Should've hit those FGs in the jets game last season. He could have helped us secure 2 wins and winning season. Good luck to him (except if he is facing us). Now the pressure is on Sturgis.

Make a 58 yard kick during the preseason, drop the mic, wait for the ESPN ticker to scroll across the screen.

He's one of the better kickers in the NFL. He won't be out of work long. I'm sure his agent is taking calls now.

I think it was done out of consideration to what he did for us. Gives him time to latch on to another team before rosters are set.

John Denney, Brandon Fields and Dan Carpenter were so tight, I wonder if Sturgis was excluded a little bit. Coaches may have started to think there could be problems if they don't nip that in the bud and get Denney and Fields used to Sturgis being their third.

Living in Charlotte, the Panthers should go get the Detroit rocker, and have him boot it for them.

So what? His fight for a starting position in the NFL added as much pressure to his kicks compared to the ones he'll be seeing in the regular season.

I was pretty sure Carpenter was on thinner-than-thin ice when he missed two game-winning kicks last season. When the Phins picked Sturgis in the 5th, I was certain he was gone. Teams absolutely do not pick kickers in the 5th round just to give their current kicker competition. They do that to replace their current kicker.

IMO, it was the right move. Carpenter deserved to get cut. He failed at THE most important role of his job... twice... and, arguably, cost his team the playoffs.

Dude was totally out of shape last year..maybe had something to do with a kicker who couldn't even stay in shape, no excuses unless your first name is Sebastian.lol

Releasing Carp was the right move, and I don't care how many kicks Sturgis misses from here on out. No one has a magic crystal ball, for Pete's sake. Carp failed at his job. Period.

No reason to pay a kicker that amount imo - save that cap space!

Despite his struggles last year, Carp was solid for us his prior 4 years. He's a good kicker and I wish him the best.

I am excited for Sturgis though. The kid has a hell of a leg.

I'm officially on record now as being uncomfortable with this. I think Carpenter got a bad rap for last season. He will find a job, and I am sure once Caleb misses a big kick, everyone will be clamoring for Dan.

Thanks for your time Carp, I'm still a fan.

As for Caleb, congrats kid...better kick em straight.
