No, it didn't go over my head. Based upon the complete ignorance that's been on display in this thread, you never know what's a joke or not. Aside from the fact that I can actually read. This was your post that I first answered. Can you explain how anyone would take that as a joke after all the horse**** that's been in here?
Black people run faster, are taller and jump higher than most asians. Prove me wrong. Prove it wrong!!!! Stereotypes exist for a reason. Some of them are borne of observed traits. As an Asian guy who has been discriminated against, almost got into fistfights at my mom's convenience store with kids my age, and because white guys were calling my parents gooks and telling them to go back to Cambodia (we're Vietnamese idiots!), all of this in a yuppy rich white suburb on the beach (Cardiff By the Sea), I'll say this. We're getting too sensitive as a country. There are asian groups that will hoot and hollar at everything that can be offensive, and I tell them to bugger off. When there is actual malice involved, call me. If someone is offended but there is no malice behind it, well go find a hobby. Now whether or not the Redskins should change their name, I'll let that fight play out. I don't care either way, it's not my team.
Technically ... it was. It was originally a descriptive term, that did not refer to natives' skin colors, but specific tribes that used red paint. Namely, the Algonquians and specifically the Delaware.
What was the name of that notebook we used to use as young kids? Big Chief, Red Chief? Wonder if those are still around?
Bro don't be a tool. I'm not "mad," I was explaining how with all ths snot that's in this thread it's hard to tell if someone's serious or not. Besides, if no one gets the "joke," that's a pretty clear sign it wasn't that funny. If you were being sarcastic, throw a wink in there so someone "gets it."
Humorous this thread is still alive, especially when it's pretty much an irrelevant topic in the real world.
You're trying to **** up the thread without meaningfully engaging on the topic. It's either that or you are either badly misunderstanding what the word means or are incapable of meaningful discourse(neither can be ruled out all things considered)
Unless you are native American you have no right to have a card in this game. How do you know how "offended" someone else should be.
Don't you understand, he's a man because he's completely willing to ignore the grievances of others he can't relate to. That and maybe because he can't come up with a halfway coherent argument but hey.
No, that's not how it works. There's a difference between empathizing with something and then trying to speak for a group. While not the mark of a real man of course, having empathy and understanding how people can have a problem with it, or having a problem yourself is not unduly inserting yourself into the situation. However, claiming it isn't offensive on the behalf of aggrieved parties is doing exactly that. Or it's proving you are a man, I don't know that whole part doesn't make sense and I'm not expecting an explanation anytime soon. As it stands, I literally do have a card proclaiming me to be a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, from godforsaken Upper Michigan. So uhhh...
http://deadspin.com/redskins-indian-chief-defender-not-a-chief-probably-590973565 So part of the Redskins defense of their name was trotting out an Native American Chief on one of their team-run shows to explain it wasn't offensive. Except he's not a Chief. That's his nickname. Nor is he Native American, he's Aleutian. Which is funny, because the Redskins have a history of hiring fake Native Americans for show purposes to justify their name. Also, the article provided a missing passage from "Hail to the Redskins" Yup, respect.
Living in DC, most of the Skins fans I know believe that yes, it is time for a name change, and No, they don't have any idea of what it should be. My favorite so far from the locals is the "Washington Filibusters".
Aleutian is the name if the island chain. The people are called Aleuts and yes most are Native Americans and there is also a small group that are Russians.
Rachel Maddow is an absolute idiot: http://weaselzippers.us/2013/08/12/...ington-redskins-as-r-word-for-entire-segment/ And what is funny and ironic is in another segment she called the Republicans "kooks". You can't make this crap up.
Here's a thoughtful column from former Dolphin beat reporter and "idiot" Tim Graham. I don't need Daniel Snyder's, NFL's permission to stop saying R-word
Considering how our country decimated Native American populations and culture, so much so that there are hardly any left to be offended, it is oddly fitting that the name of the football team in our nation's capital continues to **** on their legacy.
The Onion as is to be expected had a good article on it: Report: Redskins’ Name Only Offensive If You Think About What It Means
I don't care if they change it or don't change it, read my posts in this thread, my beef is the PC gone amok in this country and trying to associate a word with another word when the comparison isn't even close, then to top it off its more of the select tolerance by the left.
I can't believe you just told Dr. Z to piss off when he wasn't insulting or rude to you in the least. You have a serious persecution complex.
WTF is the point of that? Dr Z is one of the most respected members on this board for a long time. Showing some respect would help you tons.
FTR, I would be ok if they changed the name to the Washington Warriors, and showed some respect to the soldiers of this country. I think that'd be cool.
he said reporter and quotes idiot Tim Graham due to the problem Tim Graham had when he would come on here and answer all our questions. Or something like that.
You are correct, sir. My point was that using "the R-word" in place of Redskin does not make you an idiot. Nor does it make you a leftie.
So 90% of Native Americans don't consider "redskins" a racial slur? Interesting. http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/10/08/how-many-native-americans-think-redskins-is-a-slur/
