Has the ability to make a move and get some YAC. He's definitely clutch. Bess was very consistent but Gibson is more valuable. He's our 2nd best FA pickup (grimes). Gibson is part of the game plan and as long as defenses fear wallace, gibson will catch 5-7 balls a game.
Gibby is leading the league in receptions for first downs at 9. Loved black ninja, Gibby is an upgrade.
Love Gibson. Comes up big on 3rd downs, works the middle nicely and can get some YAC. Good compliment to Wallace and Hartline. I wasn't sure about him when we signed him but he has been a nice weapon for Tannehill. Happy to have him.
I don't think he had his proverbial drop last game...He's been a good signing, I like his nature on the field..
I was open for the change, I liked Bess and respected how he worked on his craft but I figured some different dynamics were in order because I came to a conclusion that when Bess was on the field it gave a tell to the defense, as in mostly horizontal routes were gonna happen.
There is more versatility to Gibson despite the drops... .Bess had them too . Although he is playing slot receiver he is versatile and could play Hartlines position if necessary.
So far so good. I questioned the pickup for numerous reasons, but so far, I don't think there's many slot receivers playing better. His ability to get open and make plays on 3rd down is a much needed and welcome sight.
WADR to anyone who wasn't behind this signing from Day 1...I just don't get it. He had 51 catches last year. Only 3 of them were NOT for a 1st dwn or TD.
Damnit. Wanted to post before people started ****ting on Bess, left and right. People refuse to appreciate him for what he was for us. Will not stand by and allow you all to disparage the Black Ninja. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
Dbess is doing fine as well folks, he has 6 first down catches, 150 yds and just supplanted Greg Little as a starter in Cleveland. Gibby is larger and can make plays happen Dbess never could, like the 3rd down catch behind the yard marker, he is knocked back, kept his balance and picked up the first down. DBess could not do that for us, between the hashes he was awesome tho
And no, not the rapper ...14 year sentence on that dude by the way. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 4
Bess is my boy. Loved what he did for us and I wish him well in Cleveland. Good dude and a class act. Gibson is doing a hell of a job replacing him though and seems to bring a little more to the table.
People did not like his ability after the catch. His numbers after the catch were poor, but I said a few times watching clips of him that I thought he has the skill set to be a guy who can make plays after the catch. It's still early so I'd say the jury is still out, but it seems to me that he's done pretty well so far in this area.
One thing to remember about that play is that if Gibson falls down after the hit, it is still a first down. In fact, by making the second move to try to get the first down he ran the risk of losing yards.
Given that Bradford didn't exactly have a lot of options at WR, it's fair to suggest that it was a fluke. And it's not as though Gibson has an incredible skill set of any kind. He's a jack of all trades type player. By no means is that meant to insult Gibson, but I hardly think he was a "can't miss" signing. Although, I did find your chart (I think you made it) showing him as a strong YAC receiver interesting. That's something I really underrated him on. Loved the awareness and toughness on the final drive to steal that first down after being smacked back 3-4 yards. Anyway... The Rams didn't value him as much as we did (which in hindsight isn't saying a lot *Cough* Jake Long *cough*). Point being, I don't think the Gibson signing was a no brainer. But hey... all good. He's one of ours and playing well.
Falling down on command is a tough thing to do in the heat of the moment. It was natural instinct to keep fighting. Hard to fault him for it. Not to mention forward progress is subjective and the ref has a split second to determine location. Could of easily had ended up short of the marker had he not fought for the definitive 1st down.
Yeah, but Bess wasn't a very good YAC guy either. Everyone was saying we downgraded from Bess to Gibson, but Gibson was a statistical upgrade in virtually every stat other than YAC, but Bess' YAC wasn't great to begin with. I don't think that was me with the chart. Gibson has actually surprised me this year with his YAC so far. I'm not saying his signing was a no-brainer overall, I'm saying it was a no-brainer over Bess. You're right Bradford didn't have a lot of weapons, but Gibson was still the 3rd option and Bess was our 2nd....and Gibson put up better numbers.
Why? He's getting open on quite a few of the routes he runs. Tannehill just spreads the ball around. He had completions to 9 different guys on Sunday. Wallace is going to have his up and down games just like all of our receivers will.
I love Gibson's attitude and toughness. Nice bigger, stronger body over the middle, knack for moving the chains. Great signing. He's just fitting into this offense beautifully. On top of that, in interviews he just seems like an awesome dude. I wish we would get Wallace going a bit more, but Tanny's done a great job spreading it around and finding the right read quickly.
Gibson Had Def Proven To Be A Solid Signing So Far. I Don't Know If Tannehill Still Isn't Comfortable With Wallaces Routes Or What But he Doesn't Seem To Even Look His Way Very Often. If Wallace Gets Going In This Offense It Will Take It To The Next Level IMO. Tannehills Numbers Would Also Go up.
3-0 seems to be working so far. Brady made a career out of just throwing to who ever was open perhaps Tannehill thinks the same.
