Tannehill is THE guy, he's OUR guy, and I LOVE him. He's been very good so far this season. Makes me so giddy.
100% agree. It looked like Tannehill was throwing to the back shoulder all the way. For the first time I feel cautiously optimistic with Tannehill. I hope he lights it up next Monday against the Falcons.
I still find it kinda shocking how well Tannehill is playing and how well he is progressing, considering how little experience he still has as QB. Someone like Luck probably still has twice the amount of experience playing QB as Tannehill, that's pretty impressive IMO.
And all I heard in CBS' broadcast was LuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuckLuck. Luck LuckLuck LuckLuckLuckLuckLuck Luck Not saying a lot though, CBS just sucks at covering football.
I think he's referring to the statement/prediction made by an announcer on NFL.com or CBS or something, that Tannehill would break Marino's single-season passing yards mark this year.
I'm not blaming him either. I'm just pointing out that he was extremely close to throwing 3 TD passes instead of 1...it's a reason I don't believe statistics like TD passes tell you much without context.
waited for 30 minutes to see the highlights on NFL network. needed to see some Tanny throws and what they thought. needless to say it was all about Luck and how he didn't win the game in the 4th quarter. no need for any chatting between the panel either, they went to commercial. wanted to add to the OP on Tanny but I don't think any TV/ media in the USA will show anything to help our QB gain recognition.
Watching this Seattle-San Fran game, Russell is a bit off, but he'll likely get it together, he's a star QB and will get better. RGIII's already in trouble of getting benched for Cousins. Not that good a pocket passer, mobility took a major hit. We saw Luck's day, good but not enough, playing in a system he's been running for 5+ years, needed a TRAINLOAD of holding ordered by his owner to protect him...close to his ceiling IMHO. Tannehill, clutch throws, laser accuracy on several, starting to get better at pocket presence, showing he's in control on the field, made very few bad passes/decisions.
Of the three main QB's not named Tannehill (since I will be slightly bias) I don't think Wilson or RGIII are long term franchise QB's. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he didn't get it together honestly.
You could definitely be right...could go either way, time will tell (as with the others), but he was 8-0 at home last year...pretty damn good for a rook. Granted the Seachickens were the #1 scoring D last year certainly helped, still a noteworthy accomplishment.
I definitely don't think he sucks by any stretch. I think he ends up in that "very good but not really elite" category. Which isn't bad at all...but as a fan is truly frustrating.
I'm really not trying to get carried away here, but there is something interesting with Tanny getting better and better as he goes on. Yeah there are things that need work. But Ryan was much better in this Indy game than last year. Oddly, I don't think Luck is that much better this year than last year, at least at this point. Luck entered the league with a very high floor as a good to very good QB. IMO Ryan's ceiling is still pretty far off. We just may not see it right away.
It's hard not to be really excited about Tannehill. It's only been two games but he's shown pretty serious improvement since last year. He has moments of pure brilliance too. That throw to Clay on that long catch and run was perfect, and there were multiple defenders in the vicinity. He just threaded the needle with a fireball. I'M ****ING EXCITED AND I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS ABOUT IT!
This read-option vs read-option game is ugly. Both teams know how to defend it. Isn't that most of Wilson's game?
Wilson also broke the rookie record for touchdown passes...let's not judge him too harshly a game and a half into the season
RGIII's career will not be long if he doesn't learn how to avoid getting hit. He's not built like some of the other quarterbacks that can run.
Oh I'm not saying he's sh**...he's just having a rough night, since both teams can defend the read. He made a beautiful pass on the run a minute ago...very athletic play.
This week Tanny is up to 7th overall in WPA, and 9th overall in EPA. He slipped to 13th overall in DVOA this week. One thing to note is Tannehill is tied for 2nd for the most sacks taken with Geno Smith with 9. Only Weeden is worse with 11.
IMO that is a huge factor in predicting how QBs will eventually develop. The thing that really gets me excited about RT's potential development is that the areas he's weak in are areas that almost always improve with experience. Rate of improvement will vary, of course, but my impression is that RT is a fast learner who really puts the time in to getting better. I had a pretty high opinion of RT before his draft and it's even higher now.
The thing that I find interesting about Tannehill is that when he was drafted I thought he could use his legs to help compensate for his lack of experience. Kind of like a Jake Locker type quarterback. My biggest complain about Tannehill is that he doesn't use his legs enough. Even to the point where one sack he took was such an obvious one read and run type of play(or throw the ball away), and he still stayed in the pocket. Which proves to me he is a much better quarterback than I gave him credit for.
I agree. I always new he could sling it, but his reading of defenses from the pocket has progressed much faster than I expected. I just watched the Dallas/KC game and I found Smith to be an interesting comparison. He doesn't have the arm strength or middle/deep accuracy to attack the D vertically, but he (and Reid's system) do a great job of stretching the field horizontally. And Smith runs quickly and effectively. Of the teams I watched this year, I can't recall any QB that gets the ball out more quickly or runs more quickly. On most plays Smith basically looks for the quick pass on two or three options and if its not there, he runs for three or four yards (if that's all there is) and gets down. My hope is that at some point RT speeds up his reads enough that he'll recognize that some plays it won't pay to sit back and hope something develops. That on those plays he should just take off and get what he can. Obviously, it's a trade off as waiting can sometimes lead to those huge gains, but my hope is that as his experience grows he'll figure out when to hold them and when to fold them.
Wow. The numbers won't do what Tannehill did today justice. That drive. What a thing of beauty. And after the pummeling he took behind that line today? Un****ingbelievable.
I absolutely love this kid. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Big time game winning drive. THREE AND ****ING OH!!! This is overwhelming in a GOOD way. I'm STILL shaking and sweating.
That last drive was just SEX!. Wow! He's got some things to work out, but damn does he show promise. That was some exhilarating stuff.
