Yup, i saw the same thing, with the CB at least "Impeding his progress" on at least one deep ball That's a good point. He did call out the game plan, other than that, he didn't say too much, just couldn't hide his disappointment. If they don't draw something up to get him the ball earlier next week, then i might start worrying more. Someone brought up a good point about GB's receivers disappearing for games at a time (if you've had them on your FF team...). It's pick your poison for the opposing D, looks like our WR corps may now be good enough to force the same.
Seems like facing Vontae Davis next week will be a nice way to be able to feed Wallace the ball more. Not that I think Vontae is terrible - but Joe Haden is a much better player. Also - it appeared the one deep ball on the sidelines had wallace slowing up for a few steps and then the ball being just barely overthrown. Did anyone see this? I was at the game so couldn't see a replay. Between that, the drop, and the other deep ball that was nearly picked where he stumbled, I'm not sure the gameplan was even the biggest culprit of his quiet day.
Wallace seems to be doing some back-peddling in reflection.... http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9655382/mike-wallace-miami-dolphins-clears-air-comments
Didn't look like back pedaling to me. It looked more like clarification for all those folks who like to take a mole hill and turn it into Mount Everest.
Not sure if mentioned already but Sherman said he doesn't mind Wallace's attitude and in fact likes it because he is competitive.
I think what bothers me the most about this issue is that when the nat'l media should be talking about our DL and about how Tanny led us to a victory with no running game to support him, all the talking heads are talking about is Wallace and his already starting crap, even tho we won the game. This guy was pissed because he didn't get the ball enough and instead of keeping it in house and biatching to his coaches and teammates (ONLY they can make a difference anyway, not the media), he spouts off... Now Philbin and co. have done some PR repair work, but damage is done.... On a related note, how about the coverage we got yesterday....30 secs on ESPN wrap up, NO mention during half time of the Sunday night game (even tho they reviewed EVERY other game played Sunday) and I watched 2 hrs of NFLN and got about 1-30 secs of coverage during that span....??
What exactly did Wallace say, that would constitute spouting off? When asked about the game plan, he said they should go talk to the coach about that, and otherwise had nothing to say.
So the Miami media and fans made a big deal out of something that turned out to be pretty insignificant? Shocker. There's no doubt Wallace was upset about a lack of touches yesterday (whether it was the gameplan or himself), but this is a non-issue. Most star WRs want the ball. Steve Smith, who is one of the best in the game for about a decade, once told Dan LeBetard he would not be happy if his team won the Super Bowl and he was held without a catch. That has become the nature of the position. This is not some kind of locker room cancer though. The guy wanted to have a big game with a lot of eyes on him in his first game after signing his big contract. That didn't happen. Nothing to see here.
I agree with that, but I'm guessing that Ireland was baby sitting Wallace because he was supremely pissed and liable to go off. I like his fighting spirit, but haden is one heck of a CB, he won this round. Wallace will have his day, and soon. Starks- the biggest flying finger since Myley Cyrus. I'd be more concerned with that one, not good form to flip off the coaching staff, bench, whatever it actually was. Not a huge deal, but it sure seems symptomatic of an organization that has been pissing off players lately. I don't want to see core players like Jake Long take off and give the FO the metaphorical finger anymore.
Jake's core is long faded...he still had the attitude of a superior player, just didn't have the rest of it.
I love this quote from the article: but... but... Armando said he was single covered all day.... Further proving that Armando is a dolt.
Chris Mortensen was saying the same thing on ESPN. That it's good to see that he cares and wants to be productive even though he got his paycheck already. It's a good point but still bugs me he threw a fit after a nice WIN. Either way, it's over with now. Thankfully.
He needs to get over it and just a heads up Mike, in Week 10 against the Buccs, you will be a decoy again and likely won't have a single catch. Just so you know. So hope you're ready to run 60 yard streaks about 50 times that game.
He stormed off after the game and didn't talk to the media. The media said he was visibly upset and irritated. Whatever you want to call it, it shouldn't be happening.
If we go 11-5, he averages 1 catch for 15 yards a game while drawing double or more every streak, well worth the money. That won't happen though...he'll get his...shoulda had a big one in that game if not for the blatant disruption by Haden who knew he was beat. The writing's on the chalkboard, he's gonna get some long TDs this year.
We have a whole lot more to worry about than Wallace's attitude or Starks fingers. If we don't develop a running game and have better play from our offensive line we are headed for troubles.
Mike Wallace is not really a high drama "diva" type WR. The closest he's ever come is holding out for a new deal in Pitt. Can't blame anyone for that, see Dustin Keller for an explanation. Guy didn't have a good game, was frustrated, and he did the right thing, by refusing to comment on the situation in the heat of them moment. I wasn't worried about this "situation" yesterday nor am I worried about it today. Dolphin fans are such pearl clutchers.
That's the portion I am addressing. That itself right there is a complete thought. No selective editing. Vincent Jackson draws double coverage and drops 140 burger. That's worth the money. Dol-Fan Dupree There is no way one can definitely say, because one guy drew double coverage all year we made the playoffs. If he didn't draw double coverage, we most definitely wouldn't have made the playoffs. If we make the playoffs and he makes one catch a game, I'm looking at to the players who actually produced as money well spent. There are only 3 players making more money than Mike Wallace. He needs to produce. Brandon Gibson and Tanehill probably aren't going to catch 1,500 yards each. That production needs to come from Wallace. Just as an aside, Lesean McCoy just name dropped Mike Wallace (for some reason) discussing Desean Jackson, saying DeSean is the best deep threat in the league. Saying he isn't just fast, but has talent.
You can look at the film and come to the conclusion. I want wins. Football is like chess and sometimes you have to sacrifice a bishop to get checkmate. Still it is unrealistic for Mike Wallace to end with 16 catches for 240 yards on the year.
But you have to assume, with certainty, these players don't make the plays they did if Wallace isn't here. Does it help? Yes. Is it the very reason that pushed us over the playoff hump? $60 million question. And Yes, very unrealistic. Which is my point. It ain't happening, and quite frankly I'd be happy we made the playoffs but not $60 million for a decoy. Like I said, Vincent Jackson draws double teams, makes about the same and drops a fricking hammer on DBs with similar 20+ plays, slightly less on the 40+ plays.
Ahhhh foooey. We had a monster running game with Ricky "Smoke em" Williams which despite the judgement of some is still the 2nd greatest running back I was fortunate enough to see live. I've said this so many times but I'll continue to say it; this isn't our fathers NFL anymore. Smashmouth football gives way to air it out. It's precisely why Wallace was worth the price tag and even though he wasn't the main focus on Sunday, you see the evolution of football. You adapt or die. The drives continued. The 3 and outs dissipated. And even though it's ideal to waste the clock on the ground, we did it in the air. With all of our success, in true Dolphin form, we left points on the field and that is not going to cut it against the elite. We still lack the killer component. We let teams hang around and even though it resulted in a win, its a trend we need to break. The moment we see our Phins put away a team precisely when they should be put away, then, then we'll know. Until that day, we have a lot of work to do. And in the meantime, we need to do a better job game-planning to get the ball in the hands of a talent that has more potential to score on a simple screen over any other player on our roster.
Wins. Sure. We're so desperate, so hungry. Any win is that first swallow of wine after crossing the desert but Wannstedt was a winner. Fiedler was a winner. Nah, man. I'll take mere wins because my soul needs them. But i want to destroy football teams. And i certainly want to destroy a football team when its evident that we should be destroying them. I want to know, i want the world to know that the Miami Dolphins are a powerhouse. Honestly, its the only change that can make up for the embarrasment of the past several years . And you, i, us- we desreve it. It's one thing to be so bad that its out of the question but Tannehil is ready and able. Its only the first week and i can see it. Lets flip the naz switch and not settle for dog fights. Domination is my motivation... leading to a win no doubt.
