I don't care if he played QB his entire career in college or not, all I care about from that is that he only had 19 starts at QB.
That's exactly what I meant by what I said. Just couldnt remember the exact number of starts. He doesn't have alot of experience at QB at the higher levels, it's going to take a bit longer.
I agree, but IMO when you've got a QB with MMoore's skills, Devlin has to be the one you replace is all I'm saying. Only way you get rid of Moore is when Devlin or a newly drafted backup outperforms Moore. If we are in the playoff race and need to win just one or two games to get in, who do you want in there if Tannehill goes down? I sure would rather have Moore until one of the newly drafted rookies shows they're better and Devlin hasn't come close to showing that.
You should be patient until you start using reasons other than Tannehill for why Tannehill has stopped improving. Sent from my HTC One GE using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I think how quickly teams give up on QBs is overblown. Gabbert and Josh Freeman still have jobs. Alex Smith is an NFL starter and if Gabbert fails in Jacksonville, their number one option is a guy who was drafted in 2008. Jake Locker is a thing. Pat White is in the NFL, and so are Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow. While those guys, aside from Alex Smith, are probably not going to do much with their opportunities, the league does have a few guys who did that are still playing: Drew Brees didn't start off killing the league and neither did Eli Manning. Matt Ryan regressed notably in his second season. My point is that we have no idea which category Tannehill will end up in but I can almost guarantee he'll get enough time to show us. The old Dan Henning defense. Then the Brian Daboll defense. All under the umbrella of the Tony Sparano defense. I'd hate to look back at some of my posts. I'd still crown Todd defensive poster of the year though Sent from my GT-P3110 using Tapatalk 2
I think you have this place confused with finheaven. You can count on 1 hand the posters here who are negative about Tannehill at this moment
Serious question (since I wasn't able to see any pre-season last year, and only a few regular season games, 1 of which was Houston ugggh), how does T17 look: a) Last season compared to last camp b) This camp compared to last camp Anyone?
year three starting is the time to shine for a QB. I expect him to face some defenses he isn't familiar with in year two and that could cause his numbers to look like he is regressing when in actuality it is a learning experience. Year three you should have seen just about everything, improved your weaknesses enough so they don't become a liability and become the QB your potential allows you to be
This year, next year. If he hasn't shown it by next year you draft his replacement. And let them battle it out.
I don't understand why keep Moore around. Devlin has already shown he is better than Moore in every single preseason game in the last 2 years. I don't get this thing about relying on Moore to win games, when he has lost more games than he has won.
You're kidding right? Moore is possibly the best QB on our roster*, no way Devlin is better. We're only ever 1 potential play away from needing our backup QB to be capable of stepping in. Jets last year springs to mind. So keeping Moore seems more than prudent to me. Edit: best QB right now. I think Tannehill has the higher ceiling.
could not disagree moore (haha). Moore throws a pretty good long ball and is a good backup QB, but he clearly has hit his ceiling as an NFL QB. Even if I was cynical enough to say that the two are at a similar level right now (which I don't believe) like you said, Tannehill's ceiling is much higher.
As long as you still think there's a 60% chance he'll be elite, you stick with him. The second he slips under that (even 59%) then draft a guy you think has a 60%+ chance and let them battle it out.
Dez your disdain for Ireland comes thru in every post... Seriously, this guy is about two QB years behind Henne was as a qb for us...Henne started 4 yrs in college and was 'ready' to go after his rookie season....at that point, he should have developed into a better QB than he was, IF it was in him. It apparently was not... Tanny is, in effect, developmentally where Henne was in his rookie year... He'll have to be give more time, but the thing that many here and elsewhere have seen, was that improvement as the year went on last year... Naturally, we haven't seen anything yet until the season starts for real, but he arguably has better weapons around him. The OL will have a lot more to do with the success of this team than the development of Tanny. He appears to be 'on track', but if the OL can't get the job done, we could be in for a longer year than expected. I think, to the OP, that those of us who remember Marino's early career, it's hard not to hold every QB, including Tanny to Marino's standard...that's totally unfair as he was a 'once in a while' talent... Don't know that Tanny is that kind of guy yet, just like we don't know that RG3, Luck and Wilson are either, despite great beginnings by those kids...
I think at this point I'd rather Moore as a back-up QB coming in cold off the bench, but I might prefer Devlin being the back-up if he has a full week to prepare (to start).
Personally I believe there are a number of humps any young QB must get over as he develops, some more critical than others. RT needs to show by the end of this season that he's fully capable of getting over the critcal ones, or they need to think about drafting some competition next year.
NO! He has only had a 50% completion rating and only thrown one touchdown in his first two games.. Get rid of the bum NOW..
two things here, one I think Tanny needs to have a good season not a great season but just win games the experience will come but if we are to improve as a team then RYAN Tannyhill needs to really improve. I don't think we should tie ourselves down for four or five years to one qb . it really should be noted that three years should be long enough time to tell whether or not a man is going to be a good qb or not . if Tannyhill wins us 9 to 11 games then we will be alright but if he causes us to have a 6 -10 or 5-11 season then chances are he may not be the answer at qb . I truly hope we win 10 games and Ryan becomes one of the top 10 qb in the league .
Dude, you're the one who brought up bringing in a mistake free vet. You can't throw a statement like that out there and not expect not to be called on it. I am patient with Tannehill. I am willing to give him until the end of the 2014 season. You're the one talking smack.
When your logic is non existent and your observations are based on literally nothing you've observed like TGFD, then you can say anything you want and even change the rules mid sentence. There's a certain freedom to being a slave to your emotions.
He had us in position to win 9 or 10 games last year and beat 2 good teams in Seattle and the Bengals. Carpenter and the defense failed to secure the wins. That is why we have drafted a DE/OLB in DJordan, Sturgis at kicker, and overhauled the secondary by signing Grimes and drafting DBs. We also brought in guys to help us score more points in Wallace, Keller, and Gibson. Tannehill wasn't the problem last season and won't be this season. 8 to 10 wins should be doable if we can stay healthy and get the OLine clicking.
I think we are all in agreement that Philbin is the right coach for this team. With that being said, I think we can all agree to let coach decide when it is time to give up on Ryan Tannehill. After all, he does work with him everyday, on the field, in meetings, and during games. Regardless of our impatience with the process, I believe any closed books on Ryan Tannehill are premature. I didn't want Ryan Tannehill, but now that he is here, I loathe the thought of starting from Day 1 with another QB. There are a lot of positives in Tannehill and while I don't think he will ever be a HOFer, I'm not convinced we can't win a superbowl with him. This thread is premature. GO DOLPHINS!!
Does he get a pass if the receiver drops the ball? Or do we call for his head even then - actually we'd probably blame that on Ireland.
I'm not sure about Philbin. I hope he improves the half time adjustments this year and the teams execution on 3rd down, both offense and defense. I think 2 years will be plenty of time and I don't think anyone is safe now. If we're not 9-7 by 2014 clean house starting with Ireland.
tannehill showed a bit of the clutch gene in the last drive of the Seattle game.... I'd really like to see him build up on that this season if/when the cards are stacked against him. That is a lot more telling than most things.
