NOt sure of their fumbling stats, but doesn't DT fumble more? NOt what I want i the second half as I hold onto a lead unless it's a four touchdown lead.
He's running the zone play properly, staying patient, pressing the hole and letting his blocks develop instead of plowing face first into the LOS hole or not. A huge improvement. I don't think he'll supplant Miller but I'm encouraged by what I've seen so far.
I think that's a little extreme. Whomever displays the best combination of performance and reliability once the season gets underway will earn the starting nod. With Thomas being a 2nd rounder I don't think Ireland will be looking for excuses to have him shelved if he happens to be playing up to his draft potential. I'm guessing our staff would rather see Miller & Thomas become an interchangeable 1a & 1b rather than a distinguishable 1 & 2.
I think that was mostly b/c of his upright running style and running too high through contact. It still needs some work but I think he's improved it to where the fumbles might inherently be reduced.
Someone needs to separate themselves through practice this week and the game. And even if one does (or doesn't) both are likely to get plenty of opportunity this year.
Not sure either, sometimes in this league it's what have you done for us lately... and Lamar Miller fumbled on his first snap of the preseason. I don't think though that either one is necessarily a fumbler. I do think that Thomas, at times, runs too upright and exposes himself for the big hit. Which is something a player who has a history of concussion should try to avoid doing. That is my concern with Thomas. And that's the reason why I'd start every game with Miller with Thomas coming off the bench. It's a psychological thing. This way Miller is ready for each game mentally. And Thomas is pumped up to come off the bench and prove his worth. It's potentially the best of both worlds.
If pro-football-reference.com is correct, in his 256 carries over 2 years, Daniel Thomas has lost 5 fumbles. I remember one of those fumbles was on a play where he got a concussion, I think in the Texans game last year. In his 51 carries last year, Lamar Miller didn't lose a fumble. I'm not sure 51 carries is definitive, but I've seen a lot of guys on this board say he never had a fumbling problem in college, either.
I found it interesting that Mike Wallace singled out E Rod along with Clay and Egg as the players that will have expanded rolls.
I think that's interesting as well. Perhaps that tendency we all kind of guessed at a year ago where the coaches seemed allergic to rookies at offensive skill positions is actually coming into play again?
Interesting-ish article on yahoo. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/fantasy-roto-arcade/first-down-miller-thomas-could-headed-dreaded-timshare-192054771.html The interesting part is the stats that were quoted. (The author makes no mention of where these numbers come from) Career numbers Thomas: 7.9 missed tackle percentage. Miller: 11.2 missed tackle percentage. Which seems to contradict what some people have been saying. But this stat is absolutely damning: Thomas has had 27 carries inside the 10 and came out with only 4 TDS. That is failure. You cannot sugar coat that.
