent NFL players.

When will people learn that teams like the Patriots, Saints, Broncos, Seahawks, etc. have good personnel and coaching to go with playmakers who can quickly change the course of a game?

These aren't the inept Dolphins you're watching. They can actually come back from a big deficit because they do more than kick Fail Goals.

It's an interesting point..Brady is doing some amazing things in New England so I think all players have another level that only the great leaders can help them achieve it.

But I think we have to look past some intangible concept of "greatness" and look at the process that this team has in place.

For example today, it's not some intangible lack of greatness on Tannehill's part that makes Wallace stop that slant route instead continuing on and taking it to the house. No it was what it was...Wallace not continuing that slant route and not taking it to the house.

Denver D sucks, coaching sucks, Manning sucks, Elway sucks.. Blew a 24-0 lead and couldn't score even after the Patriots gave them the ball first in OT!! Pathetic!! Fire them all!! Bring back Tebow, he knew how to win!! :tongue2:

    Oops, wrong boards, brb...

    P.S. I hate you Brady..

I have been saying this for years. This year the Pats have at least 5 games they easily should have lost but didn't and we had around the same number of games that we should have won but didn't.

It's kinda funny. I've checked a few Colts boards today and it's the same as here. Time to fire the coach and Luck isn't that good...yadda, yadda.

I think this is just fandom in the NFL and nothing unique with Dolphins fans.

That just proves the point of good teams w/ good coaching will pull those victories out while sucky teams w/ sucky coaches will find a way to lose them all.

I live here - it is going to be unbearable tomorrow with all the huge grins and laughing. I hate it more when they get lucky. When they were really good and blowing teams away it was amazing and there was nothing to be upset about, they just out played everyone. This season they have been poor at times and yet still win. Those 4-5 games at the start of the season saved it for them. Now they are better and are coasting because of some massive luck.

Yup. I heard all off season and most of last year how Rex Ryan needed to be fired. A few weeks ago they wanted to sign him to an extension. Tom Coughlin, Ron Rivera, Mike Shanahan, Jason Garrett, Marvin Lewis. I can go on and on.

It's about wins and losses. It's ALWAYS about wins and losses. At this point, I see no reason why Joe Philbin shouldn't get another year here. The team doesn't quit, they play hard, they compete in almost every game.

Coaching doesn't have nearly the effect you think it does on the outcome of the game. There are only certain things that coaches can control. Today just happened to be a day where a two coaches made decisions today to not go for it on 3rd down in the opposition's territory and it cost them.

Yep, and now Tampa Bay has a 3 game winning streak when Schiano was apparently all bud dead in the water up there. He may yet still be.

Here's the problem with the typical way of fan thinking. Fans always have to find someone to blame, and it usually targeted at the head coach or the quarterback. Miami is a bit unique in that I'm not sure of other teams fans having such an intense desire to get rid of, and rightfully so, of the general manager.

In most cases, the criticism of play calls is usually just a knee jerk reaction. I do think coach's tend to screw up when they "go by the book" and play it safe like not going for it on 4th and 3 at the opposition's 35 yard line while up by three points. Think about it this way. What if Ron Rivera played it safe and punted on 4th and 10, down by three, with a little over 3 minutes left to play, thinking that he would just get the ball back? I think there is a very good chance that punting there would have flipped that game to Miami. So, this is one of the very few games where I think you can say that a coaching decision flipped the script, but you know what, even though Ron Rivera had big brass balls on the call, Cam Newton and Steve Smith still had to execute the play. In the end, it comes down to the players on the field. If Mike Wallace doesn't drop that pass at the end, then Miami wins.

With that said, I am in favor of making a change, not because I think a coaching change is going to make this team a playoff team, but because I think the Dolphins need a head coach that is much more media friendly, a better overall communicator, and more adaptable in his game planning. Most importantly though, the Dolphins have to get better players in here.

Moreno's the perfect case study for "Is he just gaining yards thanks to an amazing passing game giving him room to run?" He is a monster pass protector and very good receiver, though; we can say that much.

Imagine what Panthers fans would have thought if that 4th down attempt failed and we scored due to it. With one of the best D's in the league they would be calling for his head. Ive seen our coaches make big decisions that worked out, Ive seen them play conservative, have good games called and bad ones called. I'm not anywhere near a football guru like some that post here but I look back at talent that could have been and it makes me ill. I know hindsight is 20/20 but damn.. Like you said it comes down to execution from the players you have on the field.
