Sucks but at least he's getting it out of the way now while he's still young and the Mets aren't competing.
I mean with over 50 million to spend this offseason and IF Harvey was healthy they MIGHT have been looking at a WC spot.... No worries though, Syndergaard will be a stud and Monetro and DeGrom are just about ready as well. If you need pitching for your fantasy baseball leagues stay tuned to the Mets farm system. Sporting a sub 3 era since the ASB for their starters and all their pitchers are under 27 (and only Niese and Gee have more then a full year of experience)...
Good article on Harvey and his elbow: http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/72614/lets-calm-down-about-matt-harveys-elbow
I know Harvey has a ton of heart but he needs to get the TJS now and just get it over with. It sucks and it's heartbreaking but it isn't worth the risk by trying to get cute. I have a bad feeling they're going to do everything they can to avoid surgery and it's going to backfire and he'll have to get it done anyway at a point where it's even less convenient for him and the team.
Thats not necessarily true rocky. Roy halladay has been pitching with a partially torn ucl for 10 years. Wainright pitched with a partially torn ucl for 7 years.
4 pieces of Mets news... 1. Mets are leaving WFAN radio after this year where they have been for 25 years. NYY are close to an agreement to replace them there. The good news is the Mets dictate who announces their games and are likely to keep Howie Rose and Josh Lewin. 2. Matt Harvey spoke outside a firehouse he was visiting in honor of 9/11 and said the tear in his elbow is small and hes likely to avoid surgery. Visit to Dr Andrews on Monday. 3. Mets are expected to pursue Shin Soo Choo according to Andy Martino of the NY Daily News. Its long been rumored they would pursue him and/or Ellsbury. A bottom 10 finish certainly helps them in this regard (protected draft pick). With all their injuries piling up this shouldnt be a problem though Collins is still getting his players to play hard even if they are overmatched many nights 4. Alderson said the team would pursue an SP this offseason if Harvey needs surgery. IMO Tim Lincecum would be the guy to pursue. Hes pitching better then numbers dictate this year and hes still young enough to recapture the magic. Additionally, hes probably not going to command more then a 3 year deal at this point and maybe he takes a 1 year "prove it deal" while hoping for greener pastures next year.
Well, Matt Harvey is opting for TJS. LINK I guess it's not a big deal that he waited a month or so, exploring all his options. Let's just hope that they have a good team waiting for him in 2015.
Saw this earlier. I had to treat myself to a good steak dinner just to feel a little better about this. The good news is Ive heard a lot of players being mentioned around the mets. Alderson will probably pursue mid-tier fa's and try and trade for a high end power bat. Probably not a bad idea if they wanna try and get Dickey back cheap. Think Toronto would want Syndergaard back?
