I think anyone who listened to Tim Ryan last Sunday knows that this comment is rubbish. He's a first class moron.

Though it pains me to concede, I can't say I disagree.

Fact is, who more than Dolphin fans need to be convinced?
Who have seen their best hopes get steamrolled, their occasional sparks of opportunity abruptly snuffed, and their promising streaks derailed more than us?
At 3-0 who among us ever looks past any opponent on the schedule?
We've been conditioned, if not numbed over years of disappointment into believing otherwise. The only thing short of the Lombardi that will likely convince those who have persevered the last few decades, that the team is beyond mediocre, is to see them pounding other teams good, bad, and mediocre, consistently, in convincing fashion, into submission for a couple years, or at least until they can reach the post season, with any of their fingernails still intact.

I guess when I think of "playoff contender" I think of a team contending for a spot in the playoffs.I believe the general feeling by the media is we are in least in the discussion. Push-comes-to-shove and they would probably have us finishing 7th or 8th in the AFC (I predicted 7th in the preseason). So while that would suck, it does reflect improvement and a playoff contender IMO.

Right now, I think we either win the division or miss the playoffs totally. I think it's 3rd or 7th place.

Frankly, I don't think Ryan is wrong for having this opinion.

New Orleans is really tough in this type of scenario. And we've got some key injuries defensively. I'd be disappointed, but not surprised if we lost by 10+. It might not be like playing in Seattle, but it's pretty dang tough.

Check out the last six Monday night games at the Super Dome.

    beat Packers 51-29
    beat Falcons 35-27
    beat Patriots 38-17
    beat Giants 49-24
    beat Falcons 45-16
beat Eagles 28-13 (the 2012 suspension season)

    Big wins against good teams.

Overall, the Saints have won 8 straight Monday night games going back to 2008. They aren't bad on Sunday night either, including a 62-7 beatdown of hapless Indy in 2011.

We've got our work cut out for us.

    Pretty much.

I'm the "blind homer" who thought we'd win 10-11 games and even I think this is a really bad spot for us.

F*** Tim Ryan and the bowlegged b**** horse he rode in on. That jack*** didn't even know who from the Fins was injured or playing gimpy in the Falcons game. All he did was ramble about the Falcons injuries and talk s*** about Tannehill, who outplayed MRyan by the time it was over.

The injuries this season have sucked big time, but we have been really resilient this season and have found different ways to win. Can't wait to see what Philbin and his coordinator's come up with just for the Saints. I'd feel a lot better if Soliai were healthy and playing and Wake was a 100%, but it is what it is and is a perfect time for others to step up and shine in prime time.

Also, there is no way we could be embarrassed with this hardy group of guys. They're much more dedicated than any of Sparano's teams and Philbin jettisoned the whiners and finger-pointers like Sean Smith.

I'd love to win and be 4-0, but as long as it's competitive, I'll be happy. 3-1 is still far better than where most had us projected, or where most thought we'd be by game 4. Can't wait to be in the stands and rooting for the team Monday night.

Looks like the toughest game of the season. The classic buzzsaw game. Much like @Seattle right now.

I still love when people say things like "no chance" and then purport to stick with them. My next line is always, "so you're sure, right? So you'd give me odds, right? And because there's zero chance, you'd give me 100:1 odds, right? I mean otherwise you'd be a liar, right? This is automatic money for you."

Funny to watch people suddenly squirm.

The Dolphins have no chance against the Saints? Let's look at this a bit more closely, shall we?

The Saints won by 7 against the Falcons, IN the Superdome
The Saints just BARELY won against the Buccaneers (by 2) in Tampa Bay
Then the Saints were fortunate enough to draw the high school football team in the Arizona Cardinals in their "blowout" in the Superdome.

The Dolphins won against the Browns IN Cleveland
The Dolphins won against the Colts, a playoff team from last year, IN Indianapolis
The Dolphins won against the Falcons, a team in the NFC Championship game last year

To use the comparison I do when discussing teams in the SEC, The Dolphins have been battle tested thus far this year. The Saints haven't.

In the history of the Dolphins versus the Saints, the two teams have met in the regular season 10 times, a 6-4 record going to the Dolphins. The last time the Dolphins played the Saints was the 2009 season under the anemic play calling of Tony Sparano as head coach with Chad Henne as QB with a 46-34 loss in Miami.

Tony Sparano is no Joe Philbin
Chad Henne is no Ryan Tannehill

I'm not saying Miami WILL win...I believe they can and the fan in me says they'll win but for Tim Ryan to blatantly say the Dolphins have no chance against the Saints is just the disrespect I want the sports writers and commentators to continue to have for the Dolphins.

Keep betting against the Dolphins as we roll like a juggernaut and compete for new powerhouse in the AFC!

Tim Ryan also told listeners on the Sirius NFL radio "moving the chains show" that he used to do with Pat Kirwan that the Rams were a "playoff team" this year. :lol:He has always been very negative towards the Dolphins, and was at times insulting to the Dolphins fans that used to call in on the show. He has a right to his opinion, but I don't feel he has ever been objective when looking at the Dolphins. Now he is on Fox, with an even larger platform for his often "off the mark" opinions.
My only hope for the Monday night game against the Saints, is that we hang in there, and keep it competitive. if we win, awesome, but I would hate to see these guys get the satisfaction of witnessing a blowout.

Let's face it. Miami is a much improved team. But, the reality is, they are not beating people 52-10.

The Saints have a great, vet QB and their D is spectacular. I could see a really tough game given that Miami has given up so many sacks.

I hope it is close and competitive if we lose. But, Monday night at the dome with Payton's return this year - it is clearly the kind of game that can get away from a visiting club in a hurry.

If we can keep it close giving up FGs instead of TDs ala the Falcons game we have a chance.A remote one because we have more holes than the Saints but still a chance .Anything is possible in the NFL.

This will also be Tannehill's first prime time game of his NFL career. But jeez, they could have given him the freaking Jets at least to make it easy to give a good first impression. Hopefully Ryan delivers.

That's barely prime time, a fraction of NFL fans actually have NFL Network. I hate Thursday games, and hate that the NFL forces teams to play those just to get ratings. The spotlight is much bigger in SNF/MNF.

I'm doubting we win, but come on I'd at least give Miami a 20% chance or so. We're going on the road to a difficult place to play the best defense and offense we've faced (and may face all season), so it would take an absolute perfect game (or rare mistake filled game by NOLA), but they do have a chance.

People shoot their mouths off... heck, I do it on this board. But making such an absolute declaration --- no. I can only see one team anyone could say, "X-team has no chance whatsoever against Y-team" here in 2013. And in this equation:

    X-Team = Jacksonville. Y-Team = Denver, New Orleans, Seattle.

Other than the teams mentioned above, it really is "any given Sunday" and all that. And Monday!

I have some doubts we win as well but, I think Philbin and Ryan views this game as the potential franchise culture changing game. They're going in New Orleans on Monday Night Football thinking this is a must win to change the atmosphere in Miami. They win today, and the fans will start camping the stadium for tickets. They've got a lot to play for today, and I think they play their hearts out, and win or lose, we will not look inferior to the Saints.

Anyone who says one NFL team has "no chance" against another either hasn't been around the NFL very much or for very long, or is just looking to create a soundbite and create some controversy. Here, it seems to be the latter.

While I have always disliked the "bend but don't break" style of defense, that is what we have. And while I don't love it, it can be effective. If we continue to not give up the big play and to toughen up in the red zone, we can beat anybody. I expect NO to have 5-6 scoring opportunities. If they get 4+ TDs out of those, we will lose IMO. If we hold them to 2 or fewer TDs in those red zone trips, we will win. If it is 3, it will be very close but I don't love our chances.

I don't like Ryan, but he was right on this one. He was just being bold in a prediction. Of course, "on any given Sunday" as the saying goes. But, people do predict games. He saw a blowout coming and I thought that was a distinct possibility (esp. without Wake and with a still depleted DB lineup - evidently the coaches have no confidence in the rookies). The score could have been even worse.

Particularly given our O-line play. They gave up 10 hits, 4 sacks. By contrast (albeit without Wake) the Dolphins D logged 3 hits, 2 sacks.
