I'm not trying to get controversial. This is purely a straw poll. I've been curious as to what exactly will push fans to the brink, what will push them over the edge, etc. I simply ask the question, from the perspective of getting into the playoffs and then trying to go on a run, is the season over? The Dolphins have lost four straight games. They're 3-4 and now face a 6-2 Bengals squad that just thoroughly abused the New York Jets. Both teams will have a short week. Road teams off a short week tend to do poorly, but then again the Bengals seem a pretty strong team this year while Miami.... Brandon Gibson is gone for the year. It's hard to say the team's reaction to the Pouncey investigation. They will probably continue to play him for as long as the league allows. So I'm just asking the question. Is hope alive? Or is it dead? I'm making the poll anonymous.
I like this system. I see that it offers tons of opportunities. I've seen many systems come through Miami and they struggled creating opportunities. That is not the case here. We don't have a QB, and that is acceptable. Sometime you miss. sometimes you miss many times. But the system is good. There is a tendency to go shootgun a little too much. It reminds me of Hasselback who would throw out of shotgun 45-50 times a game and keep failing. I do not like that. I think it's bad. I am OK with keeping Philbin and even Ireland, as long as he does not go Oline or D in the first round. We missed in free agency big time with Wallace, Wheeler, Clabo, and the team is still competitive. I think this team is overall the best we've had in a decade, except for a QB. Pennington was better. That is good. I would be OK with changing the system and the FO if Coughlin becomes available. I would not change the FO otherwise.
I thought it was over after losing to Thad Lewis led Bills with no running backs, at home, coming off a bye. You can't lose that game. and we did.... Whats the deal with this Pouncey stuff?!? First I am hearing about this? Should we be worried?
Them or us? Yeah it's over. There are quite a few posters more concerned with their own fandom than the season. We are at the point now where apathy is less of a choice than a necessary coping mechanism. The only way to root for this team is to not really give a **** about it. That's where we are. I'm not going to stop being a fan, but I don't think Sunday Ticket is in my future next year
We have no shot at the playoffs and even if we do, would it really matter? One and done is just as bad as making the playoffs.
Losing Gibson hurts like hell. BUT the run game has been encouraging, as was McKinnie for the most part. I still have some hope that Wallace will come around and win us a game or two. I also believe that this Patriots defense is weak as hell because of injury, and will cost the Pats a game or two. We'll be in the race all the way to the season's end, imo. Still get another shot at the Pats (must-win, obviously), two with Jets, one with Buffalo. I think we could win 4 if not 5. We played a damn good half today then let it slip away. But that first half did happen...we are capable. Cincy's roster is far better than ours all around, imo. But Dalton is still a green, inconsistent QB who could easily toss up an awful game on the road on a short week. Limit easy throws to Gio and Eifert, make him beat you on the perimeter. To win I think we'll need at least one quick-strike score from Wallace. Also: the staff hasn't run Miller much when we're behind, but I think that's a viable option given he's been our most explosive weapon and it'd keep the pass rush off a bit. He's not a traditional grind-out-the-lead RB.
We win Thursday. We are so close. Matthews will step in for Gibson. Wallace will hit his stride with Tannehill. We have a VERY favorable schedule remaining. Wake needs to "wake" up and get healthy. We're good.
I'm still a Dolphins fan, but I've lost so much intrest in the NFL over the past several years by the direction of the way the league is going. It's not a fun sport to watch anymore. I didn't watch last years Super Bowl because I just didn't have a interest in it.
No schedule for Miami is favorable imho, every game will be a test including Tampa and the remainder of the division games.
No but I'll change my mind if we lose this Thursday. We have to enter the second half of the season at .500 for us to have a chance at making the playoffs.
When our offense consist of throwing sideline passes either right or left, and then watching D Thomas stand there watching Tanny get up off the floor, cause he is just to dumb, blind or doesn't want to get dirty, then umm yeah. We is done...
There are still significant sources of hidden value to unlock in my opinion. They STARTED to unlock one of those today with Lamar Miller and the ground game. They featured him and I thought he had a hell of a day running the ball. The Dolphins ran the football 22 times and only called 18 pass plays in the first half. In the second half they ran the ball only 7 times, calling 16 pass plays...and that was BEFORE the team got down by 10 points. From that point on it was 1 run to 15 passes, but that doesn't matter. You get down 10 points with only 7 minutes remaining in the game, you're going to pass the ball a lot. Not worried about it. More worried about the fact that in the second half they switched to throwing the football 70% of the time again even though the scoreboard didn't dictate it. The other source of hidden value to unlock will be when they get Dion Jordan on the field more. I think he can make game-changing plays. Despite Mike Wallace not even being worth a quarter of what they paid him (so far), I have to think he still represents a significant source of unlockable value when he and Tannehill finally get on the same page. Maybe it just takes time. Maybe one game it'll just click and that will be that. I think we saw improvement out of the offensive tackles today between McKinnnie and Martin. Part of that IMO was that Martin actually has a history of doing well against Rob Ninkovich. But McKinnie had a TOUGH draw in Chandler Jones, and he kept him pretty well blocked for most of the game. There were miscommunication snafus that you expect to get ironed out as he practices. So there are definitely potential sources of upside for the second half of the season. The downside is going to come from age and injuries. We just experienced a big one with Brandon Gibson. There are other guys on roster who are maybe a little bit long in the tooth (e.g. Randy Starks) and they could start to slow down in the second half of the year.
I think the season is over. I don't see how we make the playoffs in a loaded conference. I think we will win 3 maybe 4 more games but I don't see much more after that. The team in general just has a very defeated attitude about them.
Last year at this point: 4-3. Doesn't mean much, but its a surprise. How can anyone trust this team? It's the same team we've been watching for 5 straight seasons. I mean I don't trust the Chargers, Jets, Raiders and Ravens either and someone has to get the 6th seed, but I'd certainly take the Ravens experience (and they already beat us) even though I think they're just as mediocre as we are this season. Chargers aren't much better but I still trust them way more than Miami to get to 9-7 which is probably going to be the record of the 6th seed.
I agree with you about Lamar Miller who I thought had his best game by far of the year. I really would like to see more of Dion Jordan because the guy has been making plays when he does get the chance such as the Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco picks that he forced. I also thought McKinnie did a pretty good job today. Before the 4th quarter I thought the oline had its best day of the year.
Gibson was playing really well this year...it's a huge loss. However, I think Rishard Matthews is a beast. If they actually incorporate him into the gameplan, he will do very well. Extremely physical, has the best hands on the team, and a good route runner. Him and Egnew should be brought into the gameplan.
As far as the playoffs go, we are def fighting for the 6th seed. Baring a colossal choke the pats are winning the division and second place between the broncos chiefs are winning the 5[SUP]th[/SUP] spot. Right now there are just too many teams competing for that final spot. Honestly every team expect the Jaguars can still win it.
If we win Thursday we roar back into the conversation. Too bad the Bengals have the best pass rushing line in football that can also play the run. I say we win though. We don't ever have any business beating the Bengals but hey, we keep doing it. Sent from my GT-P3110 using Tapatalk
I know we have lost 4 games in a row, but I still believe we have plenty of talent on this roster. The things you just mentioned give me hope that maybe, just maybe, the team will start utilizing their playmakers more and execute better.
In a technical/mathematical sense, no. But you can team's spirit and fire is gone, and there is too many problems that can't be fixed in the short run.
6. San Diego Chargers, 4-3 7. New York Jets, 4-4 8. Tennessee Titans, 3-4 9. Baltimore Ravens, 3-4 10. Miami Dolphins, 3-4 11. Oakland Raiders, 3-4 12. Cleveland Browns, 3-5 13. Buffalo Bills, 3-5 When you look at our remaining schedule, I don't think there is a single game that is not winnable. The Cincinnati game is at home which will help a lot plus they're a very good but often inconsistent team. I could see them coming out flat considering the circumstances of it being a Thursday game after dismantling the Jets. We play at Tampa Bay which is a game we should win. I think the Chargers and Panthers games are very interesting because they are very similar with their hot and cold style of play. They can be good but also can be bad (kinda like the team we all love). Both these games will be at home which should help us. Then we play the Jets twice, the Steelers in Pittsburgh, the Patriots at home, and the Bills in Buffalo. I think the schedule is favorable with every game being pretty winnable (ie, we aren't playing the Broncos). Hopefully the Dolphins come out swinging against Cincinnati because they have to be .500 by week 10 to make the playoffs this season. Have to.
Just some food for thought, but Cincinnati was actually one of the few (2, I believe) road teams to win on Thursday night last year (I think Indy was the other, as they beat Jacksonville). They came off a disappointing home loss to Dallas, 20-19 - they lost on a last minute field goal IIRC, packed up and then beat Philadelphia 34-13.
I'm not seeing any unwinnable games left on the schedule but then again, the only unwinnable game I saw on the schedule to begin with was the New Orleans MNF game. The Dolphins play the Jets twice, the Patriots and Bills once each, the Steelers, Bengals, Buccaneers, Panthers and Chargers. None of those games are unwinnable, but based on how each of the above teams is playing including Miami, you would have to say say the only unlosable game would be the Bucs game. And even that could be losable if the Bucs make a coaching change.
Don't you think they could be coming off an emotional 'high' after beating the Jets so badly? Plus they got the Ravens coming up after us so I could see them somewhat overlooking us because we've lost four straight.
The records of the Dolphins remaining games in descending order are: 6-2, 6-2, 4-3, 4-3, 4-4, 4-4, 3-5, 2-5, 0-7. The Dolphins are 3-4. Based purely on the records you'd expect a 5-11 or 6-10 result.
hey I have to ask this but is Steve Ross happy I mean he spent a lot of money and losing to two divisional rivials cant make him too happy . if the stadium keeps looking worse wont Ross have to take note /? I wonder what happens if we go 8-8 or worse will there be any changes. I know nobody will get canned if we win 9 wins but what happens f we only only win 6 games ?
Not counting Week 1 (since it wasn't really a short week, being the first game of the season and all), the home teams are only 3-4 this year on Thursday Night Football. That's kind of odd. Seahawks traveled and beat the Cardinals. The 49ers traveled and beat the Rams. The Chiefs traveled and beat the Eagles. The Panthers traveled and beat the Buccaneers. Very odd.
Maybe, they had Josh Johnson out there gallivanting around for most of the 4th quarter today. Marvin Lewis seems to have them pretty dialed in this year, other than that game they had in Cleveland; though that was more Andy Dalton sucking than them not being prepared. They did get banged up today though. Rey Maualuga, Taylor Mays, and Andrew Whitworth all got dinged. I know Maualuga did not come back in; unsure of the other two. Mays isn't a starter any more for them though, so I don't think that's much of a big deal. The Bengals did recently sign Michael Boley, so that may come in handy as I think today they moved Vontaze Burfict (leading the NFL in tackles) to MLB and Boley came in at WLB. I'm not sure what happened to Whitworth, but if he misses time, that's something Miami can exploit. Anthony Collins is the top backup. All I know is if Miami loses, the office and most of my friends are going to be unbearable for the next 10 days. And I've not really done any trash-talking since Miami beat Indianapolis. Bengals fans are TERRIBLE when they're winning or losing.
Yep. Time to blow it up. No reason to keep continuity together when your looking at 5 STRAIGHT LOSING SEASONS.
