still one of my favorite moments as a dolphins fan. had the dolphins money line. they were 14 or 17 point dogs and i got 5 or 6 to 1 odds. only threw 100 on them but that was one of the sweetest bets i ever hit. aj feeley was money for one time in his life lol. i also wanted bates to be HC after that

welker couldnt leave fast enough. When he finally was traded, he said he would look over at NE's sideline and wish he was a Patriot. F*** him.

welker is as sarcastic as it gets, smarter than most, once a team turns their back on you, it's called a comeback.

Because he had been offered a contract with a poison pill in it. Either way, he wasn't going to be here.

All I know is, I feel very good for once in my life about this Dolphins team going into a Monday night game. I believe Tannehill going to get three or four touchdown passes this game. I have a feeling that Mike Wallace and Tannehill are going to start clicking.

This. I thought this was common knowledge by now? We talk about it every time Welker catches a pass and someone brings up the trade...

seriously, what's the common knowledge? I thought New England made an offer and we let him go?

New England was going to poison pill us with offering Welker a contract with X guaranteed if he played 5 games or more in Miami in one season.

Similar to the Steve Hutchinson situation... however NE tried to make good by offering a 7th along with the 2nd round pick that the RFA tender required. That's why it wound up just being a trade and extension rather than the traditional RFA offersheet.

    - Wes Welker was a restricted free agent in 2007.
    - Miami placed a $1.35m 2nd round tender on him. Which was stupid... $500,000 more and it was a 1st round tender. 1 million more and it was a 1st and a 3rd. Coming off a 67 catch season, he was worth 2.35 million for one year. And Welker was very willing to neogiate a new contract with Miami at this time.
    - Minnesota and Patriots were interested
    - Pats offered Welker a $39 million dollar contract sheet. Miami has 7 days to match it or take the 2nd round pick.
    - Pats offer sheet contained a poison pill. If Welker played 4 games in Miami during any one season, the entire $39 contract was guaranteed.
    - Pats called Miami and did a back room deal during the 7 day waiting period. They were going to get Welker anyway because of the poison pill. So, if they traded Welker straight up, New England would throw in a 7th round pick.
    - Miami accepts deal. Speculation that both teams violated CBA by conspiring to work around the system. Nothing comes of it though.
    - New England retracts 39 million dollar offer sheet once Welker is traded and Welker is forced to sign 5y/18 million dollar (haha). His agent was pissed lol.

This is how Welker ended up a Patriot.

sounds to me that when you know you don't want to lose a player and have a very hi projection of what he is, you don't fu&$ around with a 2nd round tender.

Based on the tenure of Cam Cameron and Randy Mueller, I don't think they knew what they were doing anyways.

That was the only play darrius Thompson ever made. And the pats deserved to lose for covering him with Troy brown.

I miss those orange jerseys and those players too. anytime we can beat the pats is a good day. I liked Jim Bates but I also feel bad about Dave he was a god guy and 2x times a better coach then Cam or Sparono .

There are some who could possibly feel that your evaluation of Wannstedt is somewhat disagreeable. I think his hire by His Hairness was the beginning of a decade of futility and frustration, and Jimmy's hiring by Wayne was proof positive that he did not know diddley about football!
