Does Thigpen look less potent on kickoff returns this year? Couldn't find his stats for returning, but he seems to be running into the backs of the blockers. Is it him or the players on special teams?

I don't think he's used to carrying the full load. Last year, Davone Bess handled about half the kick offs and punt returns.

This will be unpopular but he's done nothing in weeks. I'm beginning to question his roster spot. His best play this season was the 50 yard reception against the saints. Which also wasn't a kick return, what he's currently on the roster to do. I'll admit he hasn't dropped one yet, so that's nice...

Never been a big fan. I always feel like he's about to make a mistake and cost us a game. Honestly, I hold my breath when he is returning punts/kicks.

I love me some Thigpen. I admit that he has not produced on returns. I understand that is why he is on this team. He seems to be working hard. I believe that he has a lot of talent and wants to see what he has in the slot.

I don't really understand the love some have for Thigpen. Potential maybe? I'm scared everytime the guy gets his hands on the ball With the dropsies he had a while back...although its been good as of late. But really.. fumbles.. a ton of underwhelming punt returns and sub 20 yd kick off returns. .. meh

He's no Devin Hester. IMO, he's someone that will break it open once or twice a year, so we have to be patient. He doesn't drop the ball and he gives you a chance for a return TD once or twice a year. I forget the actual number, but teams that have a return TD or defensive TD have a much greater chance of winning the game. If he pops for one return TD, he's worth keeping.

We can always attempt to upgrade later rounds of the draft. Especially if he isn't getting any run as a RB.

I'd rather see him take a knee when he gets it in the endzone at the first of games ( find myself yelling at him DON"T BRING IT OUT, TAKE A KNEE) and not attempt the run back until D's get a little winded further into games.

This makes me think about the kickoff return for a touchdown, punt return for a touchdown last year, how everybody loved and now suddenly he's trash? Seems like its likely poor blocking, coaching, and maybe he's being too careful not dropping the rock. Combo of all three I think.

you don't even have to go that far, most of this board hates this team, when its 0-0 in the first quarter

Pretty kneejerk exaggeration to say that everyone loved him after those tds. The biggest problem is the consistency. He is the definition of inconsistent and underwhelming. Another thing I didnt think of until just now is his choice of when to call fair catch or take it and go. He shows poor decision making at times there. I don't hate the guy. Wouldnt mind them using him in other situations, but I think its a mistake to use him as an exclusive return guy

Wonder if he could be beneficial as a slot receiver now and then. I'm still holding out on him because Pads told me to, I think he might have some game in him yet.

Agree on two points: 1. Decision making and 2. We should put him in the slot or other open field situations, kind of like how the Saints used Reggie Bush.
As for knee jerk, I've been hanging around this site since 2007, and I distinctly remember Thiggy was pretty popular last season after the two run back TD's, wouldn't call that knee jerk, but to each his own opinion. People were even calling for him to completely replace Bess on returns IIRC

I've been talking with pod about it in another thread, he's #15 in kickoff return..#27 in punt return...

I think his speed can sometimes flash and be confused with real return ability when in reality the vision and instincts seem poor..he may give you that breakaway once in a while, ( hasn't happened all season) but I'm ready to move on this offseason..

Great returners make their decisions way before the get to the wall as to where their gonna run, Thigpen is running like a running back approaching the Los...you can't stutter, or slow down in any way shape or form, and he is hardly ever running and cutting at full speed.

He did put us in postion to almost beat the bills at the end of the game.Of course typically a former dolphin prevented the TD by pushing him out of bounds.
