The way this one sets up for us... coming off a bye, two weeks of recuperation for our players' bodies, the Bills without their starting QB, their back-up gimpy, our getting some folks back on the defensive side of the field, the coaches having time to assess our line play and the Bills' offense...

I said last week that no game is easy for the Dolphins, and I maintain that. However, this one should be as easy as it gets for us. If we lose this one, it's probably crippling. We should win it.

Last year, didn't the coaches sort of bring out a new gameplan for Tannehill late in the year against the Bills, and it was one of his best games? If I remember correctly. If so, this one should be like that. Don't want to think about a loss here.

In principal, I agree with all of that. However, their very Dline still has to get slowed down by our Oline. If we can slow them down, then there's no reason to not win this game at home.

They ran the read option for a 10 yard average on like 6 carries.

To my eye, I'm more worried about Buffalo than the "Jest's". That should have been the thread, Is Buffalo Better Than Us. They show a ton of resiliency, a team that has nothing to lose is always the scariest to me.

Jesus, bengals have a 14 point lead, they have the ball at the bills 6 yard line, with one minute to go in the 3rd...

How the hell did they allow the bills to come back..

    Ok, 17 point lead...

Ok, so chip shot field goal was good, but a holding penalty, then he missed it..

    14 point lead.

I'm nervous about this game and about the season. Need to keep guys healthy for 11 games, which is a long stretch. Still, for us bye came at a good time.

Sob, he made the plays...there was a scramble where his reads weren't there, started directing traffic with his off arm, and found the open guy down the middle, big play, then the post route to Goodwin for 6.

This Whaley GM is good..Alonso, Nic Robey undrafted from USC, Goodwin, Robert woods, obviously their Qb Manuel played well..all contributing...real nice draft.

Nickell Robey and Joseph Fauria as UDFAs still boggles my mind.

My top UDFAs this year based on my draft board were:

    RB Dennis Johnson
    WR Mark Harrison
    TE Joseph Fauria
    OT Xavier Nixon
    DT Kwame Geathers
    LB Jake Knott
    CB Nickell Robey
    QB Peter Lalich

Those were the guys I did a lot of work on and just adored in the run-up to the Draft. I had draftable grades on 13 other guys including the likes of Zac Stacy, Cierre Wood and T.J. Barnes, who are on rosters right now I believe. I'm not sure any of the others are. But the 8 guys above are the ones I would have pulled out every stop to sign as UDFAs.

Peter Lalich has pretty much dropped off the face of the earth. He might be working at Starbucks for all I know. I wanted him as a camp arm. Despite him not getting any love, I'm pretty darn sure he'd have been a better camp arm than Aaron Corp(se). Oh well.

Dennis Johnson fizzled out in preseason under a hale of fumbles. That was ugly. He looked good carrying the ball but it was something ridiculous like 6 fumbles. I think he's on the Browns practice squad.

Mark Harrison is languishing on the Patriots' reserve non-football injury list. They'll end up having to make a decision whether to activate him mid year or not. Given Amendola's propensity for getting hurt, Harrison's size and strength which make him almost a pseudo-tight end, and the disappointment with Josh Boyce...I'd say they could be likely to activate him. But we'll see.

I was a little baffled that Xavier Nixon didn't get more opportunities in Washington this preseason. I thought he did OK. Some errors in pass pro which I expected of him as a rookie, looked better in run blocking. The Skins cut him and put him on the practice squad. The Colts poached him off the practice squad and now he's a member of their roster.

Jake Knott is a special teams ace in Philadelphia. He gets some playing time on defense but not much. He's a typical UDFA that makes the team...special teams guy. Similarly, Kwame Geathers is on the San Diego roster and he's actually active on game days, gets in for a few snaps here and there. Both of these guys did really well in preseason (for those interested, PFF gave them both positive grades) and I look forward to seeing if they develop more.

But the two guys I'm most proud of though are Joseph Fauria and Nickell Robey. They're among the very best rookies at their position PERIOD, and they were UDFAs.

I don't think its impossible or would take a miracle for an O-line to get better with time. We've only seen it happen hundreds of times. But a tweak CAN make all the difference. See: Ravens 2012-13.

It will be a good test to see if we've fixed one of our weaknesses, which is backs catching passes out of the backfield.

The Dolphins definitely did a better job with that against Ray Rice. But they can't have a relapse against Spiller because obviously he can kill you.

Anyways, I'm not sure how they bengals aren't dismantling teams with the talent that possess..besides AJ green, Sanu, Gresham, Eifert, Bernard, their getting serious play from Marvin jones and Sansenbacher...

Their secondary isn't all that safeties suck...

    Wow here's something interesting.

The Cincinnati Bengals only blitzed Thaddeus Lewis a total of 5 times. But on those 5 snaps, he completed 3 of 4 passes for 109 yards and 2 TDs with 0 INTs. He was sacked 1 time.

So essentially the Bengals were having great luck all day long dropping players back into coverage against Lewis and letting their defensive front do all the work of rushing him. He was 16 of 28 for a paltry 107 yards on these snaps, with 4 sacks.

I wonder if Miami is going to take any lessons from that. It's not in Kevin Coyle's nature though. He blitzed the hell out of Brandon Weeden, blitzed the hell out of Andrew Luck, stepped it back a little bit against Matt Ryan, played conservative coverage against Drew Brees, and went back to blitzing Joe Flacco.

My guess is Coyle will treat Lewis much as he did Luck and Weeden, other younger less experienced quarterbacks. He's probably going to come after him. Guess the question is will Lewis be able to handle it like he did against the Bengals, throwing that 22 yard touchdown to Scott Chandler and that 40 yard touchdown to Marquise Goodwin.

I agree w/ the intangible stuff, Bills ready for a let down, Miami off a bye etc, but until we get a respectable running game I don't see us blowing any one out.

Buffalo is 3-3 with 5 games decided by one score and the Cleveland game where they had a last minute pick 6 to stretch the game to 13. No ones been able to stretch it out on them so far. Manuel is out but IMO he's not a good QB so the drop off to Lewis isn't a huge deal for them. Their finally getting healthy in the secondary, they can play man on us and they have a DL that can get pressure.

I'm thinking 24-17 or something like that.

I really hope Miami can put away the Bills handily in this one. When was the last time we had a game where when the 4th quarter started, we didn't have to worry. For once, i'd love to put the Tums away sometime in the 3rd quarter. I know parity and all, but if we're a good team, we should be able to do that after a bye. I'll take a win either way.

Todd only wore those once. ONCE, damn you! And he was drunk and horny at the time and had just gotten that free sample of Cialis. The mood seemed right.

You're never going to let him live that down are you? :shifty:

I would love to see the no huddle out the gate this week. Could help the running game as well not giving the D so much time to get set up.

Is it just me or is the game after a bye a bit more exciting leading up to it?

I'm sure it will have a lot to do with Wake's health. If he is good to go I bet less blitzing. I'm so relieved Patterson is back this week, as well. Why blitz though if 4 is good enough? I would like to see some run-blitzing though.

    Stevie: Probably.

Spiller: yes, but limited, but he's expected to go.

Wiki says 6'2"--but i don't think that has anything to do with why balls got batted.

Let me elaborate on Stevie and Spiller. Most Bills fans don't share this opinion, but Stevie Johnson was Fitzpatrick's security blanket in an offense specifically tailored to encourage timing/improvisation. Stevie Johnson--a 7th round draft pick (for a reason)--spent three years in a right place, right time scenario. Manuel's favorite target is Woods, and until this week, I doubt Thad has ever thrown a pass to the guy. The chemistry may never be there again, and while Stevie IS incredibly good at getting open, he's not the focal point of the offense, and nothing you should be concerned about.

Spiller--evidently--takes 20 games to learn an offense. He can't find the seams and get between tackles. He still wants to bounce it outside, and if he does, and he has space, he's gone. But, he hasn't figure out how to do that in the middle of the field...yet. And it's at the detriment of the Bills offense. Freddy will forever do his thing, and Choice has proven himself about as reliable as a third stringer can be. If they get it going, they'll run ALL DAY (55 carries against Baltimore).

Don't agree on Stevie, fine football player, good luck running on us..Lewis is small, I'd say from looking at him closely, 6'1, 195..man it's a tough spot for him this week dude, were big and active..any he's gonna have trouble finding lanes for which to throw.

All we have to do is keep him in the pocket and make him play the position..

I mean, I've only watched every game of Stevie Johnson's career...what would I know?

I wouldn't expect Thad to be expected to pass from the pocket Sunday, so don't bank on that.

And after playing five teams that have no running game, what makes you so confident in that 19th ranked 4 yards per carry?

Many of you think you are going to blow away Buffalo---how do you think that will happen?

The team has been in every game this season with many coming down to the 4th quarter. they could easily be 5-1 or 6-0.

The common games so far between the two teams have been...

Baltimore who BUF beat 23-20 and Miami lost to 26-23
Cleveland who BUF lost to 37-24 and Miami beat 23-10

    With the 4 Bills loses....

    1. New england....they played well against him. If Pats didnt have Amendola they would have lost this game. It came down to a last play of the game FG by New England. better clock management could have won the game for Buffalo.

    2. Jets.....Geno Smith got lucky. Jets had the benefit of playing a team without their top 3 CBs and starting free Safety. Geno Smith did really nothing except for 4 long 40+ yd passes with 2 for TDs and the other 2 large yardage gainers into Buffalo territory that produced points. With Smith it was go deep and Ill throw it up there for you to catch. Buffalo defends one of these long TD passes and the game is tied in the 4th quarter with the ball instead of Buffalo being down by 7.

3,. Cleveland.....Browns had a punt return for a TD. Had they stopped him with only 5-15 yds gained on the return Cleveland wouldnt have scored. If they didnt score, then the game would have been 24-23 late in the 4th with Buffalo leading Another big facotr was losing EJ Manuel. cleveland was not stopping him. Had he played the rest of the game Buffalo likely wins this game.

    4. Cincinnati....It came down to two plays...the 4th down failure at the goal line and the long bomb pass that should have been called passinterference. The PI would have put them into FG territory and if it wasnt done the WR could have gone for a TD. In this game they were without Stevie Johnson--their #1 WR. This game they got Gilmore and Byrd back from injuries but they were not near 100%. Early on Cincinati tested Gilmore's side and got some big plays because he was playing with only one arm and couldnt take on blockers so they designed runs and screens to his side of the field

In all your years of watching stevie Johnson and concluding that his effectiveness came from a below average Qb and system, and that he was a deservedly so a 7th round pick, it's not something I will agree with, don't care how much you think you know about your own players, dude is a very good wide receiver.

I'm not scared of Thad Lewis from the pocket..his only chance of survival is to use his athleticism to get him out of it and make plays.

Saying many of us are saying that is the inferiority complex of a bills fan kicking in...must be because I haven't heard that as the majority around here.

Daaaaamn, Geno and the jets put 4 40 plus plays on your ***...did Clyde gates go off or what.
