Which makes no sense. Guy has an amazing season on a team that just barely misses the play offs. Or the guy who has an amazing season on a totally stacked team who is more value?

I agree but lets not act like the Angels were void of talent....Put the Angels in the AL Central like the Tigers and they do much better....

Prince Fielder is headed to Tejas for Ian Kinsler... good for Detroit to unload that contract IMO.

According to Metsblog, the Mets are discussing Ryan Braun. They have had preliminary discussions with Milwakee regarding Ike Davis or Lucas Duda for Aoki. The same article states Milwakee is more likely to trade Braun then Aoki. Remember Braun and Selig arent exactly on the best of terms.

Such a win for the Tigers.....Yes the money traded offsets things for 4 years pretty much but the Rangers are going to really regret those last three years on the Fielder contract. I know it helps them now but.

So many positives for the Tigers. SAve money to Extend Scherzer. Possibly add to the BP with the likes of Nathan. Can now play Castallenos at 3rd and move Miggy to first and possibly extend him.

    What a trade.

Yeah I think it was probably a smarter move for the Tigers to unload Fielder. I know he's been healthy and plays almost every game so far in his career but that body scares the hell out of me.

What's really interesting is all of these big contracts to 1B recently (Pujols, Teixeira, Gonzalez, Fielder) have been busts in terms of expected production and what the player actually produced.

The Tigers kicked in 30M+ to offset the 2 contracts.....not bad for them honestly, they get a pretty great bat for under 20M...

Fink I wont say Fielder has been a bust per se, in the playoffs sure, maybe down a little bit this year....considering that ballpark though?

I mean comparatively speaking against what Tex, AP. etc have done...

I actually like the trade for Texas....

Josh Johnson picked the right place for a one year deal that's for sure.

Sucks to see Carpenter go, very underrated during his time. A true horse.

    Yeah probably 1B or pitchers.

Bust in the sense that after only 2 years he gets traded after signing a 9 year deal. You can't really call Gonzalez a bust either, unless you want to talk about his power numbers, but he too got traded in year 2 after signing an extension.

Bottom line is two teams already regretted their deals for $100+ million 1B.

[h=1]PETER GAMMONS ON ALEX RODRIGUEZ: "HE'S LIKE THE MARATHON BOMBERS"[/h]Written by Matt Yoder on 21 November 2013.

Peter Gammons is one of the most respected, revered sportswriters in America. But he made a stunning comparison today when discussing the Alex Rodriguez saga. When he was interviewed on Mike Lupica's ESPN Radio New York show, Gammons relayed thoughts comparing A-Rod to the Boston Marathon bombers in how he's handled his battle with Major League Baseball.

"I've had people with the Yankees say this to me. He wants to blow up the world. He's like the marathon bombers."
In fairness, Gammons infers that he's had people from the Yankees say at least part of that quote to him, so who knows if that's Gammons' thoughts entirely or whether he's just relaying the marathon bombing analogy from within the organization. Still though, it's probably best to not share that kind of analogy publicly under any circumstances. Say what you want about A-Rod... but terrorist? Wherever that line of thinking is coming from, it just goes to show how toxic this situation is and how perspective is quickly being lost.

I mean I get he didn't say that supposedly and given Levine's mouth I wouldn't doubt he did say it but if as a reporter A) you know you can't out anybody as the source in writing (thus deferring you of the comment) and B) regardless using common sense really just shouldn't say that; then I think your better days are past you....

    OF or Pitcher?

    Nm

    OF'

he Mets have reached an agreement with outfielder Chris Young on a one-year deal, but that won't preclude the team from pursuing other outfield options, apparently. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Mets are still in the mix for Nelson Cruz (Twitter link). Cruz, 33, slashed .266/.327/.506 with 27 homers in 109 games (456 plate appearances) but saw his season cut short by a 50-game suspension due to his involvement with the Biogenesis PED scandal. As I noted in his free agent profile, Cruz was candid about his mistake, admitting that prior to the 2012 season, he had lost nearly 40 pounds as a result of a bacterial infection that led to his usage of a banned substance. He accepted his punishment without appeal.
Cruz rejected a qualifying offer from the Rangers, so the Mets would have to forfeit their second-round pick in order to sign him (their first-round pick is protected). At last week's GM Meetings in Orlando, special assistant J.P. Ricciardi told me that the Mets would be willing to make such a sacrifice for the right player and that the team's highest priority was adding offense. As one of the most powerful bats on the market, Cruz would certainly provide a boost to a Mets team that finished 26th in the Majors in home runs and 29th in slugging percentage.

7.5 million seems pretty high. On another note how bad is the Angels GM.... You give up a valuable defensive CF AND a top 5 propect in your farm for the over rated Freese and a bleh reliever????

It's an awful move for the mets. Young can't hit his weight anymore and at 7.25M for a team claiming to have a budget of 25M (When well over 35M just came off their books) is a complete waste of funds. We already have a better defensive CF with Juan Lagares (only 1 NL CF was better in dWAR despite Lagares not playing about 1/3rd of the year). Nym need offense and instead of signing 2 acceptable major league corner OF's they spend 7.25M on crap.

I had no problem biding my time with bay and santana on the books because they weren't going to compete those years anyway. Now they're just BS' ing met fans so I implore mets fans not to bother going to games. If you want to give me a A's or Rays like payroll give me results like that. Then we can talk. They're just being cheap. They have a top 5 revenue stream in the entire league and they act like Bernie Madoff broke them. Too bad he didnt. Having met Jeff Wilpon, I have nothing good to say about the ownership of this team. Cheap, dumb, and meddlesome.

David Murphy just signed a 2 year 12 million dollar deal and he's a 4th OFer, and last year Jonny Gomes signed a 2 year 10 million dollar deal and he's one too. Player's contracts aren't going down anytime soon, especially with all the TV money teams are generating. I think teams are now more worried about the length of the contract then the dollar amount.

Seems like with the Harvey injury the Mets will be using it as an excuse to punt 2014. I still don't think the CY deal is a terrible one, maybe not ideal because with Lagares at CF it takes away some of Young's value. He hasn't been the same player since he hurt his shoulder in 2012 but who knows maybe he has a good year and the Mets end up getting a pick out of it. If he stinks again then he's gone.

I do agree about ownership though. You own a team in NY, you better spend some money. If you don't just sell the freaking team.
