I just want it to be soomer than later. I want to distance ourselves from all of this. We've now been 2-0 with two opening road wins in Irelands tenure and will fail to make the playoffs.
(Shaking Head)..... I've been saying this since draft day... When you spend millions to upgrade your offense, and you fail to address an offensive line only a homer couldn't see was going to be the worst in the league, you have failed miserably as a GM. Dion Jordan was a stupid pick and burning a 2nd rounder to make that stupid pick, makes it worse than Ted Ginn Jr.. Lane Johnson has started every game this season for Philly, McCoy is having a nice year running the ball. Why isn't Lane Johnson playing LT for Miami, because this GM is a moron. I'm not saying one young beast of a LT would have turned this line around, but jeeeez have the sense to address your weaknesses and fill those needs. Dion Jordan...the invisible man. Anyone who thought this offensive line was going to be good enough, can permanently keep their mouth closed or hit the door with Ireland. You no longer have merit in the matters of personel. Jeff Ireland is one of the worst GM's in football and I will celebrate the day he gets fired.
It's all up to Ross. I can see him firing Ireland and retaining Philbin for now. Give him the rest of the season to show what he's made of. I just want to know what Shula, Marino, Moore and Taylor were doing with Ross.
It wasn't the Jordan pick that killed me. I think he's being miscast incredibly poorly by Coyle and our scheme. If we offer Jake more money, he stays. McKinnie who has played well, could've been offered a 2 yr deal and he's here earlier. He's been better thn Martin (a poor draft choice). Between the coaches he's assembled and the players he's provided, it has just never worked. Its a cluster all the way around.
The task force Ross was referring to. Although I think they'll offer more than just advice on locker room conduct...
Lane Johnson has been close to being the worst tackle in football this year. Just saying, if you are going to criticize a the pick of a player the coaching staff seems more interested in limiting than turning him loose when he was getting a pressure for every 7 pass rush snaps he had early on, at least bring up a good player that we passed on. Dion Jordan is going to be a great player when they decide to turn him loose and start using him correctly.
I hope you are right in that assumption. What I heard from Ross was that he has full faith in Philbin... very similar to his speech last year about Ireland.
Oh wow, Curtis Martin and Tony Dungy are in that group. Zach Thomas seems like an ideal fit. Wonder why he isn't.
The next GM is going to be set up pretty well here... got some good cap space, most of our draft picks and we already have a few key pieces, IMO, to be a competitive team.. the OL is priority number 1, then we need some playmakers on both sides of the ball but particularly on offense (WR, TE, RB). With better coaching, a solid draft and some key FA pickups we could be a good team as early as next season already. Hopefully the new FO can take us there.
I don't know if we're set up well at all. We have a ton of FA's and cap space wrapped up in some mediocre players. Other than QB, what position can you feel good about not having to improve? Grimes, Clemons, Starks, Patterson, Soliai are all FA's. We don't have any young guys or guys locked up at positions of strength.
I like Philbin, but you can officially put me on the David Shaw bandwagon if that's what it will take.
No chance in hell I assume Ross fires Irish. Unfathomable as it is, I don't think he has the balls to do it.
The group isn't complete. Ross said he has about 4 other folks in mind to be on this committee. Zach will likely be one guy he would like to talk to.
Agree that its not a silver lining, but it is certainly better than suffering through Ireland again. Plus, when given a chance, quality coaches or GMs will go anywhere that is hiring. They go to that organization looking to build their own thing. What happened before does not matter. Its how organizations turn things around. The Patriots weren't much of anything pre-2001. The Saints were NOTHING pre-2006. Colts before Manning? A joke. or how the 2 win Chiefs are now 9-0.
seriously why are you jumping on the Fire Ireland bandwagon? There are only a few of us on this train, and I don't remember seeing you on this. Stick to your Pro Jeff post, show some spine.
you have no idea what you are talking about...with this statement. Nick Foles is the best QB in NFL right now with the help of his offense line, including LJ. Just please....go away.
Lane Johnson is 53rd out of 59 offensive tackles relative to pass blocking efficiency with the criteria of taking 50%+ of the snaps. Tyson Clabo is 57th. Jonathan Martin was 49th. Lane Johnson has given up 7 sacks and 42 total pressures on the year in 371 pass block snaps.
you realize people say stuff just to specifically annoy you b/c of your obnoxious repetitive posting style, right?
Okay so when did you officially leave the ISG? You telling me back in October or so you didn't really want to commit to him long term?
That was VICK the PRICK as the QB, check the stats with a competent QB in NICK FOLES DUDE. Seriously, I'm not trying to be a punk. With a competent QB. Another words, he'd be awesome on the Dolphins. Lets agree on that.
Ireland's offseason singings certainly aren't performing to contract. Whether it's b/c of the players themselves or b/c the coordinators are failing to appropriately scheme to ability, it still falls on Ireland b/c he hired or signed off on the staff. I think the reality is somewhat in the middle though with liability falling on both the acquisitions and the coaches.
Ireland Support Group. Basically anyone who is not all for firing Ireland is a member. And FTR I will cyber slap the next person who quotes an LB post.
His mother should've either stopped at one or continued till the job was finished in regards to dropping him on his head, b/c this half reetard stuff isn't flying.
In other words it is on Ireland then as the GM is accountable for the head coach and thus the other coaches . At least the current one(s) are since the last ones didn't really count. Too many mistakes , too often , not really that much further along and we seem to have more bridges to cross all the time. Too bad it has taken this long , but time to do this right this time.
Hoping they clean house after the season. This time I hope they hire a GM and scouting team that actually knows what they are doing. Also hope they hire some young innovative coach who will hire coordinators that are progressive thinking. Please no more Dan Hennings, or Mike Shermans. Sucks that the New GM will be stuck with the contracts of Wallace, Wheeler and Ellerbe. With a solid O line Wallace would be a good #2 and deep threat but not worth anywhere near what he will be making. Ellerbe is ok, not great but good enough to start while being overpaid. Wheeler is just too much of a liability and hopefully is replaced by the next regime even if they have to eat his salary. Unless they just keep him as an overpaid situational blitzing LB. On offense the new regime will have to build an entire offensive line, except for Center unless Pouncey ends up in serious legal trouble. Need to find a power back to compliment Miller and a solid fullback. Need to get a true #1 receiver. Wallace would be an overpaid #2. Hartline a good #3.Gibson & Matthews very good as 4th and 5th receivers. Will have to find a #1 TE. Clay is ok at H-back/#2 TE. Sims needs to work on his blocking. Egnew has improved his blocking but still needs a lot of work. On Defense, re-sign either Starks or Soliai to pair with Odrick. Going to need to draft/sign some depth at DT. Wake, Jordan and Vernon will stay at DE, might have to draft/sign more depth at the position. Unless the new staff likes Shelby. Ellerbe and Misi will probably stay. Need to find a replacement for Wheeler. Need to draft/sign some good LB depth. Hopefully re-sign Grimes. Find another starting CB as well, since Patterson is not reliable. Jimmy Wilson would be gone. Carrol might be kept. The rest of the young CBs will need to be evaluated. Safeties are ok, but Jones has taken a couple steps down compared to last season. Clemons has been pretty solid. Will need to find better depth at safety though. Wow that is just sad looking at how much work it will take to rebuild this team into a championship caliber one. Just hope this time they get the right people to do it.
Solid points, but isn't it the job of the GM to hire the right coaching staff? Work with the coach to find the right players to fit? Either way it unfortunately goes back to Jeff Ireland.
I would not be sad if joe is fired.. but look at the panthers they gave ron time to learn how to coach now hrs top 5 for coach of the year...
If you let both Soliai and Starks walk after this season, I predict the DL will become another area of need for this team. Wake is getting up in age and Vernon is merely a mediocre DE. Odrick would be this teams only decent DT and we still don't know if Jordan can be anything more than be a pass rushing specialist. He is said to be weak against the run and Starks and Soliai are probably the strongest players on the DL against the run. I don't see the Dolphins spending the money to sign both Soliai and Starks, but they have to sign at least one of them after this season.
This internet beef is quite amusing to me...Hey, GM why are you like that towards LB? I haven't seen any post of his attacking you personally. He is only half heartedly joking around with Ireland defenders, nothing malicious. I don't understand blocking someone who simply has a different view than you, it speaks more to your character than his. And since I'm new I scrolled older post from both you and LB and he's been more accurate about his prognostications and assessments than you. Doesn't really mean anything because it's the internet, but maybe you should give him credit, he's right about a lot of stuff. He was right about Ireland, his views on the linebacker signings being a wash turned out true, he was the only poster who questioned the drafting of Jonathin Martin. He was the only one vocal about spending too much about Mike Wallace. Fin D finally apologized for past ignorance and it showed a great deal of character. Maybe it's time you unblock LB and others who actually turned out to be right, squash the beef and shake hands and have an open mind moving forward.
My bad didn't see the "still falls on him for the staff he hired." portion. Completely agree with your point.
