I personally have us at around 12 to 14, but there are various rankings out there, here's a few of them:

    SB Nation http://www.sbnation.com/2013/4/24/4260774/nfl-power-rankings-2013-49ers-seahawks-broncos
    19. Dolphins
    Average: 19.1 | Highest: 11 | Lowest: 24
The Dolphins were big spenders in free agency. Will it pay off in the tough AFC East?
** NOTE ** the Highest (11) and Lowest (24) is supposed to show where they ranked on several other rankings high-low.

    CBS Sports http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer...ngs-niners-slide-ahead-of-shorthanded-broncos
    22. Miami Dolphins: Lots of offseason hype. Maybe they live up to it, but the pass protection is an issue. Replacing Reggie Bush isn't easy and the secondary will get tested.

    Bleacher Report http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...13-breaking-down-each-team-on-verge-of-season
    23. Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins did a nice job of giving second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill some new weapons in the passing game. However, he isn't going to have much time to get it to them. It will be interesting to see if his career will survive the lack of protection.

    ESPN http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings
    18 | Dolphins | 7-9
Last Week: 19 The Dolphins focused on bringing in playmakers on defense, beginning with Oregon linebacker Dion Jordan. But they forgot to find someone to protect Ryan Tannehill's blind side. (Hensley)

Bear Goggles (Chicago Bears Fans) http://beargoggleson.com/2013/08/31/nfl-power-rankings-week-1/2/
    14. Miami Dolphins - The Fish have new weapons and Tanneyhill is in his second season so the Dolphins will have a real shot at winning the AFC East with the Patriots in disarray. (They ranked the Patriots 17th)

    Sports Illustrated http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nf...wer-rankings-baltimore-ravens-denver-broncos/
    18 Miami Dolphins (7-9)
Only one team that scored less points than the Dolphins last season finished above last place in its respective division. That team? The Jets. So, the Dolphins bolstered their O-line and handed WR Mike Wallace a massive deal. The points, then, should come. And if the defense posts another top-10 finish, Miami can contend in the AFC East or swipe a wild-card spot.

I would be thrilled if we were the 12th best team in the NFL. It would show a real jump in progress.

I don't mind these rankings. If Miami proves itself, then it will climb up the rankings.

They're all pretty generic in their analysis. None of them seem to know a thing about our actual team. All per usual.

However, in the CBS one, that's questioning our secondary.......that's just asinine.

The general consensus around the nation, including in Las Vegas, is that the Dolphins will win 7 or 8 games this year. I tend to agree with this assessment of the team. I think the OL and the secondary remain huge question marks and we just don't yet know if Tannehill is the long term answer at the QB position for the Dolphins.

The game this week against the Browns is a must win if the Dolphins have any thoughts of having a winning season this year. A loss this week could lead to a 1-4 or 0-5 start to the season and it will be difficult for this team to even win 7 games this year if they don't beat the Browns this weekend.

The Dolphins have quality starters in Grimes and Jones in the secondary. Other than those two starters, everyone else is a huge question mark. I can understand why CBS is questioning the Dolphins secondary heading into the season.

I really think this year we are going to be able to keep teams off balance with a good passing attack and a good running game. You throw in the read option a little and I think the protection of the offense line could become somewhat of a mute point. Are there going to be sacks given up, of course. We really need to improve our screen game, we dont disguise it very well and the timing of the screens are usually predictable.

While the secondary may indeed be better than last year, it is a young unit and a unit that has yet to play a regular season NFL game together. I forsee more INT's but by no means will this be a SHUT DOWN unit. NFL teams adjust, and those that do their homework, will play this defense with a pass first mentality. They will spread us out and force those young DB's onto the field. If I had to lay a number on it - 20th in the league vs. the pass this season.

EVERYONE knows our O-line sucks and that means no running game and Tannehill running for his life. It's going to be another long season for the offense. What good are shiny new recievers when you don't have time to get them the ball.

    7-9 sounds about right.

When someone said we better beat Cleveland, they couldn't be more right. I don't think we will beat Cleveland however, not up there and not their home opener. They will be able to protect Weeden and run Trent enough for the win. They are going to be pumped up for their home opener. Final Score Cleveland 24 Miami 23 (Sturgis misses the game winner from 50+ that oughta help the fans rationalize it away.)

If we win at Cleveland not much will change, but if we lose, we will plummet in the rankings.

We could have Revis and Surtain in his prime and you'd question it.

Jones and Clemons are statistically Top 3 safety tandem in the league. Grimes is a pro Bowler. Our secondary is better than 90% of the league at this point. Most teams don't have great players at every position, its time some of you stopped acting like they do. Our secondary is rock solid as is our dline. These two (plus our STs), should X, Y, Z on anyone's concerns list.

Clemons is far from a question mark. He's a known commodity. Not amazing but by no means is he bad. Patterson is also a known commodity. Not bad but probably out of position. The rookies, sure, but otherwise there's no way you can call two veterans question marks.

You can when the top guy in the secondary is coming off a complete achillies tear. He picks off a pass in the preseason and he is once again a Pro-Bowler. In the Tampa game he was a step behind and got smoked on several plays.

Grimes will never be a Pro-Bowl CB again. It is not because I don't desire it to be so, if you have ANY experience at all with a complete achillies tear, you CANNOT be the same player after this injury. It is physically impossible.

If Usian Bolt rips his achillies in half - Do you honestly believe he is running for Olympic medals ever again. You lose a step.

Grimes losing a step may indeed prove to be better than what we had, but this isn't the 2010 Brent Grimes Shut down / All Pro CB.

Seriously, is that what this place is supposed to be?? A Dolphin heaven where we all bury our head in the sand and collectively get our hopes shattered? Just tell me straight...Fin D.

We are headed in the right direction, after coming off a 1-15 season and the worst Dolphins team ever. This doesn't happen overnight.

If we put together an O-line, add a few more pieces to the puzzle, we will make the playoffs next year. Which would be amazing for a third year Head Coach/QB.

But I'll stop assessing this team. I am not trying to ruin your Dolphin Heaven...

You're off your meds this morning. HTF do you jump to rambling about All pro and Pro-bowl from what KingMo said?
He implied the guy was a solid corner and he is, and you jump in with your typical BS hyperbole. Even Revis at the top of his game got smoked by Ginn and other lesser talents on occasion.

I'm perfectly capable of coherent, even-keeled thought, thanks. I don't need bi-polar extremes affecting my thinking.

While 16-0 and a SB win is the goal of all teams, I understand (as do Belichek and Brady) just how hard that is to accomplish. Doesn't mean I have to dog the Dolphins "new" team each pre-season before I know how the season will actually play out. And no, that is not an invitation for more of your "forsight".

Ok - pick any of the three - Lets put it up.

    1. The Dolphins finish with a better record than Buffalo (Not tied)
    2. The Dolphins finish with a winning record
    3. The Dolphins make the playoffs

I'll leave this site forever if you select the winner.

Think of it man, you only have to stomach my insight for less than a season. (I'll stick around for the crow - How unfair would that be)

Never stops with you... if you're not talking s**t, you're starting some new s**t.

As far as the crow, you don't have to stick around for it, because no one but you cares. You're not wanting to honestly discuss the Fins, you're wanting to enforce your own ideas and pretend to know more than everyone else, then wanting to be able to say "I told you so" if something negative happens at any point.

I don't care if you stay or go, I just don't want your negativity and over the top hyperbole interjected constantly.

Then use your ignore button. I can tell you it is not negativity however, just an honest assessment on where we are at.

And if it means winning a playoff game and having a better team than I actually see, I don't want to be right. You can believe that.

No it's not an "honest assessment". It's merely your OPINION. You accuse the "positive" people of being "homers" and having a skewed opinion of the team, while refusing to acknowledge that your own opinion is skewed, of that the team neither as good or bad as both parties often state.

Guys like myself and FinD and others are not blind to the faults of the team, we just don't dwell on the negatives or dog the team before we have actually seen them perform over a given period. We also realize that you cannot make predictions based off the pre-season or even last season as each team and schedule is "new" each season.

I know you're capable of actual, well thought out discussion, and occasional humor. Dial back the negativity and hyperbole, stay on topic of a given conversation, and no one will have an issue with you. Football is my downtime. I want to enjoy it, not argue with you.

    Typical logic:

"Our starting OL is awful! Look at what happened in *insert preseason game*! We should have picked Lane Johnson!"

"Brent Grimes made an interception, but it's just preseason and he hasn't shown signs of recovering from an achilles tear, just because I feel it to be this way."

That is your view of the secondary, but your view isn't shared by the majority of the nation. The majority opinion of the Dolphins by most experts is that they will once again be a solid MEDIOCRE team this season.

I hope the Dolphins are as good as you think they will be, but I think I am just being realistic going into the season. I'll be at their games in Miami this season rooting for them to win, as well as in New Orleans to watch them play the Saints. I want them to win every game and end up SB champions. I just don't see enough talent on this roster to get them to the playoffs or even to win 9 games this season.

I know you would like nothing better than to be able to tell me after the season that I was completely wrong about this team and Ireland. Actually I would love it if you are right about this team and I am wrong. I guess we will just have to wait until the end of the season to see how this team develops.

I'm actually predicting an 8-8 to 10-6 season, why can't there be a middle ground? This team beat the talented Seahawks last year, and you can't just depend on preseason W-L picks. You lose some you don't expect to lose, you win some you don't expect to win. An interesting fact being tossed around in another thread is that half of this team is a rookie or are entering their second year, we are building a seriously young and talented football team. What I don't want is a team that makes it to the playoffs and then peters out in the following years after that. Just don't understand all the doom and gloom.
