Ironic. My son starts school that week. And 30 guys per team will be looking to teach gym class at schools. So that means......hes destined to be a millionaire football player. Ill start planning my early retirement now!
I have a feeling we're going to see an AMA on Reddit in a month called "Quit my job to focus on my 7 year old son's professional football career, AMA!"
Anyways back on subject........... How long till you think sick starts rocking the old school coach shorts?
back..back-on subject. according to rotoworld, it's a minor shoulder injury for Dion Jordan. wondering if he just aggravated his repaired shoulder so they are giving him a break. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/8384
Chris Perkins @chrisperk 2m Dolphins shut down Dion Jordan trying not to "overload him" http://fw.to/uTQHxdS
lots of new videos are up from today.....Tyms, Keenan Davis (where was he on friday btw...caught a TD, almost a 2nd one and then nothing ?), vernon, wallace, coyle, tannehill and coach philbin
so anyone with PFF membership ? dolphins vs jaguars numbers are up...they don´t mention martin on the free for all page......samuda had a -2.3, brenner a -0.7, burden a +0.6, will davis was the highest rated defender with a 1.8
As for the question about Keenan Davis, he was put on the shelf just like Chad Bumphis. That's how you could tell what the coaches were thinking. Keenan Davis (38) and Chad Bumphis (40) led all receivers during the Hall of Fame game in snaps, and not so coincidentally they also led in production. Jeff Fuller only got 16 snaps during that game. Brandon Gibson only got 10 snaps. Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace didn't even play. So the next game you saw Bumphis only get 7 snaps, and Keenan Davis only 10 snaps. Meanwhile Jeff Fuller (22 snaps) and Brandon Gibson (16 snaps) got a healthier workload, and Brian Hartline (18 snaps) and Mike Wallace (17 snaps) actually got some action. They spent an entire week raving about how Bumphis and Keenan Davis did in the Hall of Fame game. I doubt they suddenly forgot about them. I just think they were trying to be equitable. What is kind of cool to me is that even though Bumphis was only in the game on 5 pass plays, the quarterback still found him twice, and he made good things happen on both plays. That's how you get noticed. It's one thing to produce when you've got a lot of opportunities but it's another thing to produce when you've got limited opportunities. That's what coaches like to see, because we are after all talking about guys that (if they play at all) will likely only play a handful of snaps on offense during the games.
His chances are looking good, but I don't know if he's a lock quite yet. Obviously, it depends on how many WRs they are planning on keeping... but I think the big 3 plus Matthews are locks (just my opinion). That could only leave 1 spot if they choose to keep 5... and with Thigpen mainly taking WR reps and being the primary kick/punt returner... it's going to squeeze that spot. He seems to be doing everything he can though to put the coaches in a tough spot...
I don't think the coaches even consider it an option to keep only four true receivers plus Marcus Thigpen. I doubt that's even going to come up in the discussions. That's why I consider Bumphis a lock. Although I just realized, with disappointment, that Chad Bumphis' streak of producing the most yards at his position during games and scrimmages has been broken. He led all receivers with 2 catches for 41 yards at the scrimmage, led all receivers with 5 catches for 85 yards in Canton, but only had the 2nd highest production in Jacksonville. Brian Tyms had 34 yards (on 12 pass snaps). Chad Bumphis had 26 yards (on 5 pass snaps).
You're more than likely right on that. We'll see though. Tyms and McNutt have had their moments too. Its a long preseason. I'd definitely have to put him as the leader in the clubhouse though for that last spot. I'm hoping he keeps it up...
An injury could definitely knock him for a loop. That's always possible. And Brian Tyms has such great athleticism and he HAD been making a name for himself in practices, to where if he just fully busts out then he is a guy to watch. But I think McNutt is dead in the water relative to Bumphis, and Tyms just keeps making too many mistakes.
Ya, McNutt hasnt seemed to be able to translate his practices very well to the games. There's still time... but hes #3 in a race of 3... lol.
His practices have turned heavily south over the last two weeks. The reports all seem to agree he's dropping a lot of balls. His stock was at a high point after the scrimmage. He had an unremarkable week of reporting from practices heading into the Hall of Fame game, then a lackluster Hall of Fame game, then really a bad week of practice heading into the Jags game, actually a decent Jags game all things told (a catch and a run) but then was reportedly back to his dropsies in practice after the Jags game.
Brian Tyms is a "not ready for" primetime type player. His only hope to make the team is to become a Kirby Dar Dar or Marlon Moore. I am confused by all the expectations people have for him. He is a Roborto Wallace type player. A player who doesn't have a lot of football experience, but has great athletism. To me though, he looks better than Roborto Wallace did in his second year and he actually uses his strength unlike Chris Hogan did last year.
Tyms made mistakes in the game but I put him Arrow Up for two reasons: 1. He showed more potential in the passing game, 2. He made a big play as a gunner on special teams At this point, he's Chad Bumphis only real competition for the 5th wide receiver spot. I agree he's not ready for prime time but last week against Dallas he caught a ball on a come back and really showed a nice ability to come back for the ball and control his momentum throughout the process of the catch. We know he's got the ability to go deep with that frame and all that athleticism. He made some more catches this week. Yeah he did drop a ball which contributed to a pick (didn't Bumphis do that too?) and he also had a miscommunication with the QB (which shows he's young)...but his stock to me is up because right now he's the only guy competing viably with Bumphis for the 5th receiver spot and if/when he doesn't make it I think they'll try and see if they can't get him on the practice squad.
Sometimes you see flashes of a player being able to play at this level at this time, sometimes you see flashes that they don't..
Good to hear that about Garner. I guess most folks forgot how well he played at both guard spots in 2009, and was considered a favorite to be the starting RG going into 2010, until a training camp foot injury shelved him for the season. After he came back in 2011, he seems to have been considered mainly just a backup. He is better inside than outside, so I am happy for him that he is getting a chance to start again.
