Makes zero sense to me. He's essentially saying that putting Dion in against the run will make our run defense worse which we all know doesn't seem possible. It's all a bunch of BS. I don't believe for a second that a 3rd overall DE recognized by many as the best defensive player in the draft isn't worthy of getting every snap, let alone 9 snaps. Blows my mind.

    Previous 3rd overall picks:

    Trent Richardson
    Marcell Dareus
    Gerald McCoy

    Immediately effective starters

    but hes NOT.

thats whats so baffling. Seeing as how he can actually play in space and was even capable of covering a guy like gronkowski, he might be the most dimensional player on the team! We have a guy who can rush the passer, can cover TE's, and capable of making open field tackles and we can't find a way to get him on the field?

    that dog won't hunt monsignor

I think they did that in the game because Stanford was playing special teams and his body was more warmed up.

So basically Misi and trusnik would have gone #1 and #2 last year in the draft since they defend the run better and are okay to on par with DJ. gotcha Coyle. You make sense.

Oh by the way, who remembers the last time Trusnik stopped a RB? Who remembers 3 times DJ did it in his 40 snaps total in the NFL? I remember every single one of them and one being the BIG goal line stop.

Damn he sure sucks, at least compared to those two superstars ahead of him.

I truly have been happy with whats happened to this organization the last 2 weeks. I have officially quit on this organization as a whole and blame it on myself for expecting anything different this year and as a whole. Until they clean THE ENTIRE HOUSE I don't care a bit for this ******ed team. I feel like we have Matt Millens from owner to assistant coach. Possibly the worst organization in the NFL is the Miami Dolphins.

ATL was in the hole with us, they got out outside of this year.
Cleveland in the hole and are better this year.
Indy got out the hole in a year.
Detroit is out the hole but at least fun to watch during the last couple years.
Jets are IN THE PLAYOFFS AS OF TODAY FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

Miami? Still the pathetic jokes from the early 2000's.

I'm not sure what the point is, Misi wasn't available. Nor would I suggest Trusnik is a bad run player, he's pretty comparable to Misi. He didn't have a good game vs. the Bucs, but you can quite reasonably expect him to go out there and play the position well enough.

Paul Soliai doing his disappearing act, and our every down linebackers misfiring was a way bigger issue, and much more to blame than any package issue.

Starks was. You'd rather have a career backup LB on the field than Randy? Dion Jordan was also available, and if he's viewed as a greater liability vs the run than Trusnik then you counter that by going stouter at RE with Odrick to get Jordan on the field, especially when considering Coyle's inclination to blitz his linebackers when he wants to bring pressure. Let's see here, which one would we want on the field: #3 overall pick, best hybrid OLB in the draft.... orrr 7 year career backup 3-4 OLB who has 0 sacks, 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 PD, 0 INT in 3 years with Miami?

If Trusnik is pretty comparable to Misi then why did his agent settle for such a small contract extension? $2.1M for Trusnik vs $17.7 for Misi.

but wouldn't an altered package have helped to address these problems during the opening drive when it was apparent our run D was getting exposed? If Starks were brought in and Odrick moved over to 2-gapping it at RE, wouldn't that have taken some of the strain away from Soliai and simplified responsibilities for the linebackers? Apparently Coyle agrees b/c he did end up changing it up in this manner, albeit it took him too long and we were down by 2 scores.

Furthermore, couldn't the scheme in general be creating issues for our linebackers and Reshad Jones?
