Given a meteoric rise in notoriety thats left him easily the most "hated" player in the league, he indeed has little to lose.

Otoh with a captive audience fixated on his villianous persona at its zenith, this momentary window of opportunity could be his last chance to alter the media's horrific depiction of him before the paint dries.
Never know, Cogs has actually shown a more polished presentation in recent interviews, casting himself as articulate, self-composed, and reflective. He'll certainly need them all and then some, facing the kind of scrutiny typically reserved for dictators of oppressive, bully nations.

All guys on fox took Ritchie's defense..

Terry said it best..we the media jumped to conclusions and we shouldn't have"..they all agreed...

    Jon Martin has emotional issues..

Jon Martin was falling short of expectations.

Jon Martin was a bad football player..

Jon Martin lost his job as the left tackle..

He couldn't take the last joke, snapped, and used the ribbing as an excuse for reason for leaving..

That's sad but true. Magina to end. Hundreds wash out of the NFL. You go on like a man and use that education you earned elsewhere. How many make a starting lineup for 2-3 yrs? Martin was still a hell of an athlete who might have caught on somewhere else and eeked out 2-3 more seasons. But he was not right in the head. Lets move on and give Ritchie his starting position back.

Incognito still practically molested a woman. Martin selfishly wants to get paid after leaving the team (probably at the advice of lawyers...).

Martin & Incognito are both headcases and I refuse to "take sides". I hope the team unites in their absence and learns from this negative experience. We'll find out over the next few weeks whether they're frauds or not. They wanted to send a message to the media and stick it to them, well the only way to do that is to WIN GAMES. If they end up losing a bunch and missing the playoffs you have to wonder if they really are as united as they say.

As for the coaches... They should've seen why other teams didn't want to draft Jonathan Martin and they should've seen why other teams shied away from Incognito and how he had problems on multiple teams before. Ireland knew he was getting potential problems and failed to handle both of them creating this distraction. We'll see what happens to him...

If you fire Ireland who takes his role? I am asking because I don't know, not because that is a reason not to fire Ireland. I am just curious as to who would take that role if they did fire Ireland in mid-stream.

Probably the Assistant General Manager, Brian Gaine...

There is also Executive Vice President of Football Administration, Dawn Aponte - or Director of College Scouting, Chris Grier.

My stance has always been, evaluation time mid season, third year, I've tried not to let other folks opinions deter me from thinking what I believed to be a fair evaluation of a GM who had to deal with very specific unique variables..at this point, from what we know,it's hard for me to see him survive, however, if the team makes a run and makes the playoffs, I'd revisit.

If Ireland gets canned during the season that is whom I'd guess takes over on an interim basis. Then after the season, Ross could look for a new GM and maybe consider Gaine for taking over on a longer term basis.

You said "Originally Posted by djphinfan View Post

You previously said you would not fire him during the season , the comment seems to indicate you are now saying to fire him before the end of the season.

Is he the answer? In my mind the answer is pretty clear and has been for a long time . The longer we wait , well ... the longer we wait until we are a legitimate consistent deep playoff team .

Dead GM walking , I hope the walk is short , finally.

Yeah didn't mean in the immediate type context, let the team and coach decide his fate at this point with their performance..if the team does perform well and makes it, then I think the coach will sit down with the owner and have some influence on Ireland's job security moving forward.

Based on personnel decisions alone, and I know you have to take into account the totality of the job as in all units, but you really can't look past the poor decisions over the last 3 seasons on the oline, and you have to take into account how bleak the future of the unit looks as well..right now were gonna need two starting tackles, a good probability of a new guard, and maybe an upgrade at the other guard..

The guy who delivers the water bottles on Thursdays can fill in for Ireland until Ross finds another GM, Dolphins won't skip a beat.

I hate to take shots at some of the fans on here, but it seems if you do a quick chronology of their post, you see a few of them (bout 6 or 7) have the backbone of a jellyfish. There has been a devout bunch of Ireland critics for last 2 seasons , a great number of neutral, and a steadfast bunch of supporters. Now that the neutral have veered toward the group critical of Ireland, his supporters have thrown in the towel. If they are having a realization of the true components of his mediocre (it's key to use that word in place of Failed) tenure, and see they may have misjudged him, it's admirable to see them be honest about the situation. If they are simply tired of fighting with the now overwhelming majority, that's a bit disheartening as I enjoy seeing passionate devout views that aim to protect such an unlikeable, uninspiring figure as Jeff Ireland, even though those views differ vastly than my own.
