This information just has me sitting here incredulous with WTH?? going around and around in my head.

How are you supposed to have any respect for management when the OL is this weak and their efforts at adding competition and depth are so pathetic.

There was some talent out there to be had, in fact, there still is in some areas.

    Jason Weaver?????? Really

Why not a couple better prospects at safety on the bottom of the roster and the practice squad?

Well, it certainly looks like there is talent out there, but only if we agreed with PFF's assessments.

I read somewhere that Ross had looked into getting an analytics service this offseason. I can;t believe we don't already have one. A billion dollar company running without the type of servie some fans get for $29.95 seems ludicrous. I'm sure the NFL teams get WAY more data, and way better data too.

Would love to know which teams had analytics providers, to see if it tended to be more successful franchises.

Still don;t understand our lack of interest in Reid Fragel. Guy is mobile, good strength. Perfect, no.. but then again, compared to what we've got?

He has a knee thing, but ya, I wanted to draft the guy. The kid is really strong and an athlete to boot.

I also wanted to draft Luke Marquardt late as well but the 49ers have him stashed on the pup. If they try to release him later on and sign him to the practice squad, they should grab him.

I also believe Michael Bamiro has more potential than Will Yeatmen.

GM? If I would have been GM the last few years this is what the team would look like:

    QB:...... Kaepernick,Drew Stanton
    RB........sproles,michael bush,javon ringer
    WR.......vincent jackson,hartline,ted ginn,marquiess goodwin,rishard matthews
    te.........jimmy graham.jordan cameron,jerron mastrud
    ol.........long,incognito,matt birk/barrett jones,marshall yanda,jared veldheer

Defense would still be a 3-4 and Mike Nolan would still be DC.

    DL.......soliai,Starks,desmond Bryant,Wake,Michael johnson
    ILB......Luke Kuechly,Karlos dansby
    S........Earl Thomas,kam chancellor,Cooper Taylor
    CB.......Keenan Lewis,Vontae Davis,Dwayne Gratz

I would never have drafted Ted Ginn but as long as he was here I would have kept him for ST's.

I'm sure I had some better thoughts at RB, but I can't remember where I was at on that issue in the past. I never would have drafted Daniel Thomas anywhere but I don't know who I really thought was a good prospect 3-4 years ago. I know I liked Ben Tate but I don't know where at.

I don't know what happened with Vontae really but It would have had to have been really bad for me to let him go.

I hated the Brandon Marshall trade and the trade down resulting in Odrick and Misi.

I hated letting Nolan go and switching to the base 4-3.

I didn't cherry pick these players. These are all players I posted constantly about on other forums.

I was ridiculed off a certain site for saying Kaepernick would be in the HOF and be a better QB than Elway ever was.

If I was GM I would have lobbied to hire Chip Kelley years ago, although I am very happy with Philbin, but Sparano was awful.

Hindsight makes every armchair QB think they are a genius and could have assembled the ultimate team. doesn't work like that.
Even if I gave you credit for CKaep, I'd have to take it away for Mike Nolan. While he runs a good defense, he's never had a great defense. I'd argue that our defense under Coyle is better than anything Nolan could have put together.

Every arm chair GM does that. If I put together my roster from the players I wanted signed/drafted it looks impressive as well. Heck even people here who obviously know little about football can point out players they wanted that succeeded. But reality is that you can't just swap players like you do in Madden, fit matters. Players that have succeeded else where may not have done so here. We all think we're smarter than everybody else and can point to our right calls as proof and to self aggrandize but it's all crap.

If you were as good of a GM as you're imagining, we would have had a better record each year and we would've had no chance to draft Kuechly or E. Thomas. Anyone can look back and throw together an all-star team based on guys they've liked each year.

For some reason, my thoughts go back to the first season and first episode of Arrested Development when Buster was made president of the company, sat in the board meeting, and slipped, nearly comatose, off the chair and under the table.

Not sure why my mind slips to that when someone says, "If I would have been GM...", but it does.

All I know is IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN GM, there'd be way more people saying "**** Finrunner!!!" than I'd care to think.

You are absolutely right of course, but wouldn't it have been so much nicer picking late because the Dolphins were actually a good team.

Don't misunderstand; I didn't post this to self aggrandize. I posted it to show, again, and in a different way, how mind blowingly stupid Jeff Ireland is.

If these were the players that I was passionate about sitting in my armchair where it's just me and my media; and they were so successful(most of them), why in the world can't Jeff Ireland with all his resources do a better job?

I'll tell you why: Because he is a football idiot!!!!!!

He is arrogant, presumptious, and perniciously stubborn, killing season after season.

Ireland is so bad I find myself missing Nick Saban.

    Yo..Cut tracker...check it...strait from jet magazine..

There's this thing called the salary cap, if we were able to spend more than the other guys it's because of our own doing..

This is our position, we spent what is perceived to be a lot of money, but Guess what, WE ARE 2ND IN THE N...F....L..UNDER THE SALARY CAP!!!!...at 20,452,000..

Please let that sink in when it comes to the national narrative..

We deserved to spend that money on players, and we still are #2 in space under...that blows me away, and tells me that if we can get to an 8 and 8 or 9 and 7, were on a good path to compete long term..

    Am I missing something.

People that hold to your attitude have been saying similar things for over a dozen years and the Dolphins still haven't won a playoff game in all that time; and the only time we did make the playoffs it was due more to Chad Pennington than anyone else.

Ireland and his scouting staff stink. Ross should get rid of the lot of them. There are a couple people who post on this forum that I'd rather see making the decisions.

My great hope is that an intelligent (win now attitude) gazillionaire would make Ross an offer he couldn't refuse and the new owner would come in and immediately clear out Ireland and his whole scouting staff.

So we had cap space a young team full of players that can be extended and a young promising QB for a dozen years? Really? What team are you a fan of again?

Wow...you wouldnt have drafted any busts...you should really send your resume to NFL owners. Most teams hit on about 60% of their draft picks. You are way above that. That is outstanding. Great job.

After his two ridiculous seasons in the CFL, everyone was on board bringing him in. Cheap player with a high ceiling. Still, kudos to whomever made that signing possible (Ireland, Parcels, etc...). Ireland def. deserves credit for that new contract though... Bargain basement price for his ability and production.

No offense bro, but this team isn't that good.

-RB position is terrible. Sproles is good out of the backfield, but that's about it. Michael Bush is decent for what he is, but not special. *better than Daniel Thomas
-WR core is pretty much the same except Wallace and Jackson. And it would of been hard to swallow signing VJ to a huge deal given his DUI history in SD. What were you doing at the WR position prior to 2012? Seems like we would of been SOL for 4 years. Basically, 4 years of 2012's real WR core.
    - You would of signed Cogs? Find that interesting, because no one else wanted him given his history. Miami was his last opportunity given his prior behavior.
    - You would of chosen Jake Long > Matt Ryan? What would you have done in the meantime lol? You wouldn't have accomplished any more than Ireland did. No franchise QB, no winning. And if you had chosen JL and had signed Chip Kelly, you realize there's a system issue, right?...
    - You would of chosen Vontae Davis > Hakeem Nicks and Clay Matthews? Even with the red flags? Even though WR and OLB were pressing needs?
    - Kim Chancellor? So you were the one... Jones turned out alright.

Basically, you would of done very similar things to Ireland, with a few changeups, and developed a roster that, for the most part, has only improved the secondary and TE. If you think Ireland is a total idiot and should be fired, I can't see how you can't say the same of yourself. Between 2008-2011, you wouldn't have performed better.

Ireland is absolutely on the hotseat if this team doesn't produce 8 and 8 or better..my point is, and the stance I have chosen to take, considering all variables in studying this team, is that Ireland got the clean slate from me when Parcells left and the new coach came along, I have him responsible for three drafts now and I think that's a proper timeline to start the total evaluation fairly at the end of the year..Now during that time, he got us in position to be top 10 in youth, have a nice free agency, and still stay 20 mill under the cap with a prorated outlook twice that next year, the coach GM relationship deserves this fair timeline imo without holding grudges from before..

At the end of the year lets evaluate, until then tell me what's wrong with the progression if your are looking at it from that starting point?

In the entire history of the NFL the word, "hyperbole" , has never been more appropriate than in referring to John Elway.

The combination of Elway being totally overblown and Kaepernick being sooooooo underestimated epitomizes the stupidity of the general point of view.

The fact is: The majority is almost always wrong!!!

I declared Kaepernick a HOF NFL QB from his sophomore year at Nevada. I stand by my prognostication.

Elway was a crap QB most of his entire NFL career. Go look at the stats. I lived in Denver during his early years. We called him, "Smellway", and deservedly so.

Kaepernick is already better than Elway ever was.

The Dolphins had a wide open opportunity to draft him and they chose instead to draft a C with the 15th pick in the draft. The highest a C had ever been picked in the history of the NFL.

I would have prioritized Matt Birk when he was a free agent and center would never have even been an issue until the 2013 draft when he retired.

As far as the reference to drafting Jake Long, I didn't go that far back, but I would have re-signed him when the other options no longer remained.

Odd, since Marshall Yanda is on your team yet he was drafted the year before Jake Long, and has never been really available as a FA since he signed a contract extension literally the day after the new NFL season began in 2011.
