Wouldnt the good explanation be that he was beat out? They obviously wouldn't release him if he was gonna start.
Two rooks, one that has been battling an injury all camp and the other either gets burned or an interception. So it's gonna be Grimes, Patterson and Carroll as our three starters? Don't like it at all.
wow... today they were saying we were using him in some safety looks. He either reacted to that poorly and wanted to be released or we didn't like what we saw. Unless it's a way to cut some salary and resign him, I'm somewhat confused we didn't try to trade him actually.
It's only a matter of time before Jamar Taylor takes over...never seen Marshall do anything special...does give a nice cushion though..
Seems ridiculous. With all the cap room we have, why release your starting nickel corner in a passing league.
Adam Caplan @caplannfl 3m Marshall started all 3 preseason games. Easily becomes top free agent CB. Wonder if there's more to this. me too.
Good. I think you had to see the writing on the wall for one of the two between he and Dimitri Patterson to be released due to salary reasons. Marshall didn't really show much last year and didn't show much this preseason. Kudos to Ireland and the staff for cutting bait.
Jamar Taylor played quite a bit over the slot against Houston. I think it makes sense that they look at him there. Or, in an even better scenario, move Dimitri Patterson inside in nickel formations and have Taylor play on the outside.
Lets face it .He was a disapointment. He was given a fair shot and he didnt produce. The rookies have shown enough to make him expendable.Plus I am sure there are some cap saving ramnifications.
Pretty cray cray, I'm not too upset right now, they've obviously got some kind of prospective reason why they would do this. Oh, and Nolan Carroll will make the team, he's the most experienced gunner on special teams. Pouncey extension?
Behind Starks and Soliai, Marshall's base salary for 2013 was the 3rd highest on the team at $4.55m (Patterson's is $4.5m). The move saves $3.43m in cap space (even though we don't "need" it).
Hmm, wonder if it is to free cap space b/c we have a trade in the works? I'm actually surprised tbh, it's not as if our secondary was a track meet.
@ProFootballTalk: Dolphins tried to trade CB Richard Marshall before cutting him, but found no takers. Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk
Ouch. Nobody wants him at that salary. Seems like they asked him to take a cut and he refused, as someone said previously in this thread.
Good riddance. He was better as a safety and I dont particularly like him there either. Rarely am I happy when we cut a player whose been here a few years but I not compaining on this one.
ProFootballTalk @ProFootballTalk 2m Dolphins tried to trade CB Richard Marshall before cutting him, but found no takers. shocking actually.
Adam Caplan @caplannfl 2m CBs Jamar Taylor-2nd, Will Davis-3rd were drafted this year by the Dolphins. Dimitri Patterson slot CB, Nolan Carroll, Grimes. Depth is ok.
Hopefully this move paves the way for Jamar Taylor to become a starter sooner rather than later. Grimes, Taylor, and Patterson would be a solid top 3. I'd rather keep R.J. Stanford than Nolan Carroll, but I can see both making the roster. Will Davis isn't ready yet.
No, definitely not. Then again, he wasn't going to be seeing any snaps if he were buried behind all these cornerbacks. Now, they can throw him in periodically.
@JeffDarlington: Marshall has indeed been cut by MIA. Players surprisingly not surprised, two of which tell me he wasn't playing well enough to merit big $. Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk
