What a surprise, a former Cowboy: "We hear the Dolphins are among several teams that have called about four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jay Ratliff, who was released by Dallas and hasn’t played this season because of sports hernia surgery. Ratliff, 32, hopes to meet with teams within a couple of weeks and the Dolphins are among teams that interest him. He hopes to play this season, but it's not determined if he will. He has been cleared medically to resume football activities." Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...hins-canes-marlins-chatter.html#storylink=cpy
At his age and in his injury condition, think of this along the same lines as the Marvin Austin thing. The Dolphins lost Vaughn Martin and had to pick up Austin in his place. They didn't like Marvin, cut him, and now Isaako Aaitui is out there playing snaps. I think all things being equal they'd rather see about Jay Ratliff playing some snaps instead of Isaako Aaitui.
He's made the pro bowl 2 more times since then. He's certainly the best DT option available. I wish we would resign Starks and Soliai though. We could still have Ratliff as depth.
I like Jay Ratliff a lot, and I think he's still a good player that Miami should definitely be interested in. It's doubtful he's a long-term solution, but I think he gives you flexibility to transition from Soliai and use a different style of 1-technique.
This team has become a retirement home for Cowboy players on the decline or who are done.We dont need any more dead weight IMO.
see, I would normally say something along the lines of..."can he play offensive line?" but given the last few weeks and our interior d line not playing up to their capability, this isn't the time for jokes.
I wouldn't dismiss him out of hand just because he has links to Jeff. If he's healthy he could be a useful part.
I thought he was a an elite player a few years ago, one of my favs...if we lose Randy I'll take him if he's healthy and those injuries check out long term.
why don't we add a tightend or two because they block and our oline is bad I say we fix the oline with a bunch of out of work olinemen just to save face.
He's reportedly had some off the field issues going on lately. Dallas fans out here could not wait to be rid of him, and that is with them being pretty thin on DL. And that isn't even getting into him not being the player he was 2-3 years ago. Would be wary - I am just not sure it is a needed move.
Better idea: Let's NOT explore any and every opportunity to improve the team, since we're already super good and borderline unbeatable already.
Adam Caplan âś” @caplannfl Ratliff not only visited the #Dolphins, but worked out for the team. Well they went and worked him out, figure if they wanted to add a guy and get him up to speed now would be the time with a long break btw games.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Bengals have "reached out" to free agent DT Jay Ratliff. Ratliff is still a few weeks away from being ready to play as he recovers from a hamstring injury and sports hernia surgery, but Rapoport reports the "door is open" in Cincinnati. Ratliff may not be able to contribute until around Thanksgiving. The Bengals need help after losing Geno Atkins to a torn ACL. You're not going to replace Atkins, but the Bengals can sure try.
Do you understand that just because we have a need, it doesn't mean there's a player out there that can solve it? Do you also understand that we are capable of multitasking and can actually target more than one player at a time?
Bears signed DT Jay Ratliff to a one-year contract. Ratliff was released by the Cowboys last month and is still recovering from a hamstring injury and sports hernia surgery. He likely won't be able to play for another 2-4 weeks, but will serve as a much needed upgrade at defensive tackle with Henry Melton out for the season. Ratliff also drew interest from the Bengals, Dolphins, and Chiefs before deciding to sign with the Bears. Source: Ed Werder on Twitte
He's 2-4 weeks away from playing apparently. Supposedly the reason the Bengals didn't go harder after him. Likely the same for us. - sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 beta -
Plus I doubt they saw him being here in 2014. I tend to think they are looking for insurance if and when we lose Starks and Paul S.
