Ireland makes the call I believe but yes the coaches I'm sure have a say in it and deserved blame when bad personal moves are made.
Frankly I think that's bull****. because teams can't start compiling their PRACTICE SQUADS until after NOON ET, the deadline for the waivers had passed.
So this all came down to the vet 27 year old Martin or 22 year old with potential in Francis.. Well, damn, this sucks, not much else to say, just hope he made the right decision.
Yeah its a mutual decision but first and foremost the Coaches make it. They are the ones who are working the players directly, not Ireland.
Yes for most cases, but Francis had a preseason where game time he played terrific, you don't need coaches to let you know he's got talent to play and play well in the NFL, I thought he was one of the top three players for the team in the preseason. What happen to Francis is just terrible asset management, period.
Called this move yesterday, it was clear as day to me the Pats would claim him. They are extremely thin on the DL and Francis played well in the pre-season. Plus Belicheck loves nothing more than taking our cast-offs and turning then into solid players.
People go off topic around here all the time, and about things far less related than nutrition. That you blame me for this is upsetting, considering I was not the one who brought up what players should eat.
Jeff Ireland has say on the final cuts. It isn't just Joe Philbin and staff. Ireland himself has described the process and said it's much like the scouting process in terms of scout reviews, cross-checks, coaching input. There are some coaches that have final say on the 53 man roster. Joe Philbin is not among them.
I get the Vaughn Martin argument, but we have food Def lineman being lost to other teams because we have incredible depth at the position. Make fun of Ireland all you want, but the man knows defensive linemen
If nothing else, people are way too up in arms over losing A.J. Francis. He was a developmental DT who looked good against 3rd and 4th stringers. Let it go.
Rodgers has probably the best reputation of any position coach on the team. It is hard for me to blame him here. We all know Miami was loaded and he made the call with others to put the best four players at DT on the roster (Odrick, Soliai, Starks, and Martin). Some of us don't agree with Martin, but we do with the other three. We can't be thinking about Starks being around next year I guess. We deal with the present like tomorrow will come when it gets here and we can go from there. And in terms of Ireland have the final say over the coaches, I have to believe they have significant input. You know Rodgers had input on DL.
I'll let it go when he's no longer with the Patriots. Until then, if he makes plays for them, it will be a poor decision to have let him go. If you had told me that both Kheeston Randall and AJ Francis would not be on the 53 last week, I'd have thought you were insane. It is interesting that the Pats were the only team to put in a waiver claim though (apparently).
IMO, A.J. Francis was never going to be on the 53; he's just not that good and didn't get any reps against guys who were actually going to be playing on Sundays. I think it's telling that they were the only team to put in a claim on him. I'll grant you, Kheeston Randall took me by surprise. But, Kevin Coyle's praised Vaughn Martin for his ability to play DE, and he's also played the 1 and 3 technique spots. Neither Kheeston Randall or A.J. Francis are able to do so.
More disappointed with the 4 wrs and Thigpen strategy, and with the 11 db strategy. However, special teams likely dictated here. And Clutts is more known for his special teams and not his offense. He did not contribute to the Texan offense in 2012, but was a core special teamer. I don't really see him replacing Rodriguez. I am not sure Miami was going to use him as a fullback much even before they cut him.
Typical information in Miami. Getting piece rate information and some of it inaccurate. Not saying we fans are entitled at all. Just creates an information challenge for us.

AJ Francis ends up going to the Patriots, where I expect Belichik will turn him into a productive player on their defensive line. The Dolphins kept 11 secondary players, including Don Jones. I guess moves like this show why the Patriots continue to win the AFC East and the Dolphins have been mediocre, (except for one season), since Ireland became the GM.
Or it could be that Davis and Taylor are hurt and when they're better, we'll drop two DBs and promote McNutt & Tyms. But no, it can't be that, cause....IRELAND!!!!!!
It could be anything when it comes to Ireland. I just think that Francis was much better at his position than Jones was at his. Even if the had cut Jones, they would have still had 10 secondary players on their roster. Since Ireland has FINAL say over all personnel matters, who else would be to blame for this move? To me Francis seems to be a productive NFL player. Jones just didn't do anything in preseason to make me think he will be an effective NFL player. I just have to wonder if Ireland would have kept him around if he hasn't used a draft pick on him. I seriously doubt it.
Eh, at least they all showed some things, looks like we will add an OL, we usually do carry a project OL.
Would make more sense if Thigpen had been used as a Wr in the preseason, now we are a tweaked hammy away from having a serious questions at Wr. I love Thiggy's game, just wanted to see him more at Wr.
Can someone tell me what the % is of an UDFA making his team and playing exceptionally well? It has to be low. That being said, stop *****ing about stupid ****.
