A thread for us to post three players who you think have "Up" arrows right now, and three players who you feel have "Down" arrows right now. Up Arrows 1) Chad Bumphis 2) Will Davis 3) Michael Egnew Down Arrows 1) Josh Samuda 2) Javorskie Lane 3) Brian Tyms
You did it wrong... Its up up down down left right A B Select Start... ...and the Fins win the Super Bowl!
Up Arrows 1) Jonathan Martin 2) Will Davis 3) Chad Bumphis Down Arrows 1) Josh Samuda 2) Daniel Thomas 3) Jimmy Wilson
Up Arrows 1) Chad Bumphis 2) Caleb Sturgis 3) Jonathan Martin Down Arrows 1) Marvin McNutt 2) Dallas Thomas 3) Jimmy Wilson
You've got to put Jon Martin on an up arrow at this point because the word out of camp about how he was doing against Dion Jordan and Olivier Vernon indicated that he's really going to struggle even in the preseason, but he hasn't. His stock was an an ultra-low before preseason, even internally. I think he's had 19 pass reps and only been beaten once or twice, although half those reps were against backups like Kyle Wilber and Andre Branch.
i hope houston plays the starters for 1 or 2 series, that will be the true test going up against JJ Watt
Up Arrows 1. Dustin Keller 2. Jared Odrick 3. Will Davis Down Arrows 1. Jorvorskie Lane 2. Vaughn Martin 3. Josh Samuda
I debated Martin as an up arrow, but he got a lot of help against the Jags. Daniel Thomas did okay against the Jags, I thought. It's just that maybe Jonas Gray has a bigger up arrow right now.
People still think he doesn't see the field because of blocking? We just went out and signed one of the worst blocking starting TEs in football. Blocking isn't he only reason Egnew sucks. He's not making this team.
lol. Yeah. Well, against the Cowboys he had mixed results but some pretty good catches. Against the Jags though he BLOCKED and not too badly... and still ran good routes etc. So in my book he went from bad to "has hope"!
By the way. Don't let a block or two make you think he's a good or even capable blocker at this point. Practice reports have him getting thrown around like a rag doll.
As for who I would put where it really depends on the time frame. If this is a week to week thing then I would put it thus. Up Arrows (no particular order): Chad Bumphis, Caleb Sturgis, Jonathan Martin, Jonas Gray, Nate Garner, Will Davis, Jordan Kovacs, Michael Egnew, Dustin Keller, Will Yeatman, Brian Tyms, Dannell Ellerbe, Jared Odrick, Tristan Okpalaugo, Kheeston Randall, Nolan Carroll Up Arrows (no particular order): Randy Starks, Olivier Vernon, Vaughn Martin, Emeka Onyenekwu, Dion Jordan, Koa Misi, Jelani Jenkins, Josh Kaddu, Jimmy Wilson, Josh Samuda, Tyson Clabo, Mike Wallace, Marvin McNutt, Jeff Adams, Sam Brenner, Mike Gillislee, Kyle Miller, Julius Pruitt, Keenan Davis
i have another thing going here....i call it fun stats or numbers about the roster, check this, every player on this roster at the moment which last name starts with a "B" is either exactly 23 years old and also a Rookie...hahahaha find something better, I already won
You have to put Martin as an up arrow because he has held his own these preseason games, especially because the media and everyone has been really critical of Martin so far. He hasn't been the problem with the line so far. Daniel Thomas I put as a down arrow because Jonas Gray has impressed me far more than he has so far this preseason/camp.
UP 1. Brian Hartline 2. Jon Martin 3. Will Davis DOWN 1. Javorskie Lane 2. Richard Marshall 3. Dion Jordan (hate to put him on here, but lingering shoulder problem isn't good IMO)
Down: Tannehill Ireland Wallace Martin Ireland Philbin Jordan Sims and Errbody else. Also Ireland Up No one, we are doomed.
I was thinking of doing this thread weekly through the pre-season. I see you have more than three of each. lol. This is probably what Jeff Ireland's notebook looks like.
I doubt J.J. Watt is going to play. Or Antonio Smith for that matter. It's hard to tell what is going on over there but I think Brooks Reed will probably be the starter. Yet, I don't think Brooks is a good pass rusher really at all. The best we can probably hope for is that Whitney Mercilus plays, although to be honest I don't think Mercilus is really all that good either. Maybe they get Sam Montgomery on the field and he can give Martin some healthy competition. Bryan Braman and Willie Jefferson did well last week but they're like 3rd stringer types. I'd be interested in seeing Chris Jones the late rounder out of Bowling Green go up against our guys. I had a high opinion of Jones coming out. He's more of a 3-4 DE but still good, IMO. Jonathan Martin successfully blocking guys like Brooks Reed, Whitney Mercilus and Sam Montgomery would be a step in the right direction.
Surprised by Tyms here. I thought he had several bad plays and was to blame in large part for Moore INT. PLus there was a Tannehill incompletion early where he seemed to not run his comeback at the right time.
Up: Ryan Tannehill, Lamar Miller, Jonathan Martin, Dannell Ellerbe, Philip Wheeler, Dimitri Patterson, Caleb Sturgis, Chad Bumphis, and Will Davis. Down: Matt Moore, Tyson Clabo, Randy Starks, Jason Trusnik, Austin Spitler, Richard Marshall, Dan Carpenter, and Jamar Taylor. Neutral: Daniel Thomas, Josh Samuda, Tracy Robertson, Lee Robinson, Jordan Kovacs, and Dion Jordan. I'd like to see Clabo, Starks, and Taylor turn into Arrow Up guys soon.
Up Arrows 1. Will Davis (so far, the turnover machine) 2. Dannell Ellerbe (may he stay healthy this whole season) 3. Dion Simms (oh, so close to that TD) Down Arrows 1. Jamar Taylor (may be a source of frustration early before NFL light ticks on - his injury has hurt him) 2. Marvin McNutt (although the reviews seemed good early in camp, he keeps not making plays that he has chances at both in practice and games) 3. Josh Samuda (it's not what the coaches say, it's what the coaches do... and he's been demoted after Jags game) Down Arrow + 1 Cheat: Mike Gilleslee... at this point, I'm not sure he makes the team.
Well, if he had held his own ON his own I'd agree. But I saw Keller, Incognito and some others helping him out more times than I'd have expected if a LT was playing 'well'. Not sure it;s fair to 'Dowwn Arrow" a guy based on another guy being "Up Arrow". When I say down arrow I mean his performance though. I'm guessing you mean his chance at a roster spot.
I'd be more tempted to put Jamar Taylor on an up arrow than a down arrow to be honest. I mean, the guy is finally at practice. That's an improvement. I forgot to mention Kyle Miller on the down arrow. And Julius Pruitt for that matter. And on second thought, Keenan Davis should go there.
Definitely agree that Clabo has had a bit more trouble than I expected. Not bad, but not super either. Spitler... I just can't handle a guy who is supposedly a 4.7 speed LB looking slow out there (watched him get beat to the outside WITH the angle) in ADDITION to getting run over and pushed back. Where's the benefit if he's doing NEITHER thing well? Taylor, Starks for sure with injury. Why Moore? I thought the INT was partially (if not mainly) Tyms fault.
I'll call Tyson Clabo what he was in that 1st quarter. He was bad. It's not the end of the world, but he was bad.
I would refuse to put Matt Moore on an up arrow or down arrow list for two reasons: 1. He has an unremarkable job where if all goes right he will never play 2. His job is absolutely safe, and there's been no indications that there's even a competition For that reason he could go out there throwing 3 picks and I'd still not put him on down arrow. To what end?
Moore just hasn't looked that great to me. Admittedly though, he's probably playing mostly with guys that are long for the roster. However, he's taken two pretty bad sacks, against backups, where a veteran QB such as he is, should have gotten rid of the ball. Spitler's more of a 3-4 ILB IMO, but he's good on special teams. Hardest shot I ever took in HS ball actually came from him in a scrimmage. But, if you can get Lee Robinson to play better, I think you keep him on the roster. I'm still intrigued to see more of Michael Clay as well.
