I am not sure how he cost us a playoff spot last season. Even if the Dolphins had won the two games Carpenter missed late FG's, this would have only given them nine wins last year. That was not enough to get in the AFC playoffs last year. I think the losses to the Bills and the Titans and not being able to beat the Patriots at least once, had a lot more to do with the Dolphins not making the playoffs than two missed FG's by Carpenter.
A couple years back Carpenter was a Pro bowl kicker, but the last 2 years he has tailed off a bit. He did cost us 2 wins last year when he missed kicks in overtime. However, I do like him and think that perhaps a change of scenery to a good team could help him. And he is a good cold weather kicker, one of the reasons given for drafting him.
Carpenter is no longer a free agent. He was signed by Arizona. I wish him luck. He is competing against another ex Dolphin Kicker Jay Feely.
