This is right. Wallace and Jones have been terrible at times this year. Both are making big money. If we can (if we gave ourselves an option to get out of these contracts) we need to at least give it due diligence. Overpaying players that play terrible is a recipe for disaster.
Well for what it's worth, the deal is really only 3 years. Miami can easily get out of it after year 3. However, I'd like to see what happens with our offensive line before I start counting down to Mike Wallace's exit.
Seems reasonable enough to me. We have to fix the oline to properly evaluate RT. Certainly its the bane of our passing game right now, notwithstanding the drops from the WRs.
I posted about that on Sunday. Omar had a small mention that Jones' responsibilities and role had shifted this season. He excelled last season due in part to Coyles allowing him to free lance and that the defense was funneling ball carriers back into him. This season, Coyles has tasked him with specific coverage responsibilities on TEs and backs and Jones is noticeably struggling. I dunno if Jones will maintain these coverage responsibilities if we ever field a healthy defense this season.
Lol... See, you haven't been reading... The OLine is the "worst in the history of the NFL", therefor Pouncey and Cogs suck. Grimes is "God awful" and a "Chump". Sturgis is a rookie and all the rookies have "sucked". Philbin and Tannehill suck. Tannehill is "not the answer". We should "scrap this whole failed experiment, Head Coach and all" and "start over"... Really, MrClean. You have to spend more time reading in the Rants forum... ;-) http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?78569-Problems-all-around Other than those problems. The Fins ROCK!!!
Mr. Clean, pay attention. This isn't that hard. Tannehill, Pouncey, Sturgis--rookie contracts, money is irrelevant. I dont think Grimes is earning his money. I'll give you Incognito. Sorry, missed one. Next time think before you post.
Wasn't Grimes a top 5 rated corner by PFF going into the last game? Or was it going into the Saints game?
Great post, Sherman's play-calling has just not been consistently good this year. You gotta wonder if he is one of those old coaches that are set in their ways and puts the onus on the players to make it work, or if it's genuinely a give or take situation
Grimes still is top 5 in PFF ratings with 1 INT and 7 PD's. Tops in the NFL. Or 1 less PD then Smith got all of last season. Nolan despite being everyone's whipping boy here is 28th because he's allowing only 41.9% of passes thrown at him to be caught for a 58.7 QBR against and has chucked in 7 stops. Not bad for a guy should be our 3 or 4 if Patterson didn't disappear. If we get Wake and Jordan back healthy both of those guys should improve merely from the added pass rush help of those 2 coming off the ends. What I am concerned with is how Coyle is using the LB's. They are all ranked horribly and don't provide enough blitz pressure to justify how often they are sent. Koa Misi (1/1/1) is actually our highest ranked starting LB with 1 big negative game to start the season, 3 invisible games (ie: hanging around 0) and 1 positive game. Wheeler (1/2/9) has been credited well in 1 game, alright in another and then bad and horrible in the other 3. Ellerbe (0/4/2) negative in 3, 1 invisible and 1 positive (with only 16 snaps due to injury) (38th Run Stop %, 21st Pass Rush Productivity). Really only Wheeler is getting consistent pressure (5th in Pass Rush Productivity, 3rd Run Stopping %).
He's a second corner...he shouldnt be our first guy. He's not that good. I know since we signed him, he automatically gets upgraded in everyone's mind, but the reality is, he's not among elite CBs in this league.
Oh lord...... Now grimes is bad?! Ahaha Lmfao. . I should start thanking my lucky stars every night for my functional eyes and the fact that I have the correct number of chromosomes. My goodness.
You really are quite a silly little person aren't you? You listed a handful of players who in your opium induced vision of the team are the only ones earning their money. There was no qualifier about not counting anyone on their rookie contract. Rookie contract money is irrelevant, why? Does it not count against the cap? Oh wait, yes it does. If you don't think Grimes is earning his money, then perhaps you are a large silly person, rather than a little one. Your telling anyone else to think before they post is beyond hilarious.
He was Atlanta's 1st corner before he tore his Achilles last season. I guess they never checked with you first though.
If and when the offensive line actually starts protecting the quarterback and maybe opening up an occasional hole for a running back we may see this offense improve. What limited success that Ryan Tannehill has had in five games is in spite of the offensive line, not because of it. I don't think we have seen the best of Tannehill, Wallace, Griffon or Hartline yet. Everything depends on the offensive line and how they play the rest of the season. We still have a real chance to win our division if they can work out a few problems and we get some injured players back.
The point is (to me was axiomatic--obviously, not to you) any rookie we had is getting paid rookie money. Its set on a scale. That money is paid regardless. When you sign a FA, that money is negotiated. See how that works? See the difference? We have grossly overpaid for Mike Wallace and Rashad Jones, based on their performance so far. Until the second contract, rookies make their slotted amount, doesnt matter who is in the slot. This isn't difficult. So if me telling you to think before you post is hilarious, its also necessary. Unless of course, you think about this and still don't understand. Either way, have a great day.
I think so. Understanding he has 11 games to redeem himself. Right now, he's been putrid. If we had not extended him yet, there would certainly be no clamor to do so...
Almost as bad as Belichick, that bum. I don't recall Ireland ever even attempting to draft a so called weapon. So the ineptitude is just another illusion your creating. Like every 3rd, 4th, 5th rounder is a sure thing... Gimme a break.
I don't think I've ever seen someone so misguided in general yet seem so assuredly full of himself to the point of acting like an arrogant, condescending blowhard toward everyone who disagrees with him, which is the majority of the forum.
AGREE 100% It's amusing that Hartline had 3 games with 100 yard plus in receptions while Wallace has two hundred yard games out of 5 played this season Hartline also had 1 td all of last season which Wallace has matched after 5 games yet people here crowned Hartline as a God among men last season while Wallace is getting the shat end of the stick
You want to point out exactly where I am wrong? Oh no, that requires critical thiinking. Much easier just to attack me personally. Yes, unless posters or columnists or reporters blow smoke up the Fins Blow Holes, "the majority of the forum" attacks them. I listed in detail which player are overpaid, specifically these two bums (Wallace and Jones). I listed in detail why you can't put rookies in the category. And I only asked the question if there was any relief for the Fins either this year or next, before the whole bloated contract is paid....yet you attack me personally. I think that is against forum TOS, actually. I wonder if you'll be warned. I guarantee you if I retaliated, I'd get warned, threatened, and probably put in poster time out. So I won't. I'll just say, as is my motto, Phinsational, Good For Your Soul....!!!
Just because rookies and players still under their first contract are paid based on a salary scale has nothing to do with whether or not they are earning their money.
You also listed the only players you believe are earning their money. Then in a later post you added qualifiers that to be on your list, it could not include anyone under their rookie contract, even though some of those players earn their money much better than others.
How does this quote pertain to football? Stay on track and you won't get a 1 year ban. thanks. as for the actually football talk- the GM does need to find weapons in the draft, unfortunately word is that the organization will cut ties with Ireland after this year if they don't make the playoffs, so that extension was rather meaningless.
The difference is, we had no choice in what they were getting paid. We didn't make a team decision to OVER PAY the rookies. This is so basic, so simple, the only difficult thing is why you dont understand? Or maybe its not difficult at all.
ROFLMAO. Because I really like you Mr Clean, and I want you to be safe...so to your existence and continued survival...I lift my glass to warning labels. Otherwise, Darwinism would be your demise.
True to form....Phinsational refuses to address the content of the post, instead hinges on an insignificant grammatical error. The GM does need to find weapons for this team. What rookie or FA is outperforming his draft status or contract on this team, Phinsational? Can you answer that? I would venture to say none of them.
