I should have posted this a few months ago. I apologize that I didn't as they just had a huge sale.

Anyway, (typing on my phone) anyone else following this? It's a pet project space sim from Chris Roberts (Wing Commander). Kick starter blew the initial $2 mil goal out of the water, they're currently at about 11 million. Biggest crowd funded game ever. It's a PC space sim. They just changed their web page...up until last Thursday if you donated you got a copy of the game and an in-game ship with some goodies (free lifetime insurance). Some of the ships are crazy expensive (people dropping thousands on this game), but most are reasonable.

It won't be pay to win, or pay to play. All of the ships will be available in-game to purchase with in-game earned credits. Paying for a ship just lets you skip the considerable grind it would take to get some of these ships. I reserved a 520R.

Anyone else going to hop on board with this?

My friends just got me hooked on this after spending a combined $350+. I just bought the $80 Arbiter package. Usually I am not into space sims...but this is looking like the Space Sim of all time that eats all the other little space sims.

They convinced me to plunk down for a 350R :P

My brother got a Connie. A bigger ship would be fun, but I don't play enough or have enough friends to warrant that kinds of coin.

Ok I upgraded to Rear Admiral. I'm surprised this one hasn't gotten more notice around here. A true AAA PC game completely devoid of publishers and investor control. From the guy who brought us Wing Commander and Freelancer. A true PC game that will push the hardware.

I might add a Connie at some point. Issue is my brother already owns one, and I don't think I'll play enough to support it and its crew, so I'm leaning towards just sticking to my 350R and making it a stealth ship :)

Am looking at making melting for a badass hornet military varian if they make one...or just adding one outright...just kind of a huge fan of the 350R though. I'll need fast, biggest question is armor and power management

I plan to do some deep space truckin' with The Convoy so the Connie gives me a lot of cargo space + can hold it's own in a fight.

Yeah, it really is an attractive ship. Bit of an investment for me at this point, but I'd like to snag one. I'm also curious as to what Origin puts out in that class.

Looking forward to this game. I backed it the month the project launched. I'm only comfortable with putting in $50 for now. I'm wary of dropping any more than that.

Yah right now it's just a placeholder. I don't want anything that isn't a digital package (really I've had enough with physical package litter). So I'll upgrade to a variant later (possibly a merchant one....or if they do a LX version) and try to get a backup ship digital style cheaper. So digital package M50 maybe with variant connie only.

For the rest of the folk out there. Star Citizen is a $21 million budget AAA brought to you by Chris Roberts of Wing Commander/Freelancer fame after a 10 year hiatus making movies (The Punisher, The Jacket, Lord of War). The game features NO publisher and NO investor influence. It is by far the big record holder for a crowd sourced game.

It will be a single player game (Squadron 42), A persistent world (Star Citizen) and also allow you to rent out your own servers to host your own modded versions of the persistent world.

This looks like it could be fun. So no monthly fee? And it's kind of like a reservation process?

No monthly fees. The game is in development right now, but the developers are allowing you to pre-order the game and buy several in game items in advance through their crowdfunding campaign. Several milestones have been reached already and have expanded the game beyond it's original scope.

To add to that, they're adamant about this NOT being a pay to win/play game. They're selling ships up front as a fundraiser, but EVERYTHING that you can buy (save for a few non-stat affecting skins) will be available to obtain in-game through gameplay or credits.

That's huge to me. I believe they I intend to maintain some sort of a "store" in the future where you can buy stuff like this, but it's a way for them to raise money, and it's a way for guys like me who don't have the time to grind out for 10's or hours on end to get a shiny new space ship.

Watching that trailer definitely reminded me of the Wing Commander III that I used to play on the Panasonic 3DO. What a great game that was for it's generation. Luke Skywalker kicked *** in it and so did Biff Tanner.

No monthly fee. Just the game box cost which is expected to be $60. By donating now you get access to the alpha and beta's. In a couple weeks they release the hanger where you can walk around and check out the ships you bought (can't fly yet). By the end of the year the Dogfighting client will be released to start testing.

Cheapest package to get into alpha/beta and the release client is the Digital Scout package at $30 which is half the release cost.

These guys truly believe in their game. Since there is no publisher there has been unprecedented access to them. They constantly answer questions, run a weekly Youtube tv show called Wingman's hanger.

Oh yah and if you want to run things in all it's glory....your going to need a nice PC. They are making no bones about pushing the graphics and the CryEngine3.

Star Citizen hit $20 million in crowd funding today.

Making it the first true AAA PC game funded entirely by the fans.

It's just about to reach 23 million. Should make it by the end of the day and when it does Star Citizen will be fully funded (and the first AAA game funded purely through crowd funding), exciting. I haven't been this flustered over a game in a while.

Decided to trade in my current packages and work towards launch. Which means a Starfarer when they are available again for deep space truckin' and when I'm not doing that....I'm going to run economic missions with my new Hornet Ghost.

    Work towards launch?

I picks up short hornet to go with my 250R. Dogfighting module is due out en of this year, and I thought it might be advantageous to pick up a ship that could compete a bit better in that arena. Also lets me make the 350R a dedicated explorer and lean towards speed and stealth. I'm done with ship now. I may melt both in the future for a larger ship, but I don't have a ton of friends online, so meh.

I also think it's dubious to plan on them having the dogfighting module ready in December. I'm planning on it being delayed. They've made strides, but there's a ton of stuff that still doesn't work right in the hangars (missile racks mount vertically on my 350R) at this point. I think it'll take 3+ months to get it to where it needs to be...but hope I'm wrong.

The team working on the hanger isn't the same as the team working on the dogfighting module. The devs have casually mentioned fighting between them since around May. What the big rush is now is getting the original pledge ships done with their variants ready to go (aurora, 300 series, hornet, freelancer, Connie). They are 3/5th's of the way there.

350R can be either stealth or speed but you can't do both. It requires part swapping. For example that Ghost has specialized armor to reduce signature, a small shield generator, only a level 3 power plant designed to cut emissions etc. If you compare the parts on the Ghost to the 350R ship specs...you'll see right away it doesn't have the parts for it. 350R is built for pure speed. Both will have it's roles. You'll be hit and running with your 350R with it's speed keeping you out of danger. My Ghost will be more sneaky...working asteroid fields etc and pulling off sneak attacks (think Scar in Battlestar Galactica) using the blatant use of lens flares to my advantage ;p

For the dogfighting module I will outfit the ghost with the top turret instead of cargo. Once the Universe comes out I willl swap in the cargo hold. My main goal with the Ghost is to run economic/factory missions. I have 3 real life friends who will be playing so on Friday/Saturday's we will be with the association The Convoy running deep space runs for mining/salvaging/fuel with a Starfarer, Retaliator, 2 Connie's. And we have a bunch of hornets/gladiators to run as our 2 NPC wingmen (each).

Yah it's looking that way. Chris Roberts is really ramping up the development team. This is all early stuff to, but he's letting us have sneak peeks of various pieces along the way.

Dogfighting module was delayed. ETA end of March. They delayed it to stream inked production. The initially planned on using cryengines built-in multi-player, but ended up choosing to incorporate the final back-end client system that they'll use when the game eventually goes live. Good choice IMO. Short delay that will better allow them to test the final product earlier on in development.

Delay also let them start to incorporate Cryengine PBR. The ships Amanda environments are all getting updated and they're looking SICK.

They also released the organization (clan) system. Anyone want to get together? Mine is BIG. I'm taking exams so I'll be limited in early DFM , but I'm jacked about thus game. I have a 350R ( less excited about it these days, but it was my game attached to it with alpha and beta access), a Super Hornet (bought it for dogfighting module, half the reason I want this game), and Banu Merchantman (bought it to support the artist, friend of a friend and it looks sick).

Haven't updated in a while. $38.5 million and counting. I joined The Convoy. A union of long haul space truckers with over 230 members (more to come when multi orgs start).

I'm running a Ghost package and a Starfarer.

Anyone confused about Star Citizen. The following video does a good job explaining.

Dogfighting module landed last night. It was delayed this past week, but it's rolling.

Right now it's limited to drones, but they'll be Rollin. Multiplayer out soon. You get one of 3 ships, but they'll roll variants out for that as well. It's only an Alpha so in sure there will be some bumps.

Hands down one of the prettiest games out there. It's cry engine and the ships are incredibly detailed. Maybe too much so, but my 3 year old rig (i7-980x, 20 gigs of ram and a ****ty graphics card) are running it fine so far on medium settings.

I jus got to dabble shortly, but the ship controls are great. Very responsive, you can cut engines and drift, rotate in flight, etc.

Keep this on your radar if you haver already.
