The team would have to pay him I believe. Placing him on the NFI list means the team doesn't have to pay him.
I personally as a fan do not want Martin . This whole thing should have been an internal Team matter. Taking it to your mommy and daddy who then go public with it is just unbelievable. Then Ireland needs to be fired for not seeing what a kook J Martin was during the drafting process.
Yesterday the team clearly spoke up and supported Incognito, they dont want Martin back, I dont want Martin back. They should cut Martin if they cut Incognito but I feel they will tuck their tail and do the politically correct thing, send him for help bla bla bla.
Oh yeah......They will definitely not cut him. Injured reserve, injury settlement eventually. Big Baby will never play again. No man code whatsoever. The Dolphins need to send his settlement check in a douche container.
I think the team also supports Jonathan Martin. But they're very much viewing this through the lens of him going through mentall illness issues. In their mind, that's how this is OK. They wish him the best on that basis. And on that basis, there is the potential for him to return to the team. But the more effort that gets made to make this a bullying situation with Incognito, rather than a mentall illness situation with Martin going through something that he needs to come out the other side of, the less they're going to understand and accept him. The Dolphins meanwhile are not nearly dumb enough to cut him. If anything I think they look to trade him for a bag of rocks in the off season on the premise that he just needs a change of scenery. Possibly to a California team.
If he was any good at his job then I wouldn't have said it, he sucks at football and should just be a lawyer like his parents.
Is it actually Martin's parents, or his agent that is feeding info to the media on Martin's behalf? Agree that the Dolphins are in full PR crisis mode at this point. Cutting Martin will not happen, but I would be surprised if he ever plays again or even practices for the Dolphins. Trade him to who? San Diego? They are the only west coast team who are perceived as soft enough that he might have a chance. 9ers, and Raiders won't touch him. Seahawks OLine sucks, so maybe there is an opportunity there, but I doubt it.
You probably can't just cut him. It would be another public relations nightmare by being/looking incredibly harsh and unsympathetic to his issues. Chris is correct. You probably wait until after the season and trade him if you can with the idea that he needs a change of scenery.
How well he performs is not at all material to the conversation at hand. You can't fire someone in retaliation for a grievance against their employer, and I'm not sure what the **** planet you're on where that makes any sense.
Some of the players on the team certainly came out in support of Incognito. That will probably be irrelevant as far as Ross and the rest of the FO are concerned. I believe that both Icognito and Martin have played their last games in a Dolphin uniform. Fair or not, once a situation like this explodes in the media, the organization is put into a situation that the best thing to do ends up to be cutting ties with both these players. I doubt if Martin will continue in the NFL with Dolphins or any other NFL team. He will eventually get some type of financial settlement with the Dolphins and will probably go on to be a lawyer. It has already been reported by several media sources that Incognito will not be returning to the Dolphins. It appears that it is only a matter of paperwork and Incognito will become a free agent in the very near future.
He's gone now..... give it time. He's already caused the team enough problems, let him sit on dads couch watching ESPN for the time being. It'll simmer and the consequences to his actions will build and build. I think its more likely Richie plays again than he does. We can blast him all we want for a voicemail transcript, and portray him as some vicious racist while his black friends defend him...... but Martin is the quitting backstabber in hideout right now. This situation came to a head when Martin was pulled from his natural position, signaling that the coaches took issue with his performance. Richie is taking the fall so the Martins can justify their sons actions and have something to hold against the team. Unfortunately the majority is too blind and brainwashed to understand this situation beyond what they're told. Martin is sooo done here.
Would be interesting to see the response here if we cut Martin then the guy goes on to be a top tier LT on a team that actually knows how to develop players.
No but that'll be a good one..... lawyers are paid to defend someone, right or wrong, and attack all detractors to the fullest extent. On that Dez topic.... isnt it customary to inquire about relatives criminal history when interviewing for certain jobs? My bro's applying to be a cop, they want to know my criminal history (none btw). Facts are that Dez's mom was arrested for prostitution...... Sorry Dez, that was her decision. He most likely didnt respond well, and thats a good indicator to his personality.
I doubt that is something the Dolphins will have to worry about in regards to Ireland. I don't see him being the GM after this season is over.
well..it has to be said..... IF (still a If..but I think we have a good idea) Jon Martin is preparing the "field" for a lawsuit and is trying to collect for not playing...you MUST take action. You cannot set this precedent.
Why not? What exactly is the precedent being set here? That guys might be able to trade their reputation and career for a potential lawsuit that anyone in any other field would be able to bring?
No. That they can sit out for a grievance and claim that it is football related when it is probably not.
Stop. There are a bunch of players that have developed here. Clay, Hartline, Jones, Wake, Odrick, Vernon, Starks, even Egnew now. That's just naming a few.
Welker, and just as many other players I could name if I wasn't so old and memory failing. Sitting at cable co. now so can't look them up but just as many we failed to develop have moved on to turn into good players on other teams.
