Just heard on NFLN that the Phins decided not to offer him a contract. They're out.

Especially with a young QB and unproven players at RB.

Joe Philbin... " I want a deal done by the end of the week" or ______________

Fill in the blanks, that's our coach talking, he went on the record, I'm sure he isn't blowing smoke up anyone's ***, when he's fed up, you outta here, or you ain't comin here.

There reasons why he said what he did, he believes in something..

Dissapointing I really feel like he could help us, wouldn't mind at all giving him a 2 year deal

I'm hoping there's more to this than meets the eye. At the end of the day, regardless of age, Leach is an upgrade over what we have now. As some of you pointed out, the RB group is young and could probably use some guidance. Hopefully this thing still gets done and this is just a tactic to get his agent to give in to a one year deal or something...

I'm still interested to see how this plays out. I mean, I'm sure there's going to be some signings after final cuts to round out the roster before week 1. If Miami's run blocking struggles during the preseason and Leach is still un-signed, maybe they work something out then.

I still have my eye on the Chris Pressley vs. John Conner battle in Cincinnati.

Well, all eyes on J Lane now, if he plays poorly, then the Dolphins Media needs to hit up Ireland about why they did not sign him..who am I kidding, Ireland never does live interviews with the whole media, he'll go on the Finsiders otherwise he is never held accountable.

No reason to make an offer b/c I don't think Leach wants to go through training camp. Most likely he wants to sign after camp but before the season begins so that his contract is still guaranteed for the season.

I would feel much better if we signed him, plus we have a ton of cap space.

Wish we would sign him. As the roster is now, I think our run game's going to be mediocre. Gotta jump on these chances to help Tannehill with some balance on offense (he ain't Aaron Rodgers...yet).

Now they're reporting that the Phins won't offer him a contract BEFORE training camp. They said that they want to evaluate who they now have, but if he's still available later on, they may consider it at that point.,,,when the price may go down. :wink2:

I heard the news on NFL network but somehow I have a feeling this isn't over. They also said "unless he's still not signed by another team" or something like that. To me it sounds like we are calling his agents bluff

The Ravens reiterated that the offer they made to Vonta Leach prior to releasing him still stands if he wants it. They offered $2 million in base salary and $1 million in incentives on a one year deal.

With Miami telling him they want to go to camp with what they have, I'll put the odds at 80/20 he goes back to Baltimore and accepts their offer.

I would seriously doubt the Fins would make an offer competitive with Baltimore. Can't see Ireland doing that for a FB - even though, I think he'd be a very significant signing for the running game (and therefore enhancing the passing game) and for pass protection.

I guess Miami is sure he doesnt want to go through with camp so dont feel the need to offer him a contract yet... Might as well see what they have if they are sure he wont sign with anyone before camp is over.

Philbin.." Javorski lane...aka" butterball...has more snap than any fullback we ever had in Green Bay, and he catches better than anyone in Green Bay including Kuhn..

Ireland..#41 does something everyday that makes you take notice.

    Philbin..." He's a football player"

There's really nothing that says Coach said it, other than the title of Armansofullof****'s article and a blurb credited to a "source".

I think this is less about Jorvorskie Lane and more about Evan Rodriguez. I think they like him a lot, that they are willing to overlook personality issues beyond what seems like their normal tolerance, and are willing to go into a holding pattern on Leach speaks highly of him.

This. They could very well still sign him if he's on the market. I mean, it's not really that much different than signing some guy after the last preseason game to your roster prior to week 1. Miami did that last year with a few guys. Off the top of my head I remember Troy Nolan and Anthony Armstrong, and I think there were others.

And it would also imply that they feel that if Lane/Rodriquez didn't work out they could plug another FB in late despite the concerns here about missing TC.

One conversation between the two on hard knocks...

Also very interesting to look back, Philbin wanted no part of gates after the I guy displayed what kind of guy he was, basically told Ireland to his face after Ireland told him he's got a special trait and that he doesn't want to get rid of him just yet, Philbins says to him, " he might have one trait, but were trying to figure out of the guy is a football player"....lol, cut two weeks later.

Reminded me of how Ireland lobbied for Les brown, ( " theres not a lot of guys walking the street with his skillset")..2 evaluations and support for two guys that were not good players..

Yeah, so? It cost nothing to give Les a shot. As far as Gates goes, he was what a 4th rd pick with 4.3 speed?
    Both well worth the gamble.

Considering the Dolphins don't have an offer on the table I'd say his options likely include re-signing with the Ravens or jumping to the Giants or Texans.

IMO Leach doesn't want to go through training camp. I'm pretty sure the Ravens are OK with that, not so sure about the Dolphins.
