and as much as I like Jimmy Johnson and Jon Gruden.. I don't think either one is good for this franchise at the moment. I don't think Jimmy would want to be involved anyway. And I reckon Gruden will want a team that has an established quarterback. Cowboys still top his list. I'd see a guy like Gruden using the Dolphins just like Jeff Fisher did, to get more money out of the team he really wants to go to.

I think generally speaking, you want to avoid coaches that have been out of the game for 3 years or more.

Sure JT would great in that role Fin describes, but I don't want anyone near the GM/personnel dept unless they are a proven in the art of scouting players, it must be something they love to do..thoroughly...a complete passion and patience to sit in a room by yourself and do the most important requisite the job requires for hours on end..

I disagree that he was a great coach. Even his proponents are avoiding talking about what he did in Oakland and Tampa, and are instead referring to things he says on Monday Night Football.

I dont think that is a black and white answer though. What has the coach been doing with his time over three years?

Gruden has been planning his return. Hell the guy probably knows which ever teams he thinks are potential teams for him to coach...as good or better then the coaches running the team.

He won a super bowl. that's really all that matters. Was it HIS team? no. but it still matters.

Yes, but then no one has won the Super Bowl with two different teams.

I don't mind the idea of JT in the president role. He'd basically be replacing Ross. Ross could then just go back to being the money behind the scenes while JT would take over the football operations and being the face. The coach and the GM would answer to JT and JT would answer to Ross. I don't know that JT is a slam dunk, great choice or anything, but we could do worse. I do think he'd be a far better choice than Marino and about as promising a choice as Elway was when he joined the Broncos.

What he did in Oakland? He took a team to the brink of a Super Bowl appearance and would of went if it not for the stupid tuck rule. Then took a team that routinely under achieved with another pretty damn good coach and won a Super Bowl. Easily.

Go back and look at that bucs team. They had some good talent on defense. But that offense was under talented. What he did in Tampa after that was run the talent into the ground with terrible personnel decision after terrible perks ell decision.

He was a VERY good coach. I would love to know why you think he wasn't.

Exactly . Maybe his talent is taking an established Team with talent and LEADING THEM. Perfect for the Dolphins at this time.

I disagree with that. But I agree that some coaches who have left the league are not committed enough to be recalled. Bottom line, there has to be commitment beyond just getting paid.
