I thought they just hired a guy from the Padres to replace Mike Dee ? Isn't he the team President with day to day and hands on power ?

Only over the business side. The business side has little to no communication with the football side in this organization. That is abnormal.

Why would anyone be fired? Incognito's release of text proves that this was just a misunderstanding... Am I missing something? It was all blown up by the media although I wouldn't mind replacing Ireland.

Nothing has been proven one way or the other, also you are forgetting the sexual harassment incident that was covered up by the team.

Oh I am horribly embarrassed about what has happened to this franchise. You could see on Marino's and Johnson's faces today on the pre-game shows how painful this is.

I will do a kazatsky dance for a few minutes when I hear the news Ireland is gone. That I will not deny myself.

I didn't realize this since I quit going to the news sites when they started charging to read the articles, but here is a link:

    http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...l-says-he-doesnt-know-if-marino-is-up-for-it/

Apparently, the thought has crossed Dan's mind, and considering how successful John Elway has been, he might jump at the opportunity.

Would it be the right decision? Who knows. Part of me thinks it would be astounding if he surrounded himself with the right people (like bringing back Bryan Wiedmeier, Tom Heckert Jr...etc). Part of me thinks it could blow up. However, it would be a massive move for PR purposes. You are talking about trying to win this fan base back, and you bring back the Golden Boy of Miami Dolphins football to bring credibility back to the organization, similar in a way to what Denver did after the Josh McDaniels fiasco by bringing back John Elway.

"League circles" means "people involved with the NFL." Agents, scouts, front office executives, etc. Basically, Silver fired off a bunch of texts to his NFL sources and asked for their opinions.

There's nothing nebulous about it. Just because a source isn't named doesn't mean it's not credible. The entire point of having an information source is to not promptly get rid of the information source by naming it.

False. The business side communicates plenty to the football side, which is unresponsive to the business side. When the business side makes requests like filming the players for game day video board material, the football side ignores it or declines outright.

I think CK is right. There needs to be a bridge between the two sides, because this structure is not working.

It's their job to make sure everyone in the sports world knows what one player did? It's not like they put a hit on the girl... I didn't know the team had to report everything to the media, should they hire more people to video tape the players every night so they can send a play by play to espn and tmz every night so we know what nfl players do in their free time?

You know, the parallels are actually intriguing.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5854856

Prior to bringing John Elway back, the Broncos were in the process of a 5 season span where their record would end up being 36-44. During that one very bad year under McDaniels though, they were hit with a spygate controversy.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5907212

It would be a BIG TIME RISK, but nothing is guaranteed when you are trying to make these decisions.

Dan Marino didn't even study the game when he was playing. Why the **** would we want him calling any shots now? Was it the Damon Huard endorsement that made everyone think to themselves......this guys gets it? Was it the love child? Was it being obviously drunk during the uniform unveiling?

Marino was a great passer. That doesn't mean he's suited to running a team. Or flying an commercial jetliner. Or performing brain surgery.

Not that I don't think that the entire team will be blown up and all the Irish haters will be happy to see him go, but at this point, this thought that they are getting canned is just conjecture...likely, but conjecture none the less...

I'm not saying it's the right thing to do but it's what I believe will happen because of Ross' love of big names and his need to wake up a dead fan base.

I'm not going to be shedding any tears for Philbin and company if Ross shows them the door along with Ireland. Ross will make sure to hire a GM who wants to keep/build around Tannehill and in my opinion we should steer well clear of coaching and front office retreads and just continue to hire up and coming coordinators until we find someone good that we can stick with for a long time. Retired coaches who come back are rarely every successful in their second stint.

There was a lot of speculation that the reason he left was because his position was nothing more than a figure head position.

Also saw a report that stated the only reason the Dolphins got a visit from Peyton Manning last year was because they enlisted Dan Marino to help persuade him to take a visit.

Whether anyone thinks he is qualified for the job or not, by hiring Dan Marino, you automatically improve your credibility from where it has been.

If they do dump Philbin: Bill.O.Brien. If he can handle that horror show at Penn State and make them relevant in his first season and get a top QB recruit to go there, I think he could handle this hot bag of pooh that's going on right now in Miami. Question is, would he want to leave a place like Penn State? In the end, NFL head coaching jobs are a premium and whether you think the Miami Dolphins are "premium" anymore is irrelevant. It's a NFL coaching job. But, it's prolly a pipe dream. I doubt he leaves Penn State or would even be on the Dolphins radar. And yes, Ireland is gone. If Ross doesn't can him, then there is no hope whatsoever. And I'm a fan who wants some stability here, but I don't know if those 2 can survive this. Ross has to be mad, ashamed and embarrassed. Whether this turns out to be anything more than a misunderstanding between 2 people turned into a national "scandal," Ross has egg on his face and in his circle of people, that's not good.

He didn't want to do the work , and that isn't being negative towards him . He at the time and I doubt that has changed , did not want to do the daily regimen of running a team and then having to meet expectations.

One guy did one favor for Marino. That is not credibility.

Marino is known as an ******* in league circles. He's a philanderer. He's not against being drunk at major functions. He is not a student of the game. He's never proven he understands talent.

And that's different from John Elway how? Peyton Manning doing John a favor landed him in Denver. Had Marino been a part of the Dolphins instead of just getting Manning to look at him, then we would very likely have landed him. And this is coming from a guy that thought he was done with his neck injury and considered him a short time option.

Like I said earlier, bringing Marino in to run the show would be a big risk. However, because he would be running the show, it doesn't mean he would be doing the contract negotiations or player evaluation. You are essentially bringing him back to the organization to restore the credibility and integrity of a once proud organization that has been sullied because of sheer incompetence at the top over the years as well as our media policies since 2005 where the organization as a whole is brutish and standoffish to the media.

I've followed this team since the mid 80s, so I was fortunate enough to see this team in the days when it was considered to be one of the model, if not THE model organization in football. This organization had respect from top to bottom and the greatest coach this game has ever seen. There are a lot of posters here that are older than me that got to see the team play in its glory days. I want to get back to that, and this team is not going to get there by maintaining the status quo.

There is no way we were landing manning. Marino here or not, we had a first time new coach and had an average team. Denver had more money, more talent, a coach that would stay out of Manning's way, they just came off a playoff run and they had more money.

You're rewriting history here. Marino had to beg him to come here and it wasn't because Marino wasn't team president.

If Marino isn't doing those things, then he's just a figurehead and this is pointless.

This team hasn't stayed in the status quo since Shula. We've changed coaches, GMs, philosophies, regimes, logos, everything. What we need is some stability. For once, we need to have little faith and let Philbin build this thing.

After we win tonight, we will be in a tie with a team we play twice for the final playoff spot.

Why would you start axing people if we defy the odds and make the postseason? Actually Philbin would be a candidate for COY if he takes this dysfunctional bunch to the playoffs.

Im not sure Philbin will be gone at all if we get to 9 wins. I just cant see how Jeff Ireland survives. I know some hate this..hate that this whole fiasco will be the nail in his coffin..but its the final nail..not the first..IMO.

But..if you dont think there will be some major..major organizational structure changes..your crazy.

Nothing will happen until the investigation is done. Ross will wait until the NFL provides their report..and possible solutions. This will be when Ross makes the change at GM, IMO. Officially. I think Ireland has already been told the news. Just my personal guess.

    My prediction.

First hammer to drop. Ireland is fired. Aponte is GM. We know she has good relationship with Philbin. As long as he keeps the team from imploding..Philbin will stay.

We will have a new team President..and front office and team will be much closer now.

Denver looks more talented because they have Peyton now. Their previous playoff run was an 8-8 anomaly. If Miami would have acquired Peyton they could certainly be on a similar run right now. If you think Elway vs. Ireland had nothing to do with the reason Peyton was serious about Denver but never Miami you're kidding yourself. Like Elway, a name like Marino brings instant credibility whether it's deserved or not.

I also think one advantage for Marino..is he has been in the media now for awhile. He will have a much better grasp as to how to handle them.

I'm not kidding myself at all. You guys are fabricating facts and rewriting history.

You're a big name QB trying to get one last championship run, you going to the team that was good enough ot get to the playoffs and win with Tebow at QB or are going to the team that had Hartline and Bess as the top 2 wideouts?

Its ridiculous to think if the only difference is that Marino was our team president, Manning would have turned down the extra money and better squad to play here. There is not one single fact that backs it up either.

In the 5 years prior to getting Manning, Denver was 36-44. They were two years removed from a 4-12 season where the organization was sullied by Spygate 2.

The biggest reason Manning didn't come to Miami is because of our front office structure, or lack thereof.
