Glad to here Odrick is still locked up for a year. Don't do that to me pads!

I do disagree with that last part though regardless pads. IMO, Odrick plus one of Starks/Soliai is going to get paid a good deal.

    Right, you just politely asked.

If you can't see why that wording comes off as snarky and rude, then it's not worth discussing.

I think you over thinking it. Starks didn't show up to OTAs and then was limited in preseason. This gave Odrick an opportunity which he took and ran with. This happens all the time. It was the risk Starks took by staying home. He and his agent felt the team would see how irreplaceable he was and buckle in to a new contract.

With Odrick now playing this well, Ireland only has to sign either Starks or Solia and could slap the franchise tag on either. This give Irleand all the leverage with both agents and they know it which is why they are pissing and moaning to the media.

I don't see how you guys expect anything different from our local writers. Aside from New York and Chicago, Miami has the most brutal media coverage when it comes to sports. LA and Boston has the most apologetic/excuse made media. But for us, our media people have been doing this since forever now. If we won the Super Bowl Armando will write a piece about how Philbin should get fired and how we will be a last place team the following season.

I would expect that they might try to extend Odrick this offseason, and sign Soliai (or much less likely, sign Starks). Its obvious they know what they have in Odrick based on all the moves this offseason. As long as they both stay healthy, I'd be surprised at any other result.

Actually scratch that, I could see us holding off on Odrick another year, but I think it would be foolish. The type of move that takes you from DL as a strength - to average.

    Just my hopes anyway haha

Yes and its been confirmed by Starks and his agent.

Him and other dlineman were smack talking to each other. They were ribbing him for not having a sack yet.

Have you honestly never flicked off a buddy in response to smack?

Hyde's was really well written and well explained. This is an opportunity. People shouldn't shun it and castigate reporters for bringing it up. First off, the reporters aren't making this up. These players are angry and they're complaining. It's stupid IMO to pretend the reporters are just making up a story out of nothing. Randy Starks' agent is blasting the team, Paul Soliai's agent is blasting the team, and Mike Wallace CLEARLY pointed his finger straight at the coaches and the game plan in the wake of his 1 catch outing. And a source close to him said he was "livid" about it. Later he tried to backtrack and say he's only frustrated with himself, but other players commented on it straight up saying they understand his frustration, etc. Other players are also aware of Soliai's and Starks' anger and according to Armando, the ones that have commented, agree with them.

This is a story. It's a tough situation to deal with.

I don't know why everyone should be so allergic to it though. This is football. You can't win a football game if you don't actually play a football game. And if you play a football game you might lose, you might get hurt. You also might win.

You can't be a good coach if you never have to face adversity and overcome it. Look at the reports of what John Harbaugh had to deal with in Baltimore en route to a Super Bowl. There's stuff about players only meetings, Ed Reed and other veterans blasting him, etc. He held all that together and won a Super Bowl because he's a great coach. Isn't that what we want? And shouldn't we be happy to start finding out if Philbin has what it takes SOONER rather than later? It's not like it's TOO soon. He's no rookie head coach anymore. The excuse fountain has run dry.

I like the drama that has unfolded. I don't hate it. I like it. To this point, as Muck so eloquently put it, Joe Philbin has been able to simply "excommunicate" any problems he's had with players. Bye bye Chad OchoCinco, bye bye Brandon Marshall, bye bye Vontae Davis. Bye bye Karlos Dansby, Davone Bess and Kevin Burnett. He hasn't necessarily had to tackle issues head-on. Considering the guys involved in this, he won't be able to do that. It would probably be a mistake to let both Soliai and Starks walk next offseason, and Wallace is going to be here a long time.

So get your popcorn ready. This is why the NFL is the NFL.

Buying into what, you don't think there's a chance that the smack that was being talked could of been that Randy was a backup in the game and his teammates were teasin him a bit to make fun if the situation? And because of that ribbing he flipped'em off after the sack in a joking manner?..

Maybe my post didnt clarify that I don't think he did it in an aggressive manner..

I don't think there's much to see. Wallace can keep crying all day, Philbins job is to win the game, not appease mike Wallace. Ergo, joe is 1-0 right now. Both soliai and Starks HAVE to play if they want bigger contracts. Meaning they can't keep this up.

Philbin doesn't have to do a damn thing but coach the gameplan. Mike Wallace is part of that, I'm really shocked he pulled this so early. The ball will come his way. Starks though? We already sent a message to him loud and clear. Odrick can and will replace you.

I think soliai has a new deal by week 8

I broke down and read the Hyde article. (I won't read the Omar one.)

There are certainly problems in the Hyde article:

    1. He claims you might expect Ross to like big personality coaches. That's a out of left field and I'm not sure why anyone would think that. But it certainly hints of negativity for no reason other than color for the article.
    2. He cautions to not over react about these 2 problems but then the rest of the article making the problems bigger and more significant than they are.
    3. Fails to mention that Wallace was targeted a total of 5 times, which would be a prudent thing to do if you you're going to frame the argument that Wallace was pissed at coaches.
    4. He continues to push the narrative that the Starks bird had to do with his contract. There is no actual evidence that it has anything to do with that. That is pure assumption and since its baseless assumption, it is not an actual problem.
    5. He then incorrectly claims that Tannehill never so much as looked in Wallace's direction in the first half and says its wrong for that happen. Not only is not true, but its not wrong if it did happen, and its ridiculous to suggest it is....after a convincing win!
    6. Claims Philbin has limited communication skills. Complete and utter bull ****. He may not divulge every detail to the media but he certainly does not have a lack of communication skills.
    7. Insinuates there's problems with Tannehill, Hartline with the Wallace thing and problems with Odrick and Misi over the Starks thing. No evidence exists that those problems happened.
    8. Restates the false narrative that these are a problem with the team that could become major issues.
    9. Finally, he does all this under the wrong assumption, that Philbin hadn't dealt with any of the issues by then, which was Monday.

I'm sorry but that was hack piece full of click producing speculation and very little actual substance. Maybe some people are too clouded by their previous working relationship with Hyde to give an objective take on his piece.

Soliais game is being a giant Mofo who eats up blockers and stuffs the run. That kind of player can play well into his mid 30s.

Starks is more of a penetrating DT. His usefulness will fall off before pauls. case in point, when we ran the 34, Starks was the de, and soliai the nt

I'm not disputing the validity of the stories. It's the timing and motivation of the stories I object to.

Soliai and Starks want new deals, everyone's known this for months. Now their agents are leaking stories in order to increase pressure on Dolphin management and the local media is rushing in to assist them.

Wallace was frustrated because the coaches didn't do a better job scheming him into the Browns game, no one is disputing that. But the over arching issue is this: Miami won the game going away w/ virtually no contribution from either it's running game or it's shiny new deep threat. When the Colts put the tape on they're gonna see Wallace behind Joe Haden on several occasions, Hartline and Gibson consistently winning their one on one matchups, and Ryan Tannehill making sharp/accurate throws to his secondary options virtually all game long. Wallace is going to get his, trust me.

No tougher than what the Pats, Jets, Bills are dealing with.

I'm allergic to it because it's so blatantly self serving, not to mention bad for the team. If agents and media people have a beef with the Dolphins that's their problem. I'm just a fan. I want what's best for the team and Soap Opera news coverage aint it.

I'll be more ready to call Harbaugh a great coach if he's able to continue his success now that those coach blasting veterans have left the team.

You like drama, I like drama, we all like drama. I like Science Fiction too, but I don't take it seriously.

Has Ireland shown any propensity to not do the right thing when it comes to his guys and contracts in general..

I think waiting for the season to play out and seeing where the players ceilings are at this point in their careers before he offers the deal isn't that bad, Starks is being compensated handsomely for that luxury, and As fas as Solai goes, what has Ireland done to not think that an offer will come during the season?

Did he start Sunday? - He put up great film Sunday! I don't think that Cleveland game hurt his market value at all. Starks should be starting in Indy on Sunday - Anything else is a management fail.

We didn't have to franchise Starks ! If it is such a wonderful thought to let Starks go next year, why franchise the guy this year? Save the 8 million and change and let him test the Market. Cincy just signed the best defensive tackle in football to 55/5. Thats 11 mil a year.

Starks has given us five solid seasons, where he hasn't missed a single game...and suddenly it's @#%@ Starks. NO - @$%@ YOU. I'm with Starks on this one. I like the guy, I think he is a great football player to have on your team and I want him here next year.

I don't care if he flipped off Philbin. We're making it more than it is and if Starks starts on Sunday in Indy, all will be well with that.

With Starks I see I guy who wants to be recognized as a baller and plays like he wants to be recognized ! I see you Starks - Your a baller bro.

    With Wallace - I see a cry-baby. Mike Ocho-Cinco-Dos Wallace.

I love the fact that these guys are upset at not getting the contract quickly and at the rate the wanted, but came out like a bunch of crazed dogs..

I'll go out on a limb and say they will both be Miami dolphins in the future, and all will be well, they are our leaders, and they are relatively young, no reason not to retain our home talent.

also in philbin´s lates PC, chris perkins showed embarrassing rule knowledge, he asked coach something like " i noticed that at the end of the first half you gave your red flag to one of your assistants...why".....philbin looked at him kind of disgusted and said "because there are no challenges inside of 2 minutes"....ouch

I have no clue Deej, there's no way to know based on the information available. Kinda like the debate over how much say Ireland had prior to Parcells departure.

Because of Odrick, Starks is running low on leverage so I'm not surprised his sleaze ball agent is taking to twitter. I love him as a player but he skipped OTAs and yeah, the team is punishing him for it. Not sure I agree with it but I understand they want to send a message to other players who may be thinking of trying something similar.

Just in general, I don't think he hasn't offered a contract to a player we all wanted to keep..

Seems like we have ourselves a threesome that can potentially dominate on the inside, and the outside athletes that can pressure..someone might have to swallow a some pride to make it happen, should be an interesting development..

Same thing with Koa and Vern when Dion is full go.

I look at it as a positive. Soliai and Starks have to put out good tape for potential FA suitors, Miami included. Odrick has to ball out to keep Starks at bay. Vernon and/or Misi have the 3rd overall pick to worry about. I know not everyone is glass half full on this stuff but there's no denying one thing.

    Our DL is sick.

You're saying don't post links without your thoughts, and that's not a fair request, IMHO. wow, Starks should fire his agent immediately on the grounds of sounding like a whiny b***h who doesn't seem to know jack shlit about football.

LOL at his "competition" diatribe. If there were a better run stuffer on this team than Soliai, he'd be starting over Paul. If there was another elite, left-side-dominant pass rusher on this roster, he'd be in competition with Wake. I guess this genius doesn't realize there's a 1st round DT on the roster who deserves a fair shake to compete for the job. Paige acts like it's some sort of conspiracy, like we preemptively drafted Odrick in the 1st round four years ago in anticipation of this very scenario. Either that, or he doesn't understand basic math- that when you go from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3 it can also mean going from 3 starting defensive tackles to 2. Considering there's only one nose tackle in a 3-4 but two DE's, it's gotta take a dimwit to not understand those two DE's might end up competing for the lone 3-tech 4-3 DT spot while Soliai continues serving as the clogger in the middle. If Starks were more capable of stuffing the middle he'd be starting over Soliai, but we all saw how that turned out in 2010 when we tried transitioning Starks to 3-4 NT. He wasn't the same player, and Soliai established then that he's clearly better suited for the position. Hey so wait a minute Tony Paige, isn't that considered "competition"? Was Wake handed the job when JT & Porter were on the roster? Starks will still log a considerable amount of snaps but, like Baltimore and many other defenses, we prefer to keep guys fresh and utilize a quality rotation, so this seems like the case of an agent acting out on behalf of his future commission's best interest.

If I were Starks and saw my agent publicly talking disruptive smack like this during a season I'd yank him aside by his ridiculous two hundred dollar tie and tell him to STFU.

Yeah, as far as Odrick and Starks go, I figure over the season, the snaps will probably even out a little more than they did the first game. But Odrick is 25 years old and Starks is 29 -- while that doesn't seem like a lot of difference, for guys playing the interior and then rushing the passer from the inside, I have no problem giving the younger guy a few more snaps over a game and the older guy a few less to keep them both fresh and playing at a peak level, so long as they are both competent and relatively interchangeable. I think that's the case with these two.
