Is he better than Andre Ellington and/or Kenjon Barner? They both went in the 6th. Also, Spencer Ware, who has looked pretty good this preseason.

I hear ya on the tackling. It was sub-par tonight, and most of the pre-season. Thing is, 32 teams have concerns, no team will EVER go into a season with no major concerns. Took me a long time of bashing and getting pissed off to come to that realization. As fans we'd love our team to have a pro-bowl, HoF'er at every position, and at times we even go so far as to expect it...but it's no more realistic a possibility for our team than any other team.

Not trying to tell you what you see or change your views in any way, but I look at this season this way overall, without a microscope: No area of the team's game is in far worse shape than last year:

Negatives: Depth is a real concern on OL, RBs haven't impressed, tackling hasn't improved.

Positives: Tanny looks more polished, an already good defense is improved, WRs are improved as a unit, secondary is improved and could be scary, coaches/players in the 2nd year of the system. Less penalties I believe.

Unknowns: Play calling improved, same, or worse? Because of Tanny's lack of experience, Sherman said they were limited in the playbook last year. This year they plan on opening it up with a lot more looks/options, and the new WR corps could spread the field much better, making for many more opportunities...remains to be seen however. Can the TEs fill the gap left from the Keller loss? Will the turnovers continue to be in our favor in the regular season? Can we run block better?

So, just like any other year, it could go either way. Last year, nobody who gets paid to predict football had us going 7-9 last year, and we SHOULD have been 9-7, this staff/team has at least shown they can surprise in the upward direction, and I fully believe this year will be the same in that regard. Will there be boneheaded plays and "oh s*** what the hell was he thinking" kinds of plays? Of course...show me a team that is immune.

These are the reasons I'm more optimistic about this season than I have been in a VERY, very long time, and see a 10-6 record and a playoff berth. I don't expect perfection, I just expect a notable improvement over last year. I also expect a long season of close, tough games, where both teams are going to have to fight for everything they get, with the Dolphins winning at least their share of them. Hell, I expect us to spot Cleveland 10, and win 19-13 on the strength of Caleb's leg with 4 field goals! Those are the kinds of games I see coming for the first half of the season.

Good point. I knew I could count on you old friend. :knucks: Even so, I think the first 2 especially, were better prospects. Watching Gillislee trying to turn the corner around left end. Barner could have ran faster going backwards.

By chance did you isolate him in the cowboy game,? the game where Philbin told him he actually played a real game as a tackle, he was right, he looked really good in his reps, if you haven't you should take a closer look and tell us what you think.

I think he's at the point where he's mastering the fundamentals but when he gets knocked off them, he struggles a bit, in that cowboy game he never got knocked off.

He had one play at LT, do not recall which game, where he got beat bad around the corner and allowed a sack. Other than that he looks solid to me.

Ummmm, I would say that on both sides of the LOS we couldn't get any push, couldn't run block, couldn't stop the run, and generated almost no pressure on the Qb, we almost lost the game even though we had 4 turnovers, on their side of the field, in our favor..

The preseason is for man on man formation, I think we've lost those battles all preseason long for the majority except for some defensive stops.

Philbin told us he wants to be a great tackling team, Not tonite, or any other nite this preseason..there were times where it looked like the team wasn't playing hard..

Devlin and Mcnutt hooked up on a long bomb for 6 to win the game in the last minute.

Players that looked like they belong.

    Rishard Matthews..Jamar Taylor..Dion Simms..Caleb Sturgis...AJ Francis..Will Yeatman..Kelcie McCray as a backup...

    Jonas gray shrank his average, doubt he's pushin 3 yards a carry.....Gillessie showed he's just a guy...Jenkins didn't do sh&$..

Gillessie and Jenkins seem like they were bad picks considering who was in the board..

Overall preseason was a disappointment from an overall perspective, but.our starters look to be improved..

Need to pick up a tight end..bad..Kyle miller is not what we're looking for in a developmental player imo.

I would say that's fair, I see Yeatman, Samuda, Thomas as our depth..

Rbs..had no expectations of Gray so if there is someone out there that is better, by all means pounce...Not a fan of Mike G thus far..

Te's..saw some concerning things with miller, he's limited athletically, and I'm not a Clay fan..

So yeah, I would be looking to feed the bottom, or make a trade..

Dont agree on Gilly. He seemed to get stronger and smarter as the game progressed. He's slow off the handoff but he was finding room and getting tough yards. Id love to see him in the open field just to get an idea of break away speed. Some guys are deceptive until they are in a chase. His vision is what kills me the most. He had a few plays there to show the coaches "i dont need to hit the hole. I get yards. Period." But he doesn't see the open backside. He's a rookie showing his stuff behind an atrocious line and he already replaces D.Thomas in my roster. Gilly has upside. if you get smarter as the game goes, believe me there is something there. D.Thomas is just a guy. And whats more, he's proven it. We havent really seen Gilly yet.

Find ways to get the ball to Sims early and often. His confidence grew by the catch. It was blatant to the watchful eye. His body language bore exlamation marks. This is a job for Sherman. No one else. I have zero faith in Sherman but we'll see where that goes. I think Sims can be a Randy McMichael. I don't even know where i get that perception but it hit me.

Nicest surprise of the game: Egnew was a monster on 2 plays I saw, one front and center for all to see as they replayed the pancake he served up for dinner. On the next play, bought a pair of rollerskates for whomever he was blocking. We should've told this guy to put on weight and play line if those 2 plays are an indication of the blocker he's become.

If I'm closing the books, McNutt is out. Bumphis has shown me a higher ceiling. McNutt's effort doesn't get off of the bench for some plays.

My fellow latin was atrocious. We cut Lane too quickly.

Devlin can start in this league. He should've been sacked at least 5 more times than he was. This one play where he did get eventually sacked, the pocket seemed as if a dome had collapsed on him and he stepped forward, right through it as if i were watching Marino. decision-making is impressive. Has trouble throwing rockets over defenders the seam route seems out of the question.

Tackling is nonexistant. That is by no means an exaggeration. It was embarrasing.

I most definitel agree on Jenkins. He looks about as lost as a player can be on the field. Im talkin top 10 lost players and he's battling league wide for #1. We cant cut him. We have to hope coaching will catch on enough for instinct to take over.

In summation, very disappointing. Why? Because we didn't need to be deep at QB and possibly WR. We need depth on the line and defense and it isn't even slightly there. I hope this is just preseason, not going all out (which makes no sense when you're playing for your livelyhood) but as it stands, we EDIT:can't take too many Keller situations anywhere.

I do think we have something to work with in regards to Jelani Jenkins. He's certainly not a thumper on the outside. He's not going to get under a blocker to make a play. He can however get over a blocker (with his speed) to make a play. Where he brings the most is in coverage. A couple of times last night I noticed him cutting with a back and staying on him. So there is a potential ability there as a nickel coverage backer and who knows, with a full offseason in our weight room, maybe something to work with on all three downs. He's a fourth round pick, 104 overall IIRC, and I just don't see him getting cut. He's in the same boat as Dallas Thomas. Probably going to be inactive every game this year. Needs to change his number as well.

So I'm watching the game and Griese at the time of the route and at halftime is complaining that Egnew couldn't get open on a corner route in the endzone, but he had like 2 yds on the guy who was covering him, and Devlin threw the ball pretty much out of bounds. Not to mention Devlin threw it before Egnew really made his move to the corner, so I don't know how he could have "made himself a better target" like Griese was harping on.
