Some things that were the difference today: 1) Panthers coach goes for it in the 4th quarter. We don't. 2) Tannehill doesn't make his biggest plays at the biggest point in the game. That's it. To me, those were the biggest issues. Not the X's and O's. Cam Newton isn't technically better than Ryan as a passer, is he? But he does have a fire that shows up late in games, a confidence, yes a swagger, that I don't see from Tannehill. It's what carries a team down the field when it counts. The problem is, our head coach doesn't exhibit it either. I think you can get by with an intense Head Coach and less intense QB, or an intense QB and a more taciturn unemotional head coach. But having both at the same time, especially at crunch time, is not going to inspire or will your team to victory. Say what you will, but that's why even a horrible technical QB like Tebow managed to win some games (no I do NOT want him here). This team needs a pulse. Specifically on offense. Because I don't see it. I see a house of cards that folds easily when it counts most. (Who takes a sack to end a game? Not winners, I can tell you that much.)
I cant understand how Tannehill cant seem to hit wide open receivers down field, how many points did it cost us? Not only that but two weeks in a row Panthers draw a flag in the endzone and refs waive off the flags with no explanations.
I don't believe the refs are in a conspiracy… but I don't NOT believe it either. lol. Hey, if you *were* to think that way, here's an angle… who would the NFL rather have as front page news, or in a Superbowl? The Newton-led, charisma laden Panthers or the deadpan-coach, bullying-scandal Dolphins? Given the negative publicity around the Dolphins, I imagine the last thing the NFL would want are the Dolphins in the Superbowl. But honestly, the refs are not even on the list of our top ten problems right now, BBQ.
had nothing to do with the defense giving up 2 loooong drives, including a 95 yarder with the game on the line. but let's blame the QB
Dude… this offense struggles to put up points.. and yes, eventually the defense folds. But seriously, if I had to say which was the BIGGER problem? Offense. If we had even a single second half touchdown we don't lose that game. But you don't think the O is the problem.
See to me this is a biased perspective post, again how bout defense make a big play when it counts? The offense makes no play unless Tannehill makes it, defense couldn't get off the field on critical 3rd n long and the most critical 4th and 10 but its all on Tannehill. I hate to think what you guys would blame if you couldn't blame anyone but the D
3) Nolan Carol dropped the hammer that would've put the nails into the panthers coffin 4) Rashad Jones playing like a rookie(Cam N put on a good acting job falling O.B. To draw late hit penalty, but Jones set himself up by putting his hands on Newton) To add to your point #1, Mike Sherman's play calling is so predictable. It's soooo conservative and by the "book" late in games. (Sometimes you need to double down even when the dealer is showing a ten.)
I agree we need to score more, but D should have stopped that last drive. With that said, on that 4th and 2, I felt like we had a better chance to go for it then field goal. We had this game and blew it, no excuses. We should have won. Its frustrating, not one person deserves the blame. Its not just Wallace, he made some nice plays, its not just tanny, its everyone
If our safety had not of covered the wrong guy twice on the Wallace catches you guys would probably be trashing his performance.
With 5 minutes left the offense runs off less than about 1:00 of clock time. The offensive calls are terrible and it shows on the field. The difference between this team having 8 wins and 5 wins this year is the head coach. Players win blowouts, coaches win close games.
Totally agree.. Also agree that the defense can't let them get that Fg before the half. The defense can't let them take the opening drive of the 2nd half and eat up 7 minutes and ram it down our throats. Can't let them take the final drive and score the game winning TD. Total team collapse
Sorry of this is childish nonsense. So injuries all over the offense has nothin to do with us not scoring? It's just swagger? Also winner don't sacks at end of the game? Wtf does that even mean?
Does that mean we attempt a pass more than 2yards past the line of scrimmage????? Up tempo and attacking for sure!
You're the worst kind of homer. Because you bring your homerism to another team's boards and expect people to buy the crap you're selling. Wallace was roasting your secondary all damn day, even when there was help from a safety. Give it a rest man..
On topic... I think its hard to blame Tannehill in any way... did he leave plays on the field... oh god yes.. but if it's not for him, we have no offense whatsoever. He's doing all that he's doing even with us being a one dimensional offense. We have no running game, and most of the time we have no pass blocking either. It's a damn miracle he's not hurt, its a damn miracle we're even in any ballgame without a running game. It is however possible that we're even remotely in these games, because of Ryan
No one is saying he is the sole reason, but he is part of the reason. He is part of the reason the team is only scoring 20 points a game and it's difficult to win in today's NFL scoring that little. No one is saying to get rid of him but he needs to improve.
As funny as it sounds...I think that Tannehill coming to this team with Sherman as his coordinator and playbook was viewed as a positive. The more it goes on...I start to view it as a major hindrance.
I don't know the exact sequence but I believe the Phins called 1-2 passes that were not made, the one that was overturned and I think there may have been a penalty in there that stopped the clock. That would mean 5 plays that the Panthers would not have had a time out to stop, assuming the 2 minute timeout. At best the Panther should have had the ball at around 2:15.
One thing I hear lately regarding Tannehill is the mix-up between performance and production. Is his performance good enough to win? He put the ball in Matthews hands for a TD and Wallace turned himself around yet the ball was in his hands for the game winning TD. So yes, his performance is good enough to win. Is his production good enough to win? No. These play have to be converted into catches and then TDs. But the fact remains that the balls were there for his players to make plays. Right now, Tannehill is not good enough to overcome our deficiencies in our running game and up front. We need to step back and look at how our lack of a running game is crippling our offence. Instead of looking to cast aside our clearly NFL-caliber second year QB, why don't we replace our clearly inept/expansion caliber linemen and possibly RBs and then see where we are at?
This epitomizes the attitude of mose RT detractors,..."he isn't perfect". Yeah....maybe if he was 35/35 550 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT, no loss of possession....maybe, just maybe he would be an "above average QB". We might give him a chance after that. lol. Because we are a team that is perfect in so many other aspects from GM to coaching to Offensive Line to fanbase that we really need and deserve perfection that even Dan and the '72 boys couldn't live up to. Give. Me. A. Break. of that Kit Kat bar you are smoking.
but we don't struggle to move the ball, only score in the redzone. To me, I point the finger at the inability to run the ball. To be a good redzone team, and get TD's instead of FGs, you need your Oline to be able to take control in the shorter field. When we had a healthier Oline, at least we had some success at doing that.
Yes he is better than Ryan. Did you see the throws Cam made down field? Those were "wow" throws. The difference is huge. One is a noodle arm and the other throws like Marino. He is technically better. But more than that, he is more in charge of his throws and the offense and the decisions to throw.
It's laughable people want to give on Tannehill. Absolutely laughable. The fact this dude has a respectable passer rating behind this offensive line and zero running game is a major plus for him.
I think his personal weakness is trying to become a leader..I think he thinks he's not a natural one, I think it's difficult for him to hold everyone accountable, I see him struggle with being outspoken..I think he's learning how to become one..he's tough, and if he starts taking matters into his own hands and starts making some plays on his own, his confidence will rise, and maybe this offseason he can let everyone know he's taking his game to another level preparation wise, and if their not doing the same, then he should get in some ***.. he also has below average skill players overall with no yac ability, and a conservative staff that has cut off his balls all season..so we can play the blame game til the cows come home on this franchise, but bottom line, it's time for him to make plays on his own and stop thinking he's a distributor, he doesn't have the players on offense to play that sort of game, ditto for protection.. It's time to just let this dude free and see what we have..
Lol what throws did newton throw downfield..he posted another qbr rating in the fifties in two of his last three.. The dude was off from the pocket all day, scared even at times, just terrible mechanics...he's a running Qb who can pass a little, who's really good at scrambling, if you want to build around that ok, I think it can be done, but I think you have to completely embrace it. Two throws in the first half..the first, the wheeler deflection when they were near their own goalline, he telegraphed the pass so much that not inky did wheeler get the bead in it, if it wasn't deselected you had an easy pick 6, 2nd pass after that on the next drive, he telegraphs where he's going so much our corner seems him in coverage breaks off his responsibility and picks it off.. We couldn't contain his running ability and he beat our defense with it.
The defense didn't collapse. They're forced to seal every damn game because the offense can't put away the opposing team. Tampa Bay, San Diego, Cincy, Buffalo are all great examples. Sometimes they get the job done, sometimes they don't, this isn't a perfect defense but it typically performs well enough to win. And I'm not putting this all on Tanny. The lack of a running game mixed with a ****ty o-line and playcalling are just as much as fault, hell probably even more. This game today has been played countless times for the past 5-6 years at least.
It's blowing my mind that Egnew didn't see the field last year because of his blocking and now all he does is block.
the fact of the matter is tannehill did everything people were hammering him for not doing. he hit wallace on 2 huge pass plays, including a touchdown. he used his feet to make some big plays and people are still hammering him for the loss. he has 0 running game, a **** oline with a bunch of back ups, matthews drops a touchdown/bs blown call, sturgis missed a field goal, and wallace misses a game winning touchdown pass at the end. not to mention some brilliant defense of scheming allowing a team with 0 time outs on their own side of the field with 8 seconds to go get a free 3 points. all of this against the team whose defense only gives up 13 points a game, is 5th against the pass and 3rd against the rush, yet this is somehow tannehills fault?
