I too liked Marshall, but felt he was too expensive for security when you've got five other cornerbacks on the roster who I have always felt deserve significant snaps and other areas (WR, RB, DT) where I think we also may want to keep additional players on the roster. I surmise that this isn't a Will Davis thing so much as it is a reflection of Nolan Carroll. This is all relative to how many Fist Pumps a differing opinion gets.
I'm basing it off PFF stats, not some irrational hatred against him because I remember two plays from the season where he was beat.
Well now that he's no longer a Dolphin I expect that all those people who kept arguing with me whenever I would say he was severely overrated as a starting corner will suddenly agree with me.
And with 2 preseason games to go I fully expect Taylor to win that 3rd job and be the boundary guy when Patterson goes inside. Nolan will be fighting for the 4th spot at best. Hell who knows. Maybe they keep Davis at 4 and bring in a waiver wire guy to replace Nolan as the 5th. Either way if the team is confident in Taylor your looking at a guaranteed salary for Marshall who could have been leaped by Taylor a couple games in. Just be happy our CBs look much better then last year.
Oh no, he's just "decent" and that is all he really will be, it took Will Allen yrs to turn into a playmaking Cb, different career arcs as Allen showed more all around skills until he started making more impactfull plays. The textbook NCarroll look is bewilderment as he is in position to make a play, then the ball magically lands in the receivers hands, he's sort of Jason Allen without the turnover ability.
I didn't mean to sound like a dick. Sorry. But that is what I was basing it off. He's an average corner. I mean, if we cut him I wouldn't be upset because I think they will roster someone who has more potential than him. But if he's starting in place of Davis and Taylor until they are ready, I'm fine. He's not that bad.
Hey. At least in the off season when were staring at 7 free agent starters (that I can think of off the top of my head) we will be happy for the space and rollover. Grimes/Patterson/Soliai/Starks/Incognito/Jerry/Clabo. 3/5ths of our line, 2/3rds of our starting DTs and our starting CBs.
Well that much is obvious. I just don't understand why he has this disdain towards him. Especially since he's a Jets fan as byroan pointed out. If it was, let's say, the Chargers who did this, the blurb would read "The Chargers gave Marshall a big contract last season, but it wasn't working out they way they had hoped. Releasing Marshall frees up some cap space for San Diego and Marshall is productive enough to where he should receive a fair deal somewhere soon." But with the Dolphins, it's "Moron Jeff Ireland strikes again by signing a bad player and then cutting him a season later. This is common for the terrible GM who would be better off bagging groceries at this point and it's another sign the team has no idea what they're doing. Also, Daniel Thomas sucks." I'm not even a big Jeff Ireland fan and I find it pathetic. This is a national news website, not a fan blog. Jackass. Jets fans, LOL.
And yeah, I usually agree with Anon quite often, but Nolan Carroll is not very good. I hope he proves me wrong though.
I thought Evan Silva was a Rams fan but if he's a Jets fan that makes all the sense in the world. Reminds me of Rex w the fat red cheeks lol
I agree. Timing is everything. Omar said Taylor appeared to have reaggrivated his groin today FWIW. Havent seen that reported by anyone else though.
Agreed on Carroll, we differ on Marshall, he was a good tackler, but I didnt see the coverage ability, you?
I've been saying all off season the Dolphins need to choose between Dimitri Patterson or Richard Marshall, so I'm not likely to get upset about this move. I thought Richard Marshall had the edge in that consideration because of, A) Sunken costs, B) Some disturbing rumors of attitude problems from Dimitri Patterson in Cleveland whereas Marshall seemed like a locker room leader, and C) Though only a slight consideration Marshall does have that versatility to potentially move to safety. Even so the edge was slight. I felt they needed to get one of their salaries off the books. I thought that would be Patterson but they obviously feel Patterson has outplayed Marshall. Either one is fine. This takes $10 million off the books for 2013 and 2014.
Armando too; Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero 2h Jamar Taylor struggled to work whole practice today. Spent multiple periods on the ground dealing with groin/hernia issue.
He's so bad. He sounds like an overly disgruntled Dolphins fan who is tired of losing. This guy is supposed to be a professional. I'm actually all for media people having fun with their work and making jokes, but that's not what he does. Him and Heath Evans are two insanely bitter people towards the Dolphins.
He really is. I think he was molested at Sea World as a child. Evans was at least a player. Silva just comes across as a bitter nerd, imo.
He just backed up Incognito big time, I just think his Belicheck boner is bigger than his Dolphins hate. (Evans)
Carroll is being rightfully slammed, however he's not simply dreadful, I'm fine with him playing it is more we need more than "fine" at this point in time. Stanford is interesting to me, he's also leading the team in tackles this preseason, it COULD be this is more about they feel he can do what Marshall was going to do for us, which would make this move more logical and not just cap driven. Stanford is a converted Rb, so his upside really depends on him.
I went to college with Silva's brother. Their family is from St. Louis. Not sure if he's a Rams fan though, but his brother certainly was.
Yeah, he took shots at Hartline though for defending Cogs. Evans did praise Tannehill earlier this summer however, but it's probably just to make it seem like he's unbiased. I've never seen Silva praise the Dolphins for anything. I know there has been plenty of bad things the Dolphins have done the past few years or so, but this guy acts like we don't belong in the NFL. I mean, we do have talent. And I'm never like this with media. People love to say "this guy hates us" or "that guy hates us" but I never believe it. Silva is a different story though. He is going to get trolled big time if we have a good season.
