Well, it's time for the annual 2013 practice squad thread. Which will likely be maintained for a brief moment this week and then dissipate like a ... fart in the wind. Updated 9.2.13 Monday AM DT Al Lapuaho WR Brian Tyms WR Marvin McNutt S Jordan Kovacs CB DeAndre Presley C/G Sam Brenner T Jason Weaver TE Kyle Miller Edited... AJ Francis was claimed by the Pats... Please post news regarding the practice squad in this here thread.
Yes!!! Great news about AJ, even better that he spurned the pats... Keep learning that technique big sexy, and please start eating and training correctly, ya hear.
Speculation that Marvin McNutt will be added to the practice squad. No official confirmation though FWIW. I would hope we add two wide receivers actually to the PS. Carrying four, yes Thigpen could count as five, is a bit risky. Also helps out with practice reps.
Practice squad news this first day is very similar to signing UDFA's after the draft. You don't know for sure, until it's official.
He is also reporting the Pats made Francis an offer and he turned them down! I would have been so pissed off.
Could you Imagine being AJ Francis, you have a lot of talent to work with, and now you have a red shirt year to train for your craft so you can explode into the scene next year, and get paid doing so, what a gig.. Set that alarm, hit the gym, and come home to a bowl of egg whites and oatmeal, or egg whites and wheat toast with some good all fruit jelly.
I've often wondered what the true process is for teams trying to purge other team's practice squad guys onto their 53. Can they have contact with the player/agent before taking them off the 53? I mean, what if a player doesn't want to go? It would likely be an unwise decision for that player, I mean they will obviously get more money signing to a 53 (as ps players are paid less). But what if the team holding the practice squad member has an off the books deal with them? It must happen right? I recall losing Jalen Parmele...
Barry Jackson says Brian Tyms will go on the practice squad if he clears waivers. Between he and McNutt that appears to mean they're just cutting Chad Bumphis loose. Which makes no sense to me, but then again they do a lot of things from a personnel standpoint that make little sense to me.
That's what I gleaned from Bumphis' comments yesterday. Didn't sound like he was told they would bring him back.
And very likely he'll get the change to secure a spot in the active rotation next year. As of now we'll probably have openings.
HOLD EVERYTHING!!! fml... Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley 1m Now I’m hearing Francis to New England, but on the active roster. Stay tuned.
****ing #XOMAR Omar Kelly @OmarKelly 1m Teams are wheeling and dealing with practice squad players. Don't count them on until that John Hancock is signed folks.
If he signed with our PS, then in order for them to sign him away, they would have to roster him.if they did that, then he gone..that's a big accomplishment off preseason tape..but, the flashes were surely there.
If we lose Francis because we decided to keep around one too many below average defensive backs my labor day weekend is going to be pissed away. And to the NE to boot.
I understand. But he is a GOOD slot WR. The idea that they need every WR to play on the inside and outside is annoying. Brandon Gibson sucks on the outside but he is doing decent in the slot. But Bumphis is a better slot WR than Gibson. I dont get some of their moves. Also Rishard Matthews is a better WR than Gibson.
Field Yates -The Patriots have claimed DT AJ Francis off of waivers, per a league source. UDFA for Miami this year. Roster now at 52. 4 DT's on roster.
totally agree... it's moronic. It just is. You cut Randall and Francis, keep 11 DB's (Stanford and Jones? Really). Vaughn Martin has one good game. ugh... Patriots are getting a good player for nothing... jesus christ. He must have cleared waivers.. now we are trying to sign him to the practice squad and the pats are saying no.. **** that ****. Why don't we sign him to our 53 and cut Don Jones!?!?! we don't need a fifth safety.
I like AJ but really people, if we kept 10 DB's it was not going to be to keep another DL. Clearly the teams strongest position. Now if you want to argue that we should have kept AJ over Martin that is one thing… but the 11 DB argument doesnt make any sense to me.
I hate to break up this egg whites and dietary discussion, but this thread is about the Dolphins practice squad. I've moved those posts to the Lounge. Head there if you'd like to continue. Next time they'll just be deleted. Thanks
I need to calm down... I'm getting too worked up over AJ Francis. But man, depth at DT? with Vaughn freaking Martin? If we get one injury at DT, he's in the usual rotation. what am I missing?
than you for saying that in a polite way… cause I was about to post the same thing in a rude manner… saved me some trouble with the mods… lol
I was literally on my way to Special Teams meetings when Mr. Ireland stopped me and told me I was claimed by the @Patriots ...Still shocked. Per A.J. Francis
