Link I found this interesting. It seems like there's always one of their names mentioned when discussing one of the two.
I think it's because they are both alum of the University of Texas, and both runningbacks. At a school that is fabled for runningbacks like Earl Cambell and Ricky Williams, I think that's a brotherhood. I have even seen footage of some sort of gathering last summer at U. of Texas where Campbell, Williams and other former Longhorns all showed up. So,I think he and Benson see each other once in awhile PLUS share a sacred bond, type of thing. I could be wrong. lol. Bpk
Well if anyone would know about having legal troubles during a football career...its Ricky. He's the expert.
I agree with Ricky. I think someone will pick up Benson, especially after his troubles pass a little. I still think benson has been viewed in a bad slant of light. Watching any bears games is quite easy to see benson had nowhere near the support of that team that Jones.. or peterson did when they were on the field. I think if anything, this boot from the bears, and his legal troubles will get Cedric to give his head a shake, straighten himself out and work hard towards playing in the nfl as he was capable of.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing Benson in Miami if he came on the cheap. He's a real boom or bust prospect. But as one player mentioned he didn't have the support of the Bears. He didn't get along with his teammates. And he simply didn't get nowhere near the quality of blocking last year that Thomas Jones got in the Bears Super Bowl season. I think that being on a team with Ricky Williams who is a close friend will help him out a lot. Possibly be a more agreeable guy. And we all know the kid has talent. Besides having Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams and Cedric Benson will ensure we have a capable runner on the field and wont have to go with Patrick Cobbs or Samkon Gado again this year.
I have to disagree. I think the Bears coaching staff gave Benson everything they could and he just never produced. As far support of the team, you have to earn that support as a player otherwise you're not going to get it in return. His biggest concern right now is getting his legal issues resolved and growing up a little bit. I think he may have come out of college thinking that because he had such a great college career that he would automatically become a great pro. I think he forgot that you have to work for success like he did in school, but hasn't figured out that he has to do it in the pros as well. With all that said, if he gets his head screwed on right as a backup to Ronnie Brown, I'd take that any day of the week. Although I doubt seriously if he ends up here. Note: if Brown stumbles with his rehab, all bets are off.
Yeah thats probably true. My brother is a big bears fan. So I saw quite a bit of Bears games too, and it was so strange, Thomas Jones is in, and has a hole the size of lake michigan to run through, then Benson is in, and he's being drilled in the backfield over, and over in the backfield. Seeing that, combined with those few articles posted a while back about nobody on the team ever liking him, leads me to believe that led to his downfall. Benson himself is still in good shape, still fast, still strong, he's going to be a good back somewhere else. Bottom like though, is like you said, maybe when he got there, he had that attitude, that he didnt have to do anything and it was going to be a walk in the park for him and maybe thats why the team didnt like him and want to play hard for him... who knows really. Either way at the end of the day, he didnt have the stats youd expect from a player drafted in his position and he's out of Chicago. Just think he's going to get a job somewhere, and surprise some people though
Ricky Williams would be the right person to tell some that they can turn there career around I guess.
Ricky hasnt really done anything yet though. He played 6 plays, got hurt, and has attended OTA's this offseason... If he finishes the season without any trouble(which as of right now looks like a good possibility) then i'd let him start talking about turning things around.
If I remember correctly Benson was a big Ricky fan and a lot of people were comparing his running style to Ricky's. I believe they both went to Texas. Benson being a few years younger might have been the next 1 in line after Ricky.
