We lost and I am pissed but at least I am taking the pleasure of watching new England implode on national tv.3 fumbles already and its only the first quarter.14-0!!
Sighhhhhhhhhhhhh watching the Patriots makes me cry, if our Dolphins were down 24, then we would have gave up, unlike the Patriots.
I'm convinced that there are about 26 or so average coaches in the NFL that are completely interchangeable. There are probably 2-3 that are truly great and 2-3 that are truly very bad. In fact, those numbers are probably less with an increase in the interchangeable coaches.
**** if Miami were down 24-0 we would have thrown a pick 6, lose a fumble to a td, 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike contact, etc... And if were up 24-0 same ****.
great coaches - belicheck, payton, tomlin, mccarthy, coughlin. good coaches - harbaugh, shanahan, reid, smith, harbaugh. about 5 average coaches, then our coaching staff falls somewhere in between terrible and pathetic.
Yikes. Patriots now up 31-24 after falling down 24-0? Yeah. Not that the division was ever within reach in the first place, but kiss the division goodbye. We don't play on this level.
It's really cool that we can all sit back and appreciate these two QBs. Damn. Just so good for so long at the hardest position in sports, so much history between em, another great game about to go in the books. It's just awesome.
I say what a game on both sides. That last touchdown by the Broncos showed they're made of stern stuff as well. They didn't just give up a 24 point lead. They fought back. We'll see what happens on this drive.
You realize the Pats have scored more on their last 5 (hell, the previous 4) possessions than we have in a game all season? Not...quite...there...yet....
It was hard to ignore his 1st round talent. I think he came out the year Dez Bryant came out, no? If I remember right from a talent standpoint I thought it was Dez, Mike Williams and Demaryius all in one group with Dez leading, and then there was the rest of the guys. Demaryius could've been the top dog of that group if he weren't so inconsistent...but I guess coming from that offense, probably would've been hard to develop consistency. That didn't come until he was a pro.
Wow, Pats win the coin toss and they take the wind. I actually thought about this prior, but man is that risky.
Great coaches will take a risk. He's basically saying that Denver isn't scoring another TD on them, and they are going to play the wind.
This great!!!!! But you all notice how every player on offense contributes to the quality of play. Be it the line giving time and/or not taking stupid penalties, the backs getting yards on first down and the receivers taking short passes to the house. This, more than anything at QB, is what's holding back this offense.
I've been wondering why coaches don't do that more. It really makes sense. I'm sure it's something that the mad genius behind the mad genius (Ernie Adams) has been lobbying for. Teams with the ball first in overtime end up calling plays conservatively once they get into scoring position, because they don't want to lose the chance to score. They're in 3-down territory, not 4-down territory. I think you'll probably never see a team going for it on 4th down when they get the ball first in overtime. If they DO get a field goal then you get a chance to respond, and you will be in 4-down territory. That's a severe advantage. You will know what you need to do to prolong the overtime period, and you have no clock pressure. The team that starts with the ball won't have that advantage. It's basically the same as the college overtime where EVERY team defers if they win the coin toss. The only difference is the added danger that if the team that gets the ball first scores a touchdown, then the game is over. But like I said, that is made less likely due to the situation and the fact that the team with the ball first will never go for it on 4th down and will start to call plays more conservatively once they get into field goal range.
Belichick is obviously an advanced analytics guy. He's been using this stuff to help with game strategy and also to find market inefficiencies when it comes to free agency.
I like the fact that you know you will have four downs on your counter drive without it being a gamble. Edit..ck beat me to that...
