What's the point? He's a return specialist... Does he need reps? Seems to me, the best thing to do is not use him. Try and find a returner elsewhere on the team so you don't have to waste a roster spot for a return specialist. I like Thigpen, but he's limited. And as good of a returner as he is, he's not Devin Hester. If we can find someone else to do the job who can contribute to the 53 as a position player too, all the better.

    -defense played well
    -josh samuda got destroyed
    - tannehill played ok, needs to get the ball out quicker
-o-line allowed pressure way too many times

They know what Thigpen can do...which is contribute to STs ONLY. Roster spots are precious, so they want to see if they can get similar production from a player that can contribute on more than just STs.

    I skipped the game.

I didn't get to see the game, only read the stats afterwards but one thing that's DEFINITELY good was 33 running plays to 27 passing plays. I know the NFL is pass happy now and there are a lot of fans that have a Viagra erection for quarterback play, but when you can effectively run the ball, it opens play action pass and keeps 7 in the box so the quarterback can make those nice 20+ yard throws.

    Great job Phins!!!!

    - i think the only negative i came up with on offense is , it took to long to get settled in and the run blocking was a disaster
    - i had the jacksonville crew but did he really call that RT TD pass a poor throw, it looked actually pretty perfect to me, only put where keller could make a play...great throw
    - spitler and trusnik....we know white men can´t jump, but hey some of them also can´t run very good either, unreal we haven´t been able to replace them
    - cameron wake on that stunt....schooled the **** out of the rook...lol
    - carroll, yeah nice INT, but i´m not impressed, he gets beat to easy, i think will davis needs some reps from carrol´s playing time (needs to tackle better as well)
    - that sturgis guy has me put me on notice...it went so far that i screamed at the TV, when they were punting from the own 45...lol
    - dion jordan...besides that nice stuff on the wildcat play....where were you all game ?
    - i already posted this in the game thread : Memo to coaching staff..if you put bumphis in the game, he makes plays...time to find out what he´s got at WR with starter material opposite of him
    - dion sims looks like a man out there, he is big
    - brandon fields booming punts (i swear i counted a 70 and a 80 yarder)
    - just rewatching some of that game, boy did our Oline suck, no matter which quarter (josh samuda...wassup ?)
    - funny, watch sturgis kick that long FG, the mascot is catching the ball...clearly behind the goal post and signaling no good...lol
    - vaughn martin is MIA
    - i like the fact that we played 2 clean games so far, not many penalties....jimmy wilson...idiot on that QB hit out of bounds

Considering one of the main reasons he wasn't active last season was that we couldn't rely on him picking up his blocking assignments, and to date he's been doing that well this pre-season, then there's a very good chance he's going to be active and contributing this season.

Of the 9 you mention, and if we do keep 8, then it's Lane that's the one outside looking in. Clay's been asked to block as a FB as much, if not more, than Lane, as have the TE's, so I don't see us keeping a pure FB like Lane at all.

OT: would have been nice to hear Jesse Agler getting his shot tonight. Though I have nothing bad to say about the Jags crew. They were professional.

Yeah, I thought the crew of Some Guy & Burnell, was pleasant enough. There was humor and they weren't annoying. The depth of their knowledge was poor though.

The production quality was horrendous though. It was as if Khan didn't want to fork over the cash for professional level production and opted instead for his secretary's sister's kid fresh out of community college, to run the show on a shoestring. Even the cameramen were bad.

Thomas has had two years of opportunities.

I think Gray has tremendous potential while Thomas is simply "serviceable," imo. Gray is short and hard to hit with his short, compact body; has a knack in short yardage.

So much so I'm concerned about his roster slot.

    As for Gray v Gillislee

TBH, prefer Gillislee, saw him eat some blitzer alive via blocking, and neither one is exactly explosive.

Their Field staff sucked too. they couldn't get the down and distance right and then the refs tried to give miami a delay of game penalty when the game clock on the score board ****ed up.

I am not a Thomas fan and I was hoping they would find a RB to replace him. As far as Gray and Gillislee are concerned, they both are getting their snaps against players who won't be on an NFL roster once the season starts. Right now I would give the edge to Gray for the third RB position and I just don't see Gillislee as a productive NFL RB going forward.

Hopefully the Dolphins will be able to bring in a veteran RB who is cut during the next few weeks or one that has not yet signed with a team. I think letting Bush go in free agency is going to prove to be a mistake. He is still better than any running back now on the Dolphins roster.

My general observations both good and bad:

    Good:
    - Ryan Tannehill can make some nice throws on the run and when he's got a clean pocket.
    - Jonathan Martin went pretty unnoticed tonight and even threw a pass-rusher to the ground.
    - The run-blocking with the 1st team OL and the first backup group was decent.
    - Cameron Wake is explosive.
    - Dannell Ellerbe was all over the field and the 1st team D looked pretty good.
    - Dustin Keller, well done.
    - Caleb Sturgis, well done.
    - Tristan Okpalaugo might be worth trying to stash on the practice squad.
    - Jonas Gray is a nice short yardage and redzone runner.
    - Josh Kaddu flashed a few times. Haven't really heard much about him since he was drafted last year.
    - Miami trusted Marcus Thigpen to field a punt deep in Miami's own territory. Last year, Davone Bess fielded that punt.
    - Pat Devlin might be the best 3rd QB in the NFL.

    Bad:
    - Josh Samuda had a rough night in pass-pro. That sack of Tannehill is squarely on him. Sen'Derrick Marks ate his lunch.
    - Miami's speed at backup LB spots isn't that great.
    - Ryan Tannehill looked rattled on the 1st drive after the sack and at the beginning of the second drive.
    - Richard Marshall, IMO, should not be a starting CB. Nor should Nolan Carroll be a starting CB.
    - My attention span is not yet at regular season mode. I missed the 3rd quarter watching the Reds game.

    Unsure:
    - I think Sam Brenner is going to make the roster or practice squad in some capacity. He's played a lot, both at C and LG.
    - Dallas Thomas looked alright at RT...but why they haven't just left him at LG is beyond me.
    - Olivier Vernon didn't do much, but he was going against Eugene Monroe. He might have had one pressure.
    - Tracy Robertson might be the defense's version of Sam Brenner at this point.
    - Quiet night for Dion Jordan.
    - Whose jersey do I purchase? Leaning towards Reshad Jones right now
    - Nate Garner was the RG on Tannehill's touchdown throw...was he in that whole drive?

Call your doctor after four hours.

    Carpenter is toast.
The TD to Keller was either tipped or something else was wrong, it wobbled like crazy and Tannehill almost always has a tight spin on his throws.
Worry's me Sherman might think Tannehill is on track because he had a 120.1 passer rating last night. Tanny never even bothered to look Wallace's way who was open almost every play. I was not excited at all by Tannehill's play last night, a couple times he looked "OK" but he's got a long way to go yet before we start the season.
IMO it was Tymms fault on the Moore Int., he didn't come back and I'm pretty sure it was a timing route. There was another play Tymms did the same thing we just got lucky we didn't lose another Int. IMHO Tymms doesn't make this team.
Chad Henne actually outplayed their starter?????????????? I feel sorry for Jags fans.
Wilson's Int. was a thing of beauty, his hit out of bounds on their QB wasn't, notice that was his last time on the field?

Exactly!! RT didn't play all that well IMO but that TD was a fantastic pass. People seem confused b/c it wasn't a perfect spiral, but it was dead on and clearly thrown to Keller's backside behind the LBs head. That's the kind of throw that great QBs make.

If Sherman was an NFL coach that ONLY looked at a QBR after a pre-season game to judge his starting QB's performance, we'd be in much more trouble...And since he didn't even look Wallace's way should confirm something for you...these games aren't to show what they plan for Wallace...he was probably told NOT to throw to Wallace.

Starting defense allowed 14 yards in 3 possessions.Judging by the Philbin presser it seems like protection was the main problem for the offense's slow start.

Sounds pretty fair...I wish I could have seen what was going on in the secondary to contribute to the length of time Tanny held the ball on some of those plays.

Samuda had a pretty rough start. Clabo gave up some pressures and I think there was one other pretty bad one (Incognito?) in the first 2 drives. Lance Louis needs to get healthy quickly.

Seems to me that with Thigpen not getting snaps at wr or rb AND hardly any reps on returns, that they don't really want to give him a roster spot to be just a returner. They seem to be giving guys the oppurtunity to prove themselves capable of taking that job. I like Thigpen and imo they should keep him.

Clabo and Samuda had issues with switching and picking up stunts, which is what allows a guy like Sen'derrick Marks to get an easy sack. This isn't going to get any easier, either. Houston next week. They had better tighten up. Interesting how big of an effect John Jerry's loss has been to the line, had to usher in a new guard and lost a lot of depth at LT.

I like everything about Gray better than Thomas. IMO...Gray is much more instinctive as a runner, and runs with more power. Gray is also faster and has better balance. If Miller is the #1, IMO, Gray is a much better complement as the #2.
