The Pac 10 in Rodgers' time at Cal was not considered a good defensive conference overall.

Rodgers did have a 94 rating in his first season as a starter, but didn't have to start til his 4th season and when he did he had talent like Greg Jennings and Donald Driver to throw to. If Rodgers' primary weapons had been Bess and Hartline back then do you really think he'd have posted a 94 passer rating?

I think we should have drafted Matt Barkley this year and moved Tanny to WR. :shifty:

No, it made plenty of sense.
    A. It's imperative to ensure a strength remains a strength.
    B. We clearly needed more consistent pass rush ability opposite Wake.
    C. You can never have enough pass rushers.
    D. Misi will be a FA next year. Don't tell me you're one of those fans who advocate waiting till the last minute to address needs.
    E. Impact defenders, especially pass rushers, are worth their weight in gold and have a greater overall impact than left tackles in today's game. Jordan takes that a step further by being incredibly dynamic, and a defensive coordinator's options open up immensely with a dynamic athlete like Jordan on the field. It's all about disguise and creating pre-snap confusion for opposing QBs, and by swapping out for Wheeler & Ellerbe and drafting Jordan, our defense can do a markedly better job at it.
    F. Drafting a Lane Johnson would be nice but you don't beat Brady & Manning by trying to out duel them. You beat them by hitting them repeatedly and making the chess aspect of the game more difficult.

Ya and how about the guys that don't have that whole package and less experience, and get drafted in the 6th round...they NEVER pan out of course. Tom Brady's just a figment of our imagination. There are no 100% locks at the QB position. The closest to that I've seen in years is Andrew Luck, and how much higher was his rating than Tanny's? Hmm... Oh and let's not forget how long Rodgers sat sidelines before starting. You can't fairly compare their first STARTING year at QB, because Rodgers was spoon-fed for a while, and Tanny was thrown into the wolve's den. But I don't think a fair comparison in any form fits your agenda, so I'll just stop there.

I'd have to agree those were the most glaring issues. I believe it was an overall letdown because of the lack of motor we showed. They just didn't seem eager, motivated and hungry for the most part. A few flashes, but overall very sluggish. I think that directly correlates into those two issues.

I've never seen a worse team at recovering fumbles than miami. It's been this bad since the 80's. When you sack a qb and force a fumble, you have to recover. I bet the % of defensive fumble recoveries after a sack is prob at 75% and meanwhile miami hardly ever recovers them. I really can't find an explanation.

My 1 and only question sir is. Can u really kiss your own butt? If not shut up! Although I hear what your spitting, I do think your maybe a little premature and harsh/disrespectful! Wait until week 4/5 of the SEASON before reacting to a PRE-SEASON Game. Thank you, that is all...

    Here's my take:

Davis looks big and strong for a wr, can catch and take a hit. Bump is makes the squad easily and if Davis plays like he did last night he makes the team too.

Dallas Thomas is too soft and weak to play in nfl. You can cut him now if you like, he's sh*t.

Martin is a clone of Thomas just a little better. We need more left tackles on this team.

Jordan and shelby loomed awesome last night and #66 played fast as well. Spitler and trusnik can both go take a walk. I liked Wil Davis even with his pi kovak looks like a bruising safety, reminds me of lynch.

Miller is lightening fast and gray tho not fast looked real good last night. Daniel Thomas is a goner.

Is it only me or does Devin look better than moore?

You kidding? Just in case you're not, it is Donald Sutherland in the movie Kelly's Heroes. He played a tanker known as Oddball, because he was, well, odd.

Yah, just like there was no chance Sharriff Floyd would fall out of the top 10.
or that Mantei Teo would go in the first round.
or that Hopkins would be the 2nd reciever off the board

I'll give you it is likely Jordan wouldn't have been around, but "No Chance" ...the only thing I use that "No Chance" with is my horse finishing in the money.

Would you take Lane Johnson for Dion Jordan right now? I sure as hell would. Olivier Vernon was coming on..I'll take that downgrade from Jordan to Vernon to put Martin back at his right tackle position, take the franchise Left Beast in Johnson and give my offense the line needed for maximum potential. I bet Lamar Miller and Ryan Tannehill would also.

    First of all, wrong thread.

Has Lane played a down in the NFL yet?

Also, Te'o was selected in the 2nd round.

    Nice try though.

I think some negative vibe merchants forget we were missing Wallace, Hartline, Mathews and Binns who's gone for the season. Look at the pups who stood up and made plays. If it was regular season opener then those rooks wouldnt have seen daylight. But maybe im being too much of a realist.
Harsh to call Thomas "s**t". He was drafted as a Guard or did you not look up his career as a college football player? NFL.COM. Look up his position...sure it doesnt say Left Tackle. FACEPALM.COM. Dallas Thomas isnt on that site but you made it. Congrats.

I think we all can agree that the OLine needs work and we lack depth at LT. Dallas Thomas is a much better guard (I hope). The tackling also sucked. Nothing pisses me off more during a game than watching guys throw a shoulder into a ball carrier and not wrap up and the guy get extra yards.

All said though, except for the score, the Dallas fans should be the ones on the ledge or snipping at each other today. Anyone compared the stats?
    Them / Us:
    First downs - 15 to our 23
    Total yards - 266 to our 421
    Passing yards - 96 to our 310
    Punts - 7 to our 3
    Penalties - 9 to our 3
    Penalty yards - 67 to our 20

Yeah, the one that counts is the score, but still, we moved the ball on them and we scored with guys may not be wearing a uniform at all in a month that doesn't have a shipping company or fast food logo on it.

The game was sloppy and lost on two turnovers - a fumble and a pick 6 that should have been a catch for a first down. But then, the game was played with Bumphis and McNutt as our starting WR's. So, even with the 2 bad plays that set the Cowboys up for scores, and our atrocious Oline play, we still out performed the Cowboys.

I'm looking forward 3rd pre-season game by which time, we have decided who our best 5 are on the OLine and they are set and gelling, and the defense features DJordan and Wake and Grimes all starting together we start to reveal our true O and D.

Dallas Thomas was drafted as a tackle and a guard, but damn let's hope he can show value as a guard or improve A LOT at tackle because that performance last night was miserable. Will be watching him closely next few games for sure. Having said that again I must remember first preseason game...relax.

Dallas Thomas has no feet under him. Jon Martin is not much different. We need to live with Jon Martin this year and sign Brandon Moore ASAP. IMO Dallas Thomas is not going to be a good guard either, not at this level. The kid is horrible with his foot placement at guard and at Tackle. That's why they did the experiment last week with him at LG, it failed miserably. He failed even worse at LT and yeah yeah yeah he is a rookie big deal. Look at his footwork, its horrible and no, it cannot be corrected quickly. Even Clabo on the Right does not give me much confidence. On the last play our starting offense ran it was supposed to be a screen pass and Clabo got beaten like a rug, that's why Tannehill threw the ball away and no, Clabo is NOT a rookie. We have two legitimate offensive lineman on this team that could play on most any team in the NFL Pouncey and Incognito. the rest are MEH, IMO.

IMO Dallas Thomas is going to be tossed like a cheap salad at any position he plays. We drafted another career backup it seems.

Agreed. One pre-season game and I immediately know whether or not a rookie is going to be a hall of famer or career backup. Clearly, Dallas Thomas is the latter. If he wasn't so cheap, he would be cut.

    Left Tackle is ...

As for the uniforms. I like them. But everytime I take a quick look I keep seeing Jacksonville Jaguars (yes I know we don't have the black trim they do but it's what we resemble now).

I didn't get to see the game. This SEAL site didn't have AFN from from everything I've read, it seems to me Left Tackle has to be priority number one. If Tannehill's blind side isn't covered by someone capable of protecting him, chemistry with his receivers won't matter as he'll have no time to set and throw the ball...let alone get stripped of the ball and lose it on turnovers.

He played both guard and tackle in college but even if he was a guard, he looks weak and played weak period. Let's hope we don't need to play him. And for all the posters saying this will be cogs last year in Miami, think again. No way we let him walk while we have holes at Left tackle and right guard.
