This team has produced one viable starter on the OL, and that is mainly because he is a genetic fluke.

FWIW the last time Danny Watkins played football (2012), Pro Football Focus felt his issues were specifically limited to pass protection. They gave him a +0.3 run blocking grade and a -6.6 pass blocking grade on only 461 total snaps.

So one can certainly question whether putting Watkins in for Jerry at right guard would be a move that improves the offense's ability to protect Ryan Tannehill.

The same is true with Nate Garner who had a -2.9 pass block grade from PFF last year, but a +2.4 run block grade.

On the other hand, perhaps getting guys who can run block better could help the team establish the kind of ground game which takes pressure off the offensive line in pass protection...so it could work anyway.

I'm certainly not against any drastic measures. If the Dolphins want to send a message to the unit by taking the entire right side of the line and sending them to the bench, so be it.

I was just going to ask, they are at least able to run block huh? The right side of the line can't even do that.

Changes need to be made regardless. It's worth a try because it can't get worse.

I saw Boomer suggest on twitter that if it were up to him end move Jerry to RT and play Watkins at RG and just deal with that going forward.

I don't know if we move guys around at this point but I think we need to start thinking about leaving TE's to pass block or at least chip DE's. We have 3 pretty good WR's that should be able to create some plays. I'd also like to see us move the pocket as well as some screens to make overly aggressive teams like BAL pay for it.

Tannehill needs to start getting pissed to his o-line, I don't see him talking to his offense maybe M Moore, needs to take that leadership and
get that goddamn look in his eye and start to be somewhat vocal.

He needs to move better, throw better, act faster. He needs to be a better signal caller as far as being vocal. But yelling at team mates is kinda douchey and accomplishes nothing.
I am happy with his demeanor.

The worst part of it is our OL appears to be getting worse every game. Tannehill is getting killed and is this going to affect his development. Its sad to think our team is not as good as we thought or had hoped. I hate to think that the high point of our season is when we were 3-0. I felt sorry for Tannehill when I was watching the Ravens game, it appeared that as soon as the ball was hiked as soon as he looked up there was somebody in his face.

Get our heads together. Make a move on the oline. Maybe two. Beat the bills after the bye and we are right where we need to be. Dumerville and Suggs are about as good as it gets as bookends right now, so today made our bad oline looked putrid.

We are still in it and there's things we can do to get better. A lot of us think Philbin is a very good coach. (Myself included) time for him to prove it.

Martin is better now than he was as a rookie, all things considered.
Such as left tackle is a more difficult position than RT, and his pass blocking isn't any worse than it was playing the easier Rt spot last year.

Once again I feel like Muck brings up a great point.

Who exactly has Jim Turner made better in 2012 or 2013?

Jake Long had his worst season as a pro BEFORE getting hurt. Tyson Clabo has regressed a LOT compared with how he was as a pass protector in Atlanta. John Jerry has made zero improvement. Richie Incognito looks like the same player. Jonathan Martin has only MARGINALLY gotten better from where he was in 2012, when he was one of the worst tackles that had played football in five years.

Mike Pouncey has become legitimately one of the best centers in the NFL, if not the best. I guess you can lay that one on Turner.

I also don't like that we are all ONCE AGAIN placed in the uncomfortable position of having our head coach be a former offensive line coach, yet his offensive line is performing very poorly.

It's just nerve-racking to be sitting here once again making up these excuses about how Philbin is the head coach now and can't focus on the line, like we used to with Sparano.

of course you can start your mouth now, after you had to shut up for 3 weeks, when we went 3-0....does it finally feel good again to be able to start threads like this for your favorite team (i seriously doubt you are a dolphins fan anyways), that you always give **** every week, just go away, become a fan of the saints and be happy

He is better, but then again you might expect at least some sort of improvement from a rookie regardless.

It certainly wasn't comforting to see him annihilated -- a la Aldon Smith last year -- by Dumervill on Tannehill's miraculous 4th and 10 scramble. I honestly sat there pre-snap, fully expecting Dumervill to summon everything he had left and truck him. And he did just that. It was completely predictable.

He's improved, but against upper level competition, his deficiencies become devastating liabilities. It's as if he's completely overwhelmed in those situations. Watch as he lie on the ground on that play. He looked defeated in that moment. Understandable, as my confidence would certainly have been shaken in that moment.

Certainly could give him that, although I do feel like Pouncey would have improved regardless.

If Martin is "better" then he's improved from steaming hot garbage to just hot garbage.

He is a guy who should not be a starter anywhere, on any o-line. Yet he is the best we have at LT. And there are no other options, which makes it even worse.

And Clabo is probably worse than him, with Jerry somewhere in there as well.

We have 3 guys starting who should not be starters. And there is nothing we can do about it until the offseason

After watching the game yesterday, I am just concerned that the O-line is going to derail what could still be a promising season. I also don't understand why more screens are not called, particularly against aggressive defenses. That's on Sherman. I just hope that changes are made NOW, before it's too late. I like the idea of shifting Jerry back to RT. RG? I'm not sure. I don't know much about Watkins. Garner? Try something! The last thing we want is for Tanny to get hurt...
