Prepare to be totally disgusted then. I think it is far more likely this team will end up with 10 losses than 10 wins this season. Other than the game against Tampa Bay, I don't see any other game on their schedule where any Dolphin fan can honestly feel that a victory looks assured. In fact since the Bucs are another Florida team and they will be up at home against the Dolphins, even that game isn't a sure win for this Dolphin team. I thought this was an 8-8 or 7-9 team prior to the start of the season. I was fooled like most Dolphin fans by their 3-0 start and I thought after those three games that 9 or 10 wins were very possible. Now that we have seen more games by this very flawed team. I think 6 or 7 wins is about the most we can expect this season.
The good news is the leaves are dropping from the trees, so I have something to keep my Sundays busy.
This is the problem in todays NFL...any pop warner kid should know not to touch that ball. The funny thing is if he hadnt I think it woulda gone even further. The IQs and football IQs are waaaaaaay down. Some of these guys dont even know the most basic rules. How the hell the get to this level is beyond me. I suppose its off their athleticism. But thats another thing. Philip Wheeler is probably 10x the athelete Zach Thomas was but 54's instincts and football IQ make him a HOF'er while Wheeler is garbage. Stop going so much combine and numbers and draft FOOTBALL players.
How many of you think a 8 & 8 record puts Philbin and Ireland firmly on the hotseat? How many of you expect change if the record is worse than that?
I never thought after following the Dolphins prior to 2000 that we would see such lean times. The long run of bad hirings, personnel decisions, and everything in between was somewhat depicted in the stands on Sunday. Lots of empty seats. The fall has been hard for this franchise, and it doesn't seem to be getting itself out of the muck. I am struggling to pull for this team anymore. How long can you pull for stupid? (I have been a fan of this team for over 40 years so I am no fair weather fan here).
I think anything short of the playoffs puts them on the hot seat. 8-8 to me is no great accomplishment. So much of it depends on RT. If he plays well, but is betrayed by the o-line, I could see everybody get another year to try and fix it and then see what happens. If RT continues to be a turnover machine and we finish 7-9 or worse, I could see everybody go and then we "Wince for Winston" next year.
8-8 should put Ireland on the hot seat, as well as Sherman and Coyle. Worse than that should put everyone on it, including Philbin.
There is a gray area at 9 or 10 wins that might save him his job, but other than that, it's playoffs or bust for him. Ross gave Ireland the same one year extension that he gave Sparano before Sparano failed and was fired.
Oh I bet Ireland can swing a massive trade to go along with this and make him look even more like a genius and get Henne for a 2nd round pick..
Certainly Ireland would be gone and then Philbin's future is very much up in the air with a new GM coming in. At 8 and 8 I'd like to see Philbin given another chance but he has to know that aligning with Sherman (and Turner) for the long term (beyond this season) could be a problem for him. A HC should be given three years unless they really screw up. The potential for the new GM to be promoted from within (either Aponte or Gaine) is high IF Ross is still the owner.
How about trading for Wade Smith.. Houston is obviously having a fire sale and I don't think he would be expensive.
Interesting. Could be worth a look. Would kind of spell doom for Michael Egnew because Scheffler does what Egnew is supposed to do. Then again, in my opinion Egnew has been better at doing the stuff Dion Sims is supposed to be better at doing.
I don't believe in changes if your team shows an improved win total in the staffs 2nd year from their first year..
8-8 and Ireland should be out of here. I suspect that the next GM will probably want to hire his own HC, but Ross might convince the next GM to give Philbin at least one more year to show what he can do with a little more experience as a HC. I would suspect that if Philbin was retained, the new GM and probably Ross would demand a major shakeup at the assistant coach positions.
Smith is a good underrated LG. If you put him at LG with Incognito at RG, you've taken some major steps in addressing the problem.
Ten losses...jesus dude...I know people are negative..but damn..we didnt have ten losses last season and we were worse We could very easily be 5-1 with our craptastic line the way it is. Seriously..think about that for a second. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
I'd want to focus on all Egnew's snaps to be sure, but it seems like his blocking has taken a big step. I think we see more of Sims once the Oline improves. Strange to say.
Yeah he's decent, puts Jerry on the bench. It's farfetched though, never do random scenarios work out but if we can get someone of that caliber for a low round draft pick, it would be a nice bandaid and would give Tannehill an extra second.
So both Justin Blackmon and Josh Gordon are on the block. Figures... the year we FINALLY upgrade at receiver, other options become available. Of course each one is set in stage 3 drug program where another suspension gets them a year... but still. The Pats will probably acquire one of them for a 4th rounder. The Ravens will probably acquire the other for a 3rd.
Wouldn't be surprised if the Dolphins have already kicked the tires on one of them and might be about to kick the tires on the other. I don't think Joe Philbin is very happy with Mike Wallace.
I miss that cat , and if our oline is so bad then why in hell cant we add two tightends as stop gap measure I would welcome back Rmac and Donald Lee if healthy.
saw a quote this morning that made me laugh... BB says there is "way, way less" trade talk around the trading deadline than there is the 53/75 man cutdowns. We all know he is full of it. I bet they are looking at adding at least a big name wide receiver.
I say hell no to Javorski Lane its bad enough we have Sherman and are becoming what A&M was so Lane wouldn't be the answer . I rather have Polite back or add a tightend who is a great pass blocker.
A little surprised we have not seen more of him. He seemed to really handle that TD situation smoothly considering the pressure that was on. If he can be that cool, collected and sure handed in the final seconds of a game seems like maybe he earns the right to a few more snaps in a receiving role. Big target.
Curious why? Think a Mike Wallace for Greg Jennings is logical? Maybe throw in Matt Moore (assuming a FA QB could be found) to offset Mike W huge contract. thoughts?
Didn't we say something similar to that last year especially for those games Carp choked on? -Sent from my TMO Samsung Galaxy Note 3 using Tapatalk
I don't even know if it's attitude stuff so much as the threat of one year suspension hanging over his head.
If we could find a way to pull off a trade for Justin Blackmon, I think we'd have just about the best WR corps in the entire NFL. Of course, that wouldn't matter because Tannehill wouldn't have any time to throw, but it's nice to imagine.
I tend to lump that in with attitude. With a good attitude, he would change his life and never eat anything processed just in case it contains a banned substance.
