I think that was Rocky Balboa nemesis Carl Weathers only lead role. I think it was also the first leading female role for Sharon Stone. BTW, that 'Big Ern' GIF on your sig is awesome! I want a bowling ball with a rose in it some day.

Good black comedy and based on a true story. Not your typical Jack Black character either.

Pacific Rim is not Transformers, at all. Other than they both have giant robots. One of the main differences is that Transformers are aliens with their own personalities.

Pacific Rim is Godzilla/Cloverfield mixed with Ultraman/Voltron/Power Rangers.

If that sounds stupid to you, then you will not like it. If that sounds awesome to you, you will love it.

The thing I like most about Pacific Rim is that it doesn't insult my intelligence like Michael Bay does in Transformers.

Like Michael Bay does in just about everything.

Is it well-written or just an action movie you watch for the cgi? Idk if I can sit through 2hrs of Charlie Hunam.

It is pretty much an action movie you watch for cgi. The story isn't totally terrible, however if it wasn't for the cgi, it wouldn't be worth watching.

I watched Transamerica tonight. Felicity Huffman (William H. Macy's wife, he produced and co-wrote the movie) did a great job acting like a transgender guy, I wasn't sure if it was a guy or a girl playing the part through most of the movie. One of those 'road trip bonding movies' like "Little Miss Sunshine" or "Rain Man." They did a good job with it.

Saw Pacific Rim. Much better than Transformers imo - better story and much better CGI and visuals. Very visually impressive, a level above other movies. Has the capacity to make you just go WOW in ways that a movie like Avatar or Jurassic Park when it first came out did. If you are thinking of skipping it as a movie trying to ride the tails of a dying Transformers for a cash grab, you will be missing out. Blows it out of the water.

Eh. Just got out of Pacific Rim. Visuals were stunning. Acting and dialogue was very cheesy and not well done IMO. It's worth a watch. But if I had to do it over again I wouldn't of spent the $30 to see it in the movies 3D

Excellent, IMO. Even though it acts as a sequel of sorts to X-Men: The Last Stand, it doesn't beat the fact into you.

The post-credits scene is great! Perfect bridge between this movie and Days of Future Past. :)

Just watched this disturbing yet gripping gem of a psychological horror/thriller/drama on Netflix called Chained starring Vincent D'Onofrio (Leonard/Private Pyle from Full Metal Jacket) who gives a masterful performance of a cab driving, psychologically damaged, serial killer who imprisons the young son of a woman he murders and forces him to become his protege, all while developing a soft spot for him.

I was actually struck by how, despite a similar concept, the stories are played MUCH differently. "Hunger Games" is more of an indictment of the media's role in society; "Battle Royale" is about the conflict between generations. As crazy as the BATTLE ROYALE concept is, they do a great job of selling it and actually make you understand the rationalization of a society that looks to control a juvenile population that's out of control. I was very happy to see that both movies stand well on their own.

    Watched 2 movies this weekend:
-Hansel and Gretel - Witch Hunters: Damn that was a terrible movie. Gemma's hotness is wasted in that movie. Renner has no standards
-Jack the Giant Slayer: a little cheesy, but still very enjoyable to watch with my family because it was done in storybook style.

The trailers and even the opening credits made me hope for broad, anachronistic fun along the lines of XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS. But the rest of the movie didn't have an ounce of fun or humor. It was just loud and uncreative.
