It makes sense to trade for Gross as he's played well at both LT and RT throughout his career.

Exactly! I have no faith in Ireland's ability to draft any position on offense. Let's just spend the pick for a proven o-lineman that is merely above average. I'm serious. I'm so sick of drafting guys like Jon Martin, Jerry Gardener, Shawn Murphy....

Pretty much. Although the gripe with Vernon isn't that he's a bad overall football player, it's that even coming out of college he was clearly not a pass rush specialist yet that was what they made him into as a rookie.

And I think you meant spending a year trying to figure out if Jared Odrick was a DE rather than a DT. That one still burns me. They're so much higher impact right now than they were a year ago, all three of them. But no they had to be able to get the most possible snaps out of them. Less has been more. By rotating them, they've all been fresh and they all keep making plays.

MJD can pass protect and get short yardage, that might be all they are looking for. Lamar ad DT don't seem to get yards after contact. I'd trade for MJD, he might get a new lease on life playing for a good team. Jags gotta be thinking ahead to the draft.

The one good thing for Miami in 2014 is that they have the top positions locked up aside from their line. If they're successful in getting back their guys really this is the spot that's the problem for Miami. You can go into the draft thinking, I'll drop from say 20-22 to 30-32 and recoup whatever picks I give up for linemen. At the same time I'll protect my QB. The problem eventually becomes cash but really there are places to save if need be. You can probably find a replacement for Clemons. There are plenty of average to above average guys you can replace without huge problems. You can't replace Tannehill.

A 3rd for Peters, a 5th for Gross, and a swap of a 4th for a 6th for Barbre? Then drop down in the draft to recoup those picks.

Isn't that part of the problem with trading for an outside back as well then? They have their heads up their asses about trusting the guys on staff being able to execute, and they expect that they're going to trade for someone in the middle of the year, midway through the last week of a bye and expect that guy to come in and pick everything up and start kicking ***?

I think I would offer a draft pick for a consultant who can pick a serviceable O-Lineman outside of the first round!

Its so funny living in one football city and rooting for a team in another. Seeing a player and how hes looked at from two different perspectives.....

dolfans want us trading for Jordan Gross.....Panther fans (here in Charlotte) want him gone 2 seasons ago.

    "Hes lost a step"

    "hes weak"

    "cant block speed rushers"

    "cant run block"

    "too old"

    "not worth the money"

    etc etc

By all means though, Dolfans.....keep begging for another team worse than us' garbage....its always worked out in the past :eyeroll:

He's played really well this year. Also we want him to play RT not LT. My suspicion is that if there is an impending trade, it's at guard not tackle.

I'd rather have Michael Roos over Gross and MDJ at this point. I think he provides some stability at left tackle and you could move Jonathan Martin back to the right side. If anything, it at least buys you a couple years with a savvy vet protecting Tannehill's blindside and you can focus the resources in the upcoming offseason to filling some of the gaps we're likely to see on the defensive side of the ball. After all, Soliai, Starks, Grimes, Clemons, Carroll, and I believe Derrick Shelby are all free agents at season's end. Jared Odrick's rookie deal is also running out fairly soon.

It might sound bleak now, but I could foresee an O-line of (from left to right) Roos - Thomas - Pouncey - Incognito/Watkins/Jerry - Martin lining up in 2014.

I think MJD's dip in YPC may be more attributed to just how bad the Jags offense is, and that no one really respects their passing game (as opposed to a lingering injury). I'd sure as hell be willing to take a chance on him if he could be gotten for a reasonable price. And, you know they have to be taking offers. They need all the picks they can get for 2014. Besides, the rumors started that Jax was looking to deal him before rumors started that we were (potentially) looking for a RB.

Barbre from everything I've read and his size reminds me of Mark Dixon, not just in his ability to play a number of spots but really in terms of his coming on late in his career. I'd love to see him as the team's LG, with Incognito at RG.

OV has been playing better lately. That makes the move of Odrick look even better. After two negative rating games to open the season, OV has had positive ratings the last 3, according to PFF. He is tied for 10th among the 4-3 DE in QB hurries with 15.

The notion that Tennessee would trade Roos seems ridiculous to me. They are a game out of first in their division. Very much in the hunt.

Where does he rate in terms of run-defending? Just curious. I'd imagine he had a pretty solid grade vs. the run from the Baltimore game.

problem with that is that no matter how good Pouncey is he cant do it by himself. Incognito nor JJ are able to effectively run screen plays.. thus we suck at them.

Let's send a 3rd or 4th & Clabo for Branden Albert. They need an excuse to move Fisher to the left side where he's comfortable b/c he's been a mess on the right side [3rd worst right tackle per PFF at -11.1 which is even worse than Clabo's -8.8]. Clabo sucks, but at least he'd be no worse at right tackle for KC than Fisher has been.

MJD is on the verge of becoming a shell of his former self, if he isn't already there.

A recurring theme under this management. Let us tweek the offensive line. When was the last year the line was reasonably stable? Anyone remember?

Hopefully they get better as the year moves on like they did last year. Unfortunately it was too late last year as we couldn't find ways to win te games early like we've done this far minus the ravens game.

When I think MJD and blocking my first image is 5'6 MJD crushing 6'4 Shawn Merriman right in his chest and dropping him on his ***. Amazing.

The Dolphins don't run very many screens and when they do it's usually predictable and so a lineman is able to peel off and stay on the runner. The Dolphins could be a very good screen team. Remember that touchdown Mike Wallace scored against Indy? That was a screen. The Dolphins got blockers out front of Wallace including Pouncey being way down the field erasing a defensive back, and Wallace's speed did the rest.

A play that I've always liked that I cant ever remember us running in the last few years is the TE Screen. And with a guy like Clay, who is a good runner with the football... I would think that could be a pretty effective play.

Plus, unlike the WR screen... it wouldnt require our linemen to get as far out to block.

    Just a thought....

Well statistically speaking Tannehill has thrown 18 passes behind the line of scrimmage, out of 170 "aimed" passes. I guess those aren't all screens but it suggests we've run screen plays perhaps more than just the one time.

Incidentally they gained 142 yards on those 18 throws. That's not bad. I think the Wallace screen and the Thigpen screen probably bring the average up though.

I just see poor deception when we run screens, especially by the Qb, sometimes you have to adjust your arm angle on those screens, have to have a little swiftness back there contorting your body, little more acting involved, it needs to be sneaky, then fast, and I don't see either, hell it's futile on the right asking those slugs to get out in front..

Which is ironic because the right side is where we had the success with the Wallace screen and I believe that's the side Thigpen sprung his 50 yarder.

Yes we have, we did it vs Baltimore in fact. Wallace got like 8 or 9 yards.
