The entire idea that you can tell John Jerry "to lose 20 pounds" is flawed logic. Most players negotiate and have to sign off on playing weights in their contract. If they don't maintain that weight they are fined because it's a performance issue. Using your example if you go to a cashier and tell them to lose 20 pounds that would be harassment and discrimination (because it has no bearing of job performance as was never discussed in job interviews) and would be illegal. The same would be true if the coaching staff was trying to force Jerry to lose more weight than his agreed upon playing weight.

As an employer you demand an employee maintain a certain level of performance. In the case of Jerry or an athlete it would be keeping their body in shape. In the case of a cashier at a department store maybe that cashier has to sell extended warranties on 70% of all purchases and if that cashiers stats fall below 70% they get "punished" by not being scheduled for as many hours.

    THAT's the correct analogy.

And what conclusion do you draw from that information?

That all of this was an elaborate plan by Martin to quit football and continued to get a paid. The long con.

IMO, martin never wanted to play football, and this is just a payday for him to sue the NFL.

I personally think his parents and agent are behind the majority of this.

    No.

I think what we have is Martin has depression. He was fine, until he got demoted. That sunk him deeper into his depression, and when the guys played a joke on him he flipped. His agents and parents are now trying to get money from the team by getting him put on IR instead of NFI. Ritchie was asked to toughen him up during the offseason. They didn't ask him to use the n-word. Martin saved the texts because they were funny and not serious. Saving them ended up being a "happy accident" for Martin's camp. I think because Martin's camp was the first to report this, they set the narrative.

Yep, that's why he's played football for a decade. All a long-term plan to get a few hundred thousand to a couple million bucks out of the NFL by playing the percentages that only 1% of high school players are likely to make the NCAA, and 1% of them to make the NFL. It's mathematical genius expected of two Harvard lawyers and a Stanford grad.

Lol, it was kind of a tongue-in-cheek statement. You can come up with 5,000 examples as to how a football practice field and locker room are different and have different "unwritten rules" than working at the local shoe store. Not all of them are going to be found in their contracts.

I am sorry, that is not "****ing stupid," it is the truth. Everyone disagrees on message boards, but 51 other guys inside that locker room see it another way. I will go with the guys who saw it firsthand.

who's making fun of Martin's "medical condition"? Do you even know what his goddam condition is BTW, or are you just randomly acting all high and mighty here?

And why the hell should I or anyone else have to treat Martin with respect after the crap he pulled? What, just b/c he supposedly has "mental issues"?! GTHO here with this sanctimonious bull****. Must be nice to live in your fantasy world where anyone with a mental condition gets a free pass at life and isn't held accountable for his actions. I have Asperger's & mild Tourette's so spare me your worthless diatribe that insinuates I'm a terrible person who's insensitive toward those with mental/psychological/physical conditions. You would NEVER see me selfishly put myself in a position where my condition could put others at risk, and I sure as sh-t wouldn't use my condition as an excuse to ruin the lives of others.

Martin was a soft p***y, period. I don't give a crap if he has a condition that caused him to be that way or not b/c he disregarded his condition and CHOSE to enter the NFL, which, outside of the military, is probably THE WORST profession for a soft p***y with mental instability to enter, and it's not like that's some major revelation either. He went to goddam Stanford and could've chosen a more appropriate career in law for a big wuss like himself, but he didn't, so excuse me if a I don't defend him till death and throw him a giant waaa party like you are.

So you're saying if I owned a Hooters I could instill a weight clause in contracts that says I can terminate waitresses that exceed 125 pounds b/c a restaurant full of fatties would hinder its overall performance?

If I owned a Hooters franchise there would be some kind of clause in that vein because let's face it honestly, what guy goes to Hooters strictly for the food?
