Any inappropriate words you haven't learned on your own at your ripe old age of 16, you will learn from George. I encourage you (because I'm not your parents) to listen to him. He's incredible and will be missed.

first time i saw him was on a game show back in 1969, called "hows your mother-in-law". they asked the son-in-law about the problems you had with your mother-in-law, there were three contestants and each mother had a comedian represent them as a lawyer. it was a pretty good show, had "flip wilson" and john byner as the other two lawyers and carlin represented my mother-in-law. mine didn't win, just as well. the winners got dinner for two on the princess cruise ship.

RIP George, you taught me how to be a pig and swear like a sailor. You made me laugh at humanity and how stupid we really are. You always presented the most scathing shows tearing apart everything, even those 'taboo' subjects. This is a tough one to take, I hope you are at peace.

What a loss. Carlin was the father of the type of stand up comedy that so many emulated but few were successful at doing.

    He will be missed.

A pioneer in the field of comedy Carlin was. He paved the way for others to use 'dirty words' and will be sadly missed.

Y'see now you're showing your age (or I'm showing mine), but that distinction goes to Lenny Bruce. Be that as it may, Carlin picked up where Bruce left off with his "Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV" routine.
    Nonetheless, he'll be missed.

Same here...celebrity deaths rarely have an impact on me. George shaped my sense of humor as I was growing up.

One of the few I actually squeezed a tear out for.

though he was known for the "Dirty Words" or seven words you can't say on TV, he was actually a very cerebral comedian. a lot of thought went into his routines. he also made you think about what was happening in life. on all levels. he will be missed. a sad day.

Brilliant comedian. Absolutely brilliant. I am very saddened by this as he was a favorite of mine. I own many of his albums and enjoyed everything from guest spots in movies to his short lived comedy on Fox as a taxi driver.

RIP George. Kill em dead in the afterlife.

It has been a tough month.

George Carlin is an original.....many have "tried" emulate him and they have all failed.

Another "one of a kind" celeb goes. just sad.

i have all his albums, books and dvds. he was one of my idols. he will be greatly missed.

and yet, Tim Russert's death was way more important to warrant 24 hour coverage for 4 days. Barely a mention of Carlin's death.

Id say Maher is the only one who comes close, but Carlin was so beyond any comedian's abilities, he almost invented his style of comedy.
